What clients say about Austin Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center in Austin (TX)

I’m a longtime Austin resident and was dropping off donations. A staff member thought I was a homeless person. I’m a person of color and this was incredibly racist.

Well organized and easy to drop off larger recyclables, electronics, and household chems, etc. make sure to make an appt at least 24hrs in advance.

Quick and easy given you need an online appointment. Friendly folks all trying to lessen our impact on the planet.

Great place for recycling and zero hassle. Separate your stuff out and it's super easy and it doesn't smell like a landfill.

Update for 2026. Easy to book an appointment online but, websiteis a little confusing to understand. The navigation of the area is well done with painted lines. The staff are super friendly and enjoy their work. My only criticism is they do not take mattresses or mattress toppers. Highly recommended.

Travis county residents can recycle almost everything here for FREE! Scrap metal, styrofoam, plastic wrapping, textile recycle, batteries, old hair dryers, non-working small engines, old washer/dryer, etc. Make sure you make an appointment the day before (at the latest).

Make your appointment online. Drop off batteries (including automotive), clean Styrofoam and electronic items. Easy come and go!

I have never dropping off anything here and was unaware you needed to make an appointment. Scott Long has the worse attitude and made it seem as if I was stupid for not knowing there needed to be an appointment. Unless you want to be insulted, don’t use this facility.

This facility is easy to get to, and they recycle everything! All the usual stuff plus paint, small electric components and appliances, paper, plastic, batteries, tires, mattresses, wood…etc. The people who work there are pleasant and helpful. I’ve never been there and had to wait, it’s very efficient. More ppl should use it.

Awesome staff, and convenient drop off with easy access for 26'ft moving box truck. Thanks guys

So thankful for this service. Living in an apartment has limited ways to properly dispose of items, and this facility is an excellent resource and solution. The cherry on top, everyone I interacted with here was so kind, polite and extremely helpful. They all seemed to care about doing things right and it was really refreshing.

It's great there but had some rude staff memeber yelling becuase I was given permission from one of the workers to take stuff then another said I couldn't and began to yell like a crazy person. Im not running or trying to be sneaky do not need workers freaking out over recyclables very rude

This place is great, been here a dozen times. Only issue is they get way too butthurt about having an appointment, when it's not necessary. Every time I drop off it's something small and I'm there for 10 seconds then I'm gone. I'm not causing anyone to stay late and also not effecting anyone with an appointment. The dude checking people in needs to relax. I don't care how long you've been working there, lol. Every time I go it's the same procedure. Not sure what the unnecessary attitude problem is about?

They make it very easy to recycle everything that doesn't go in the blue bin. You just follow the lines to the area you need....plastic, chemicals, scrap metals, electronics....and nearly all the staff is extremely friendly and patient. They also have a reuse center with free usable chemicals that have been returned and free mulch. You must make an appointment the day before, but if it is very easy to do on the website or app.

Such a great Austin resource -I go there for free mulch multiple times a year. The quality of the mulch varies, sometimes it's very finely mulched and sometimes there's a lot of bigger pieces of sticks. If it's an area where I'm worried about appearance I'll sometimes use a few inches of that mulch and then top it with prettier store bought mulch. Don't forget to check out the shed where people have donated household chemicals. Today I got a full bag of organic fertilizer, biodegradable weed killer, and just enough paint for a small project I'm doing. Also dropped off my old water heater.

Not much of a reviews guy, but I had a tv box with some styrofoam in it I needed to recycle… just googled the closest recycle place to me and it brought me here. I didn’t know I needed an appointment, but if you don’t make one the guy at the gate will treat you like you’re an absolute moron. Guy thinks he’s some kind of bad ass, brother you work at a recycling yard. Biggest smart ass I’ve met in my 5 years in Austin. He let me through without an appointment after make a big deal about it like he’s doing me a massive favor and there was literally one other car in the entire place . Made me wish I just smashed it all into my trashcan at home and didn’t bother recycling at all. God, I can’t stand unnecessarily rude people.

It's great to be able to drop off old cathode ray tube tvs! The layout is a bit confusing, but see pics -

Dropped off electronics 10am April 4th and staff directed process poorly and the communication that actually happened was disrespectful and overty antagonistic. More of an experience I would anticipate at a county jail.

I had a stack full of stryofoam this year and decided to just take it to them. Pretty easy process by appointment only. Employee are nice since there weren't much to do and they were waiting at their respective stations.

This is the best place I've found in Austin to recycle styrofoam. You'll have to make an appointment on their website, so I often save up what I need to bring and see if I have things in the other categories they take. That includes electronics, large cardboard, and paint. This location is also the place to pick up mulch offered in their website. The staff have always been friendly, helpful, and kept things moving efficiently for the many cars dropping things off, especially on weekends.

Seamless drop for all the electronics I had to dispose of. Super organized! Easy in and out. Make sure to book an appointment or you can't get in!

The employees are great, very kind. I have mobility issues and they consistently bring carts out to me and do other helpful things. It's wonderful to have a place to take plastic bags and Styrofoam.

Everybody was very friendly and their process is efficient and easy to understand. I made an appointment and dropped off ten years' worth of old pesticides, pool chemicals, and paint from my garage and it took maybe three minutes start to finish. This is a great local service.

I made an appointment online and dropped off some 20 year old computers and monitors here and it was very quick and easy! I can't believe there is a Texas law that I must be able to dispose of cathode ray computer monitors for free within a reasonable distance from where I live!! It would have been $20 to drop off each monitor at the Best Buy. For this location, one bump that happened was that to make an appointment, you must specify an Austin limits address, and yet computer monitors are free to any Texas address. On the county selection page, I was able to select Williamson county, but I had to put in an Austin address on the first step. There could be another option that's like "please enter your Austin address, or select computer drop off".

Super quick & easy to drop off household toxic waste! It was easy to schedule the appointment online, and they let me come in even though I ended up being there a little early. They took paint, lightbulbs, a laptop battery, and were kind to accept some light switches even though it was probably the wrong section. Very friendly staff! Easy to work with.

Friendly staff & easy process: make the appointment online, check off all the items you plan to drop off; then show at the scheduled time (or a little early) with your mask on. There might be a few cars in queue, but it was a short wait. Suggest planning on another 5 minutes in case you miss the drop point(s) & need to return to the gate. I went on a Saturday, so local traffic was light. I'll visit them again!

Good experience. Showed up right before closing, had to wait in line but got in after closing time. Recommend showing up earlier rather than later.
