It was hard to find with the "traffic circle" which I've never come across before but dropoff was easy and I was not expecting help; I didn't know it was manned by employees. The only problem I had add a first time user at this facility was the one gentleman was very gruff and insistent that you stop your car at one specific spot that he indicated and was upset that I didn't see his hand signal nor understood what he wanted! He made me back up and move forward until he was satisfied.
The staff here are fantastic. Kellan and Steve are always friendly, helpful, courteous and respectful. I bring my large cardboard boxes here regularly and I always leave with a smile. Please remember to break down your boxes before bringing them here.
The workers are very friendly and helpful. It is a much better system than when people went to the First Colonial and Virginia Beach location years ago.
Extremely convenient however, be aware if you have a crew cab, full size long bed truck it is tight to make the one way only path into the tight turn around kiosk recycling center. I asked the attendant, if I could back into the afforded space on the opposite side due to the tight turn and he said " one way only and it is a safety consideration". He added " i would confuse people" all the while traffic was backing up, because asking this question. Obviously, one would wait until traffic was clear to back in, but he was inattentive and typical non common sense city worker, who did not care of the customers vehicle constraints - my fault. Will only use this location in dire of need and will park outside of fence way next time, with hazards flashing.
Great convenience! I visit this place at least twice a month. Before I knew it existed I had to regulate how much cardboard I put in my recycle bin so I wouldn’t fill it up before trash day. Now I just drive here and toss the boxes in the compactor. They also have some of the friendliest employees there to greet you.
Always friendly attendants. But hours open are somewhat misleading. On days they need to swap out the compactors, they will be closed gates for 3 hours, without warning. So your loaded up vehicle will have to return another day! Perhaps this should be done at off hours of open gate times?
It's the middle of the day in the middle of the week (1:40PM on a Wednesday) and they're closed because it's a little rainy. Rain is not classified as severe weather. Fix this.
My husband and I come here about once a week to drop off our recyclables and my day is always brightened by the super friendly guy that works there. They are always open at posted hours, even the couple of times we just barely made it at the last minute before closing. Great job VB!
Today is the 2nd time I've come to drop off recycling and it was closed. I checked the website both times to make sure it was open before coming and despite it saying it was open it was not. 20 miles round trip wasted and gas. 😠
I’ve never been so motivated to recycle. The employee’s jovial demeanor was infectious even though I came 10 minutes before they closed. It was super easy to drop off recyclables and the employee was patient in educating me on what can and could not go in the compactor.
Municipal Center recycling location is scheduled to be open from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm. It was closed at 11:00 AM today, 7/11/2022. Nothing was posted on the gate, which was closed and locked. This is the 2nd time during the last month I have found an unexplained gate closure during hours of operation.
Personal/private enclosed trailers not allowed? Neither the website nor customer service provide policy prohibiting using personal trailers to transport recyclable paper/cardboard, but the attendant says their manager won’t allow it and security cameras are watching. The issue shouldn’t be the trailer, but rather what is being dumped and by who. Very frustrating to try to do the right thing by recycling bulk moving paper and cardboard boxes only to be told to drive to another facility to throw it away because I’m using a (non-commercial) trailer. There’s an attendant there to make sure the service isn’t being abused, they should have some discretion to allow non-commercial trailers that can combine multiple trips into one. Any trailer prohibition policy seems to be limited to businesses based on the center’s sign.
Great location, easy access, brand new compactors… for a while prior to the new compacting bins, there wasn’t always a city worker to monitor. Now with the new bins it seems someone is always there which helps to keep the area clean and the bins from overflowing.
Municipal Center recycling location is scheduled to be open on Saturdays, from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm. It was closed on Saturday, June 19, 2001. Nothing was posted on the gate (which was locked) that the facility was closed. Please do better, City of VB.
Convenient and close to home only problem is depending on who's working you get different directions about dropping off and there's one man in particular who is rude and laughs at the customers poor public service
Easy, quick, efficient. Just be careful. The gps takes you to the front of the building it's behind. If you follow the gps, go past the building take a left at the light, follow the road and take the first left after the bend.
Multiple occasions I’ve taken cardboard down during their “open” times only to find it blocked off and an employee saying they’re closed. But people want covid hazard pay, cool!
Worst municipal recycling in America by far! The most populous city in the State and they have one location? Although it claims to be open it never gets emptied so they have a guard on it so you can't drop off recycling. When is Virginia Beach going to wake up and join the rest of America and make recycling easy instead of a quest of the impossible?
I have a full car of cardboard boxes that I've broken down and was going to drop off on Sunday around 3:45pm. This is the second time I've hauled things over there hours prior to when it states it will be closed only to find that it is closed early and the entrance is blocked. What is happening!? Now I'm riding around with a full car. Please update your hours!
I arrived here Sunday 08/11/19 3:30pm only to find the entrance blocked off. Likely because, per my observation, all the bins were stuffed full. Ugh.
But! I returned early after the next day and all the bins were empty. Nice.
