Chesapeake Beach is basically the southern part of Chick’s Beach quieter, laid-back, and very much a local favorite. It’s not crowded like the boardwalk and has a relaxed neighborhood feel that makes it easy to enjoy.
There aren’t really waves to surf, but it’s a great place to lay out, get some sun, and relax by the water. If you’re looking for a calm beach day without the chaos, this is a solid spot.
If you're a tourist, Chesapeake Beach is one of the best spots for beach-life. It has beautiful views, great places to take photos, and there are multiple restaurants and bars nearby if you need a little refresher throughout the day.
Parking can be a bit wild, as Chix is a popular hang-out spot, but it's not as crowded as the resort beach Oceanfront. You will definitely have a good time here. The beach is usually well taken care of and the locals are fun.
Lovely little stretch of beach. Mostly locals here and people walking their dogs. There was some beach debris, but it didn't detract from the experience. Good spot to see the sunset.
We have not been back in years. Police tower on site, added more boat docks. You can no longer wadding or swimming near the opening is from the boats launch to the main water.
Still nice place to come, though. The parking fee was $4
Went to this beach today August 6. The police told us to leave because we had dogs on the beach!!!! Do NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE!!!! IF THE POLICE SEE YOU WITH YOUR DOG BETWEEN 10AM AND 6PM YOUL WILL BE TOLD TO LEAVE. Virginia beaches are NOT DOG FRIENDLY.
Very nice beach. Just be careful of where you park to avoid getting a ticket. And the Beach entrance is marked. Be nice to the people living around there. Stay off there property and respect posted signs.
I’m not sure if the GPS took me to the right spot or not but the was not really lookin light a park, just an entrance to get into the beach. Parking is very limited. But once you park and walk to the beach it’s pretty secluded. At least In the late afternoon on a cold sunny Sunday. Just people walking the beach with their dogs mostly. But it was nice to sit by the water and just hang out. The beach was fairly clean and had trash cans. No port a potty’s down this way.
Very nice and clean beach. Highly recommend this location to spend time with the family,walk the dog or even take a nice run or slow walk. It’s beautiful and you can even see dolphins pretty regularly right now.
Diamond in the rough. Street parking only but it’s worth it if you have young kids. Surf is light and the sandbar is long. Low tide offers endless tide pools for young ones to play in without worrying about the surf and if you’re like me and hate cold water, the bay water is warmer than the open ocean water in Virginia Beach.
I have walked this beach many times now and I will say I enjoy it. I have walked the beach which is not long. It is a pretty clean beach. Parking is not to bad in the off season. Also when you are done with the beach you could grab a bite to eat afterwards because many restaurants are located so close by.
Best beach in the VA Beach area! A real gem! Good for families with small kids. Very calm waters. We had a beautiful day and the sunset was spectacular!
Great for younger kids water not to deep at least 25 yards out. Small waves. It's not a tourist attraction soo no public restroom, food amenities or other attractions, just good ol fun in the sun. Also the wind and sand combo can be a real challenge some days
I love this beach. Not crowded at all and family friendly (during the week) Lots of locals walking dogs early morning and late evening. The sand is firm and flat, great for brisk walking.
City takes good care of the beach, clean, lots of trash cans.
Great beach for wading, swimming and water sports. Usually the water is calmer than the oceanfront so it's good for small kids. We also enjoy long walks down the beach.
Beautiful beach. Quiet, peaceful... no tourists here!!! It's a locals beach tucked away right near the bay bridge tunnel. Been coming here for years and it never gets old. It makes for a much nicer getaway when you want to avoid the tourists at the oceanfront. Obviously since it's on the bay, there are no waves here (but depending on the tide, you might see some every now and then). There's plenty of restaurants and entertainment nearby, both on the beach and right off shore drive. This beach has a special place in my heart.
