I wanted to make a comment about the Sinatra Christmas show that was held on Dec. 18th in the Gem theater. I found it a little funny that the stage was so bland and no decorations (Christmas or otherwise) nothing like the pictures that were sent out advertising the event. Also, appeared to be somewhat unorganized and felt the ticket prices were "over-priced" considering the talent of the show. As a whole, I felt the musicians were good but way to many "musical interludes" and the singer although good definitely did not have a Sinatra type voice. The Emcee was also very "different" and tried to make the event like it was a dance event or a sing along. I will say that The Gem Theater is certainly attractive and the seating was comfortable. I know they tried their best but just did not seem very "polished" and had this been @ the Green Lady Lounge or similar type place would not have thought a thing about it. All in all if this is the standard of the Gem Theater I will not be returning.
Theater is being remodeled and the street in front is being rebuilt. I believe it is for the soccer coming this summer. Seating was very nice. We were seeing our granddaughter performance with the Junior High Regional Jazz Band. A day of beautiful Jazz from all the members of the Regional Jazz Bands.
Love it! It's the new home for KCWC performances; we love partnering with them. Such a gorgeous theatre, friendly & welcoming staff, great acoustics, top notch crew. Even during the street construction & having to enter through the side door, our crowds show up to enjoy the music & support the chorus. It'll be wonderful when the street is done.
I really liked the theater itself. I saw Purple Kiss on 10/20. I wished the construction wasn’t ongoing for their final tour, but it didn’t seem to pose much of a challenge for fans and employees.
Cute, small theater with some amazing history in the heart of the 18th and Vine district. I saw a smaller (but sold out) kpop concert and it was great! Got a little lost trying to find a bathroom and the parking situation is a little dubious. But the theatre is great.
It was a family affair at the Gem for the Kwanzaa celebration. Each night was different and filled with fun. On the first night in particular, the kids were involved in the activities. My daughter Penelope made her way to the stage and danced and sang with the other kids. Capturing moments like this will continue to be a blessing to us and hopefully encourage others to attend for years to come.
Not a big fan of thespian events, plays or the like. I listen to music but never thought to go to a concert. My wife loves all of those things. So I decided that I would surprise her with a candlelight string quartet even though I had no interest, I figured she would like it. But she didn't like it, she loved it. It was great. I was pleasantly surprised on how great this actually was. The theatre was immensely sized and the music was phenomenal. I will definitely be coming back.
Great experience, surprisingly decent chairs, FANTASTIC Old Theatre Aesthetic! Only issue I had was being able to hear other theatres and also loud cars on the road. They might need to do some more sound proofing inside idk
First time at the Gem Theater for a Candlelight concert and it is a nice, small venue. Parking is difficult, so you will likely have to park on the street a block or two away, but overall, it was a nice place to see in the KC area!
My mother and I, attended the candlelight event at the gem theater. It was not as advertised. We dressed up formerly for an event that was quite below the class level portrayed in all of the advertisements. And it was actually laughable. The event was corny in nature and not traditional to that of a classical music concert. The venue itself, isn't much to see either. We informed fever that despite charging us "for a photo" the photo never happened and fever wouldn't give back our money. They instead told us to "go to the venue to get your refund". We of course will not ever be coming here again. We will be disputing the charges with our bank.
This genre of music has never been a part of my life much. But because of my partner, turning me on to this and then with the environment and Ambiance of the candle lights when you show up for the event, you'll see the impact mentally and psychologically this event has on you. I enjoyed it thoroughly I will be coming to the next event coming up here in a few short weeks
The staff members were so friendly and helpful. The place was packed yet all ran smoothly. Plus we made new friends! I'm eager for another event there.
I attended Dr. Gates' documentary, Gospel screening and panel discussion. I have PBS Passport and was able to watch the entire four hours program before it aired to the public on Monday and Tuesday, February 12th and 13th. PBS Passport membership is available for a minimum donation of $60 annually or $5 a month. To have access to the programs offered in Passport is so worth donating to public broadcasting.
Seriously not a bad seat in the house. Loved this place. No food, cash only basic pop-up bar with the sweetest bartender. Clean bathrooms, ample free parking. Comfortable seats. Would absolutely come here again. Loved our experience.
Great concert with Avery Sunshine and Will Downing even though it started a bit late. All the talking beforehand kind of shorted is on the music but it was a blast.
Comfortable seats, great staff, wonderful atmosphere and the sound quality was awesome. When someone was disturbing the performance they were escorted out in moments. Couldn’t recommend more as a venue.
This is a perfect venue space for a variety of applications. Of course, whether you go there depends on whether you like a particular scheduled event there, but we enjoyed the space for a night of candlelight string music.
This is my 1st time here and it was absolutely wonderful. It was for Charles & Alkeesha Williams Wedding it was so beautifully heartfelt, and after the Wedding reception there was a play called, "For Better or For Worst" and THAT too was a show stopper!!! From 2pm to 10 pm was THE BEST time well spent! CONGRADULATIONS To the new couple, and very well done you two on the play!!!!
