Awesone store with a huge selection of clothing. Good prices. When you walk in it looks and smells really clean. All the staff were nice, friendly, and smiling. The donations drop off is easy to get to!
Great place to find cheap but nice cheap clothes, kitchen supplies and decent art. They also have furniture. Got everything pictured below for under $150. Also on Wednesday's the whole store is discounted.
Please consider stopping absolutely BLASTING religious music at a volume that bleeds through even if you wear headphones. I love and uphold our Lord but this music is simply bad… and way too loud!!! You guys used to play lite rock & adult contemporary … easy crowd pleasers at a normal volume for public … what was wrong with that? Your employees and selection are lovely, but the atmosphere has become something one has to brave rather than enjoy. I hope you guys return to being a store for everyone. I will update this review when this horrible aspect of the customer experience is fixed.
Always helpful people to take your item donations. However to go into the store to check out items you may want to buy, is a turn off when absolutely nothing is merchandised by size. Instead, by color. Are you to have to go thru 30ft of black dresses to find your size? Or shoes? Etc. No. Drive away and go to goodwill.
Insane donation policies. Website says they accept beds and bed frames. Showed up with a disassembled bed frame in my car. They told me to take it home, reassemble it, and call for a donation. It doesn’t fit out my door assembled. Wild. I would have saved a trip, but they don’t answer the phone.
I'd give it zero stars if I could I had a scheduled pickup date for items. They came to view it and said we will see what happens. Never called back had to call them to schedule a date to pick up. The day of the pickup date they called me 6 am for some odd reason to confirm the date for pickup when they should have called the day before. When they finally arrived the same driver from the first time told me he could not take the items, he was now telling me it was not In an accessible space. Also saying last time he told me that I needed to move items and make room which he did not say. It's funny because he said he told the person from the viewing this and I was the same person the first time and he told me no such thing. Don't waste your time with them its a good cause but only if good people are working there very disappointing.
When I first arrived there were loads of clothing, and loads of people. The lines were long and the prices were high. Until I found out that It was half off on everything. It was a holiday and the only reason I shopped was because there It was half off otherwise I would have walked out. I have been to many salvation army's, but I have never seen the pricing this high before, it was baffling. They do have lots of name brand, but a lot of the clothing is torn, stained, or old. Yet, it is still priced high. It's unfortunate, and they could seriously consider repricing to bring in more sales. This is not helpful for those in need nor those shopping.
Shoes 13-20$ mostly! same as ross but used.(can find more expensive and cheaper) Kids 2-8$ but mainly 3-5 per item walmart 2-10 but new ross 2-15 depending on brand and sets. You can find more expensive at the store but you get new for cheep! Dresses/skirts I believe the skits are a good price usually 6.99 and dresses usually 8-15 you can get new for a few more dollars but you are saving more here! Shirts are from 2.99 to 6.99 woman and men but men are usually cheaper! Accessories I've seen some items that are more expensive then brand new so I believe it would be very difficult to buy with a good price! FURNITURE! This I don't recommend if your looking to save they have some nice pieces but I would say they cost a couple hundred but used. I've shopped here for years because I send clothing to my country, and because it's more economic then to buy new, but I think I'll be shopping at store with new item if the prices almost have no difference! This is a post for people who need cheaper options kids grow fast and clothes get worn out somtimes it's hard to feed everyone, pay rent, and get them clothes constantly. But if you just like to buy the clothing to find fashionable items I think you can find some cool things!
I had a very poor experience with the manager, if I had to describe him. He’s an older guy with glasses, Indian. Was wearing a suit. He stated he is the store manager. His customer service was extremely unprofessional. He spoke to customers disrespectfully, walked around yelling, and slammed items in a hostile manner. When I pointed out that his tone and attitude were inappropriate as we asked a question, he responded sarcastically by saying, “Thanks for the compliment.” This behavior was unacceptable and made the environment uncomfortable.
We brought an antique table with two matching chairs to donate. The furniture was not new, but in good condition. While unloading, the employee pointed out a scratch on the tabletop and refused the donation, saying they don’t do touch-ups. What was especially confusing is that when we looked around the store afterwards, right at the entrance there were chairs and even a refrigerator with visible dents and far worse damage than our table. We went out of our way to bring good-quality furniture, so this felt inconsistent and disappointing. I will definitely not make the effort to bring items here again in the future.
I took this load from Baltimore,MD then i call store Mike told me you can come. That's fine we're unloaded side then I told him I'll be there at 5:30 PM, he said that's fine after I arrive 5:30. They said sorry , we cannot unloaded side came back tomorrow i spoke to supervisor no respect,me never come back agen here.Truck driver, make sure before you come in here.The place is very tight
I like this store, lately the things in the store haven’t been as good as they once used to be, however I gave four stars because the man at the register kept trying to ask me if I wanted to round up after I already said “no”, i understand it’s apart of their job to ask to roundup as I used to once work at a thrift store too but you should teach your employees to not try to pressure people into rounding up after they already said no, it makes people uncomfortable.
I’m honestly disappointed in this Salvation Army Store. Prices have shot up to unreasonable levels—$49 for a no-name pleather made in China jacket and $99 for a basic vase? This is a donation-based store meant to support the community, yet the pricing feels completely out of touch. They don’t pay for their stock, and these markups make no sense. I will no longer bring my donations here—there are plenty of other organizations that stay true to their mission. What is going on?
It's too expensive. It's only $1 cheaper than a brand new product. Some items are even being sold for $4.99 when the original price was $1.25. They're taking advantage of consumers who are trying to save money by using donated items. The staff are generally unfriendly too. I even wonder if it's because I'm Asian.
I haven't shopped here but I have made several donations. The employees at the drive up are ALWAYS so friendly and helpful, even in the cold and/or rain.
Love the back room with all the home items. Some of the prices are high. Really need to hunt for the bargins. The clothes are arranged by type and color which makes it hard to find the size you are looking for. You would need to spend all day searching.
Update - 9/25 - 25% still on Wednesdays. BUT not on furniture necessarily - furniture discounts will vary by day. check website. I think new furniture - not on sake on Wednesdays.
Superb Salvation Army. I travel the US. All of these stores have different sale days and amounts. Not universal (comment for the woman angry it wasn’t 50% - note signs clearly state 25%) I shop twice a month. Staff is amazing - kind - helpful - Wednesdays the place is typically packed so expect a little bit of a busy atmosphere. They are open late - fun to wind down a day to just look. Prices have creeped up but I have to accept that. Do NOT argue prices or switch tags. Just don’t. I’ve found outstanding - I mean outstanding - furniture and housewares. They seem to get truckloads of stuff so good stuff comes in and out fast. Still - takes a good eye.
This THRIFT store seems to be under the impression that they're a consignment shop. I stopped by here yesterday, on a Wednesday, for the first and probably last time. I specify Wednesday because up until yesterday, I was under the impression that every Wednesday, Salvation Army stores have 50% off sales on clothing, shoes and accessories. The 2 locations I've been to in Waldorf and Hyattsville honor these weekly 50% off Wednesday sales. I spent 20 years shopping at the Salvation Army in Springfield MA and this sale was honored, as well as multiple other locations I've visited in the past. Not this store. After spending more than 1.5 hours carefully combing through each section and clothing rack, I approached the register with 4 items, expecting my total to be $11+ tax. The cashier rings me up and says $18. I ask about the price and the weekly sale, and he's tells me the Wednesday sale is for 25% off not 50%, which his manager confirmed (whom I didn't ask to speak to but asked anyway once he came over). The manager said "We never have 50% off sales unless it's a holiday or a special very rare sale". To say that I was completely gobsmacked would be an understatement. I've NEVER visited a Salvation army store that "never" offers 50% off. Even if it's not a Wednesday, they always have a 50% off colored tag of the week.......Not this location. To top it off, the parking at this store is extremely limited and cramped and is NOT convenient to get into and out of. I will say one thing about this store that is positive, for those of you who don't mind the year round 25% sales...The store is extremely well organized in terms of the clothing racks being sorted by the color of the garments. This made it much easier to shop. But the rest of my experience was trash, and I most definitely WON'T be coming back to this scammy location.
Not a great experience. We requested a pick up day for some donations (toy, clothes and a sofa). The day of we were told that the pickup truck would arrive within an hour, we then received another phone saying they would arrive within a few minutes. They arrived 45 minutes later. When they did, they looked at our sofa and rejected it. The sofa had some scratches so it wasn’t considered good enough for donation. This wouldn’t have mattered so much had we known beforehand that our furniture would not be accepted. There’s got to be a better system where furniture is pre-screened before scheduling a pick up. It ended up being really frustrating and stressful as we had to reschedule a lot of our day only to be left waiting and then met with disappointment. The rest of our donations were accepted. In hindsight, had we known our sofa would not be considered good enough, we would have dropped off our other goods at our own time rather than going through the entire pick up process.
A word of advice, if you plan on doing a furniture pick up, make sure it looks brand new. Otherwise it will be rejected.
Do not recommend donating furniture. Scheduled for the afternoon, they showed banging on door before 8am, then they refused to take anything despite it being in very good condition (as proof I had a dozen requests for furniture on FB marketplace in under hour). 2nd time dealt with this and it’s not worth it. I honestly think the pickup people are lazy and try to get away with less work.
I came here to drop off donations in a bad mood, fully expecting it to get worse after seeing other people’s reviews on what their donation experience was like. When I pulled in however, I was greeted by three male workers with the biggest smiles on their faces. They helped me remove my donations from the car and were extraordinarily kind in the process. Their happy energy was contagious, and I left that experience in significantly higher spirits. I checked out the inside of the store afterwards and can also confirm that this store has it all. I don’t know who those workers are, but I hope they know how great they are!
Took a chance on finding some hidden gems in the furniture section. They have a whole room dedicated to furniture! I found an almost new couch, sofa table and two end tables, and pillows, all for 300 bucks!! You’ll never beat this deal! The gentleman working there also gave me a persons name to transport the furniture to my home. It was a perfect day!
You can find some good stuff here, and the new furniture area is nice. The store is often well-organized, and prices are generally pretty good. However, near the end of 2022 I went shopping here and left with a poor impression of the staff. Two were not knowledgeable on common-knowledge items, and at the register, one said they don't take Apple Pay even though the reader clearly said "insert, swipe, or tap card" and was showing the NFC symbol.
In a previous review left on another account, Salvation Army replied saying they were actively transitioning. I'm guessing it was already complete at this store even back then.
It's mind boggling how a thrift store that gets used items for free can charge as much as, or sometimes more than regular online and brick & morter retail. Many items are in unacceptable condition with huge pieces missing, dirty, and basically cheap broken junk (not even nice vintage) from the dollar store with price tags as high as $8 to $10. Fast fashion items that are worn out with stains and pilling for upwards of $20, and probably more than they originally cost when purchased new. There are even half used cheap candles and empty cardboard boxes with high price tags on them. Not sure how to explain the rationale behind this other than greed or lack of awareness. I hope that who ever is in charge of processing donations takes the initiative to charge more reasonable prices that are suitable for used items.
Was visiting the nearby Green Spring Gardens when I decided to visit this location. Use to come here a lot with my Mom. She was always looking for old dishes and cookware while I was also looking books. And I found two I wanted and they were cheap. Only wish they had more of a selection.
