Dropped off my transmission for work and was given a referral out to another shop that was more familiar with my gearbox. My F-150’s reserve gear suddenly stopped working. I looked online for possible issues and solutions and it appeared that this issue was common with the F-150s. The reserves band breaks down and allows the truck to continue to drive in forward but does not engage reverse. The articles I read also said to get it fixed quickly before any other damage occurs to the transmission.
I went to my mechanic of 30+ years (Ted’s Garage) and I was told that they didn’t work on transmissions but recommended Soto’s Transmissions for servicing of my F-150. I called up the shop and spoke to Omar. I’m not sure if Omar is the owner or just general manager but either way, he is a really nice guy and is really easy to speak to. I explained to Omar the issue with the transmission and he said that they could diagnose the transmission for a cost but that if I decided to get the work done with them, they would waive the cost of the diagnoses. I decided to go ahead with the diagnoses. I got a call back a few days later and was told that the reverse band had definitely broken and that they could fix it but could not guarantee the repairs as they didn’t know what other things may be going on with the rest of the transmission such as metal shavings being introduced into the transmission from the broken reverse band.
He gave me two estimates, one for the repair of the reverse band and one for an overhaul of the entire transmission. After consulting with my mechanic, we both agreed that for the difference in price (which was about $900.00) I may as well get the entire transmission overhauled since it’s already out and I wouldn’t have to worry about something else happening to it.
I gave Omar the thumbs up and they went to work on it. I was surprised to get a phone call the following day from Omar. He informed me that there were additional high-performance parts that I could add to the transmission for another $200 that would improve the performance of the transmission and make it last longer. He also said that if I went ahead and did it, he would add an extra year warranty on the transmission. I went ahead and had them add the high-performance parts as I had done this to my 1967 Mercury Cougar 25 years earlier and was pleased with that upgrade as well.
Omar called me a few days later and said the F-150 was ready. I went to pick it up and he told me that I would need to bring it back in two weeks just for a follow up to ensure that the fluids remained level and that there were no leaks. I went into the office to pay and I asked him if he offered a military discount. He said yes, on the service only, not part so that was a nice surprise.
I would recommend “Soto’s Transmission” to anyone. Omar and his crew were professional, seemed honest and got my truck up and running in a reasonable amount of time and they were about $1000.00 less then what I had expected to pay.
Highly recommend Omar and the team at Soto's Transmissions! I'm completely satisfied with their rebuild of my transmission. Had our vehicle towed in and was sent pictures the following day of all the damage. Omar broke down my options price-wise. He called when the vehicle was completed and said the vehicle was done however they wanted to keep it overnight to check to make sure there were no leaks after the test drive. It actually shifts much better now and is a lot smoother! Again, highly recommend Soto’s - very professional, high-quality work, and fantastic communication! Thank you, Omar and Team!

Omar answered my phone call and helped me answer many questions I had. I was worried my transmission was going out and they tested it for two days to verify it was running fine with no engine codes. They did a fluid drain and change with new filter and even put a new pan! The best experience I've ever had at the mechanics and would recommend anyone to go here. They are the best in town!!

Took my car to Mason's Auto Clinic when my service light came on. They referred me to Soto's. Omar found the problem quickly, fixed it for less than I expected, and sooner than I expected. He told me there was a slight chance his fix may not resolve the issue but it seems to have worked. I don't live anywhere near the south bay area, but this is the only transmission shop I take my Jeep to. Soto's has fair prices, does fast and dependable work, and the owner/staff are genuinely good people who care about the quality and integrity of their work and customer satisfaction. Up from Yuma, AZ. for the week for a class and doing a minor build on my transmission to luckily find this honey hole. Quite the busy place as you would expect from a shop that has knowledgable and experienced staff. Did not have any work done, but as anyone would know about diving into transmission work, its a bit of a secret art, aka "the black hole" for the typical everday hobbyist and even for some experienced mechanics. Spent almost 5 hours up and down Broadway with tons of shops asking for parts and good transmission shops with answers of distorted looks of confusion and "I don't know mans" busy in their own distraught. I found this place on the web and the only one with a legit parts store as to why I came here and gravely used and received money making answered questions. There's a lot to transmission repair and the help and answers recieved proved they got what it takes to fix them. Thanks
Very rude. Very high prices. Don't take your car there. Knew I had a transmission problem that's why I took it there. Was charged $65.00 to tell me I had a transmission problem. Was quoted $2,500 for a rebuilt transmission or $1500 for a junk yard transmission neither of which included labor. I just wanted to know specifically what the problem was. Oscar said he wasn't the cause of the problem as he turned his back and walked away. He used an analogy of someone who smokes, drinks and uses drugs then goes to the doctor and gets mad when the doctor tells him he is ill because of what he was doing. I have NO idea what this was supposed to mean when it came to the transmission. Can't imagine anyone telling a client this. Save your money. Saw another guy there who was getting his car towed. He said it was running when he took it there.
Omar is a straight shooter and gives me great info on the phone before I bring in my vehicles.
All my cars are high mileage and have had Soto's rebuild the transmissions. Great results.
