The total process took 7 days and $2700. My son was satisfied that the job was done correctly. I'm not going to sugar coat this: Ken is a man of few words. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS....IT'S WORTH THE FULL READ: I'm a 65 yrs old woman, a devout Christian my words are truthful in this review. God knows my heart and actions, I am writing this to help others I was stuck in the middle of the road with a failed transmission. I called my FREE TOWING with GEICO and they told me it would take 1 hours. I was hesitant to call Aamco because they do not have a good reputation (and this location precedes that). When I called them I TOLD HIM I HAD GEICO WOULD be 1 hour, they said they could come in 35 min. and there was no charge for the tow and diagnostic. Ok so let's go with the faster tow right? Not so fast. After my diagnostic (a full day later) they sent me a outrageously high quote. I NEVER AGREED I WOULD COMMIT TO THEM FOR SERVICE. Who doesn't get at least 3 or 4 quotes! I found a better price for a NEW TRANSMISSION elsewhere and all 3 quotes were $1,200 to $1,600 less. When I called to let them know I was declining services all the sudden these once pleasant guys (Steve in particular) started bullying me horribly as if he has turned into Satan himself. He demanded to know who "undercut him" and I told him that was none of his business and just to expect a tow truck. NO ONE IN MY 65 YEARS HAS ANYONE BULLIED ME EVER SPOKEN TO ME SO HORRIBLY. I MEAN BELOW THE BELT NAME CALLING, WISHING ME A BAD EXPERIENCE ELSEWHERE. I HAVE STRONG SHOULDERS, BUT I BROKE OUT IN GIVES AND WAS GETTING CHEST PAINS. HE SAYS I NEVER TOLD HIM ABOUT GEICO WHICH IS COMPLETELY FALSE. (THE CALL TO GEICO IS ON MY PHONE RECORDS) Most everyone has towing included with their insurance! STEVE REFUSED TO RELEASE MY VEHICLE WHEN THE TOW TRUCK CAME UNTIL I PAID $268 for the free tow and diagnostic. I GIVE YOU MY WORD OF HONOR THAT HE NEVER SAID IT WAS CONTINGENT UPON DOING BUSINESS WITH HIM. THESE PEOPLE ARE VERY MEAN-SPIRITED. DON'T TRUST THEIR NICE ATTITUDES ON THE PHONE OR IN PERSON.

Took my classic 1970 Olds Toronado there because it was slow to shift. Ken took a look at it and fixed it in a couple of minutes. I had a vacume leak which he corrected and the car shifts like new. Pleases to find a shop that is honest and didn't just say it needed a rebuild. Thanks for the assistance. Highly recommend this shop for your transmission needs. I'll be returning for a full service as soon as parts arrive, special order, go figure. Service done and couldn't be happier. fast and did while I waited, Had a wheel bearing lock up and Ken and Robert helped me press out and reseat the new bearings. Contacted these guys on Sunday afternoon and by mid-day Tuesday we had the car back with a new transmission in for a lot less than anyone else quoted. Good service, very professional and highly recommend getting in touch with them if you're needing anything transmission.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had. Ken is completely unprofessional. Took my truck up there because transmission wouldn’t go out of first gear. He couldn’t tell me what was going on not only that would continue to hang up on me as I was in the middle of trying to talk to him. Also will just randomly throw a price at you for him to fix it when he can’t tell you the issue. If I could rate a ZERO I would!!! DO NOT RECOMMEND!!

My transmission was shot in my truck so I bring it to Ken and asked for a price on a full rebuild he offers a good price so I chose to have him do the work. First red flag is he asked for a large deposit where most other transmission shops won’t. But I think about it and agree. Gets back to me 6 days later that it’s done I come for a test drive and the truck is stalling and slipping gears almost worse than when I dropped it off. He agrees it’s bad and says he’ll get right to fixing it. Over the next week and a half he calls about oh he got the wrong parts and it’s not his fault. Finally says he doesn’t know what he is doing and had to get another mechanic to look at it. Calls me up says it’s done. Shows me the parts which was only 1 pack of clutches and a planetary, no where near a full rebuild as discussed. I took it for a test drive and told him if it wasn’t acting right I’d be back and wanting a refund. It shifts funny and slams really hard into gears. When I get back to the shop he is gone and not answering my phone calls. I took the truck to a different highly reputable transmission shop and they agreed that something is really wrong. My lawyer has told me that the only way I might see that money again is to bring this case to small claims court, so that is what I’ll be doing come Monday morning. So Ken if your reading this it’ll be smarter for you just to give me the full refund before court, because it’ll end up costing you more since you’ll also be the one covering court costs. Needless to say, no I would not recommend this scam artist to anyone!

I contacted Ken on replacing a shift solenoid in my 2006 Pontiac G6 transmission. Ken advised me he could do the job and advised me to change the other two solenoid also as they were the original parts. Ken finished the job ahead of schedule and gave me a reasonable price for the repairs. My vehicle shifts great and Ken did an awesome job. I would highly recommend Independent transmission (Ken) for all your transmission problems.

We started losing gears while out of town in our 2007 Suburban. My wife made some calls and Ken was able to fit us in quickly. We had it transported to his shop, he found the issue (orbital gear snapped) and was able to rebuilt/repair for a reasonable cost in less than a week. It has been running great! We were so satisfied with his work that we ended up towing our 1997 Suburban to have him rebuild that transmission also. It's an older Suburban, but he was able to repair it in about week even having to wait for a couple of parts. Truck runs and shifts great! We did have one issue with the linkage (which was on backorder), but he was able to get us running until the new cable came in.

Ken is an A1 guy honest and straight forward the top side very knowledgeable. I had the tow company drop my Chevy Tahoe off to him and he got to work in no time. I actually stopped by to speak to him and he pointed out a few other things my truck was doing. Had my truck done on time like he said he would and running extra smooth. Ken did a great job in fixing my car. He fixed my motor and transmission for a good price. He is a very hard worker and got done with my car in 2 weeks and it’s been working great since. Ken always helped me and is flexible with pricing to fit your price range. He was very honest and won’t try to scam you into paying for things that aren’t wrong with the car. If you need a good transmission guy, he’s the one.

*Update* Please read!!! 9 months after Ken Peterson rebuilt my transmission it stopped working! It would no longer come out of second gear and I looked at my paperwork thankful he had giving me a one year warranty! Well I brought the truck back to him and he was extremely rude telling me he was very busy and he wouldn't be able to fix it for 4 months(conveniently after the warranty expired) I was also having trouble with my brakes at the time and he informed me he would fix that problem the next day for $680.00! I brought my truck to another mechanic and was told how terrible of a job Ken did on my transmission and that they would replace my brake booster(which is why my brakes wouldn't work) for $218.00!! Thats 460 dollars less than what Ken was trying to charge me! Plus he never actually rebuilt my transmission he only replaced some broken parts and basically put a band-aid on it! This man is very dishonest,rude,unreliable and definitely not trustworthy! I would NOT recommend him to anyone....EVER! Please be wary when dealing with him if you must! *****The following is my original review***** I had a good experience at this transmission shop! Ken Peterson is knowledgeable and dependable! He rebuilt the transmission on our 2006 Expedition and I am very happy with how fast and honest he is!
