I play the course a lot but will provide a balanced review. Overall, the course is fun to play and I like it. Most of the folks working there are friendly and it has a good vibe. First, the course itself. The course has many sloped greens and when they are fast the course plays difficult. Holes #2, #6, #8, #10 all have greens that you will three (or four) putt if you aren't on the right section of the green. Tee to green, the first few holes can be difficult. #2 requires a precise tee shot between OB and a hazard. #4 another tough driving hole between OB left and hazard right. #5 is another tough driving hold with a hazard on both sides. You have to drive the ball straight through the first 6 holes, then it opens up a bit. The course is scoreable but you have to place the ball both off the tee and into the greens. If you don't there are doubles and triples out there.
Ok now on the overall facility itself. It really is overpriced at almost $100 on a weekend. They get that because of the location but it's not a $100 course in my opinion. The bunkers were in terrible shape most of last year and really need to be completely redone. The design is fun but it is a short golf course because it is sandwiched between I-95 and 202. They did what they could with the land they had but everything is jammed into limited acreage. Play can be slow, especially on the weekends, and management really doesn't, in my opinion, do enough to enforce a 4-4:25 min round. Lastly, Troon manages the course and there is a laser focus on maximizing profit. Everything is done with a focus on maximizing profit and I understand it is a public golf course but some of the stuff just seems like a little too much. Last fall they had 2 to 3 outings a week where the course would be closed practically all day and normally 1 of those days was on a weekend. They didn't aerate the greens until late October because they didn't want to interfere with all the outings so the greens had no time to heal before the end of the growing season. They will add a 5 minute tee time on a weekend morning to squeeze in an extra group and earn an extra $400. Overall, I like playing there and I don't blame the folks working there but I think some of the profit maximization is a bit aggressive at time.
We drove more than hour to play the course. Course was nice - aeration made the green a bit tougher, though.
Unfortunately, we were behind few groups of players who were part of bachelor party and needless to say - not pleasant. Extremely slow, horsing around, and drunk.
We had terrible impression of the club and the course - until Kimber stepped in.

Played on Friday Nov 14th, greens were horrible, punched way to late in the season, going to be bad all winter until growth starts. Sad. Also 79$ for sandy bumps
The Joan Wilbank Memorial Golf outing was held on Saturday, September 6th. This was our 10th consecutive year ar Rock Manor. The Communication between Kimber and our committee was excellent. Kimber kept us up to date with all time line items and dates for completion. Their staff was very friendly and assisted with any of our needs. The course was in overall pretty good shape, being early September. The tee boxes appeared to be under repair as they were all brown with a lot of weeds. The greens were fast with pin placement in difficult positions.
Course was in great condition. Staff was super friendly from the get go. Some hole locations were a bit tricky but kept the round interesting. Will definitely be back!!!! Highly recommend
Management of the course is trying to make this course something it is not. They make the greens lightning fast and put every pin on a shelf and think that justifies charging $98/round on a weekend. Meanwhile the tee boxes are all in awful shape, mostly dirt with no grass to be found and many large dead spots in the fairway. Use some of the budget on the rest of the course and not just the greens. Recommend avoiding.
Pretty disappointed after playing here. Tee boxes were below average and the greens were roughed up pretty bad. Doesn’t seem like they take care of the course. The best part were the new carts they have.
We hosted a small company outing here the week of July 7th and we can't recommend this course and it's staff more! They were extremely organized and covered every last detail of the event helping to make our outing as care-free as possible. The course was in great condition overall and is always a fun track to play as well as a very easy drive from downtown Philadelphia. We'll definitely be returning for future outings at Rock Manor!
Greens have mud spots all over from previous hole locations. Not to mention that they're covered in pitch marks.
Driving range is as much sand as it is grass. If you're hitting off the mats it's just as bad - most are so worn down they're barely holding onto their green color. It's a fine course but very disappointing for the price.
Course is in pretty bad shape in the summer. They also have a deal for kids to play for $5. Cool in an idea to get kids into golf. But absolutely horrible for players that pay $60+ to watch tee boxes get backed up for 3 groups, and zero etiquette for pace.
Normally one of my favorite local public courses to play. The conditions today were less than ideal. Most tee boxes were spotty. Some fairways and fringe areas were burnt. For the most part the greens were good and fast. Hopefully the conditions improve in the fall.
Attended a charity golf outing and was very impressed with the staff and service our foursome received. From a nice welcome and great advice on some of the challenging holes, to the food and beverage staff. Very professional and attentive. The course is a good value and fun to play. Will definitely return soon.
Haven't played the course this year but looks like in great shape. Went to hit some balls at the range today, $19 for a jumbo bucket is way too high. They don't even have water or anything there like they used to...

Friendly staff. Course was in decent shape. Greens rolled fast and true. Pace of play was horrible. Tuesday morning and it was almost a 5 hr round. At times there were 2 groups backed up on a tee. Ranger was apologetic but they really need to keep ppl on pace or spread out the times. $75 for greens fee for a weeday is a bit overpriced. I'd say comparable to $55 courses in the SE philly area. If you play often their rock card deal is great.
This place somehow gets away with charging $80+ when being so mediocre. Pace of play is bad. Greens always covered in pitch marks. Carts are always dying. Staff is not nice. I do not understand why people spend the money to play here…
It's no wonder why this place has been voted the best public golf course in Delaware. This course is an absolute steal for the price you pay. It has a great, challenging lay out. Yet if you strike the ball well you can really hit a low round. Highly recommend playing this course if you are in the area. Pace of play is fast and mornings are usually wide open for grabbing a tee time.
Was very excited to play here with a couple buddies from work. When we all arrived we were greeted by probably the worst starter I have ever experienced. Incredibly condescending and rude little man. I don’t know why you would work in a service industry then talk down to people who pay a good amount of money to be on your course. Other than him needing to work elsewhere the course itself is beautiful and the rest of the staff were awesome. Fix the attitude problem with the initial point of contact and this place could be really good.
Played an event and had an incredible experience from Mike, the Outside staff rep, to Carrie who managed the event for us. Professional start to finish. I am a member of private club in FL and I would dare say the course has more character then many private clubs I know, especially on the back 9. While not a long course the undulations and dog legs kept it interesting and challenging. If you have the chance it is a must play!
Rock Manor may be the best Public course in the Wilmington area. Staff is friendly, practice areas are great and always being improved and the course is normally in immaculate shape. The grounds crew at Rock Manor keeps the greens in wonderful playing condition which is what really sets it apart from other area courses. Layout is fun and interesting; with a good amount of variation from hole to hole. Would recommend to anyone looking for a high quality round of golf at a relatively friendly price.
Rarely give anything 5 stars but have to give this place the credit it deserves. Great staff that run a tight ship. Course in very good condition, especially considering the amount of play it gets. I've heard bad things about pace of play but I didn't experience any issues on that front. But mostly, it's a really fun course to play. Not sure I've seen a course design quite like it.
Very challenging course, well taken care of, however, it appears that golf etiquette has gone out of style. Replacing divots, repairing ball marks and spike marks were virtually non-existent…
Played early on a Sunday morning (6:20) no problem with pace of play, played in 3 hours 40 minutes. Course was in great shape, were told by the starter that greens were hard and fast and he wasn’t lying. If the people who have complained about the speeds of the green heeded that warning they would have adjusted their game. Course is not overly challenging (somewhat tight) but if you keep your drives in play there are plenty of scoring opportunities out there. For $72 I’ll make the 50 minute drive to play this again. Well done
