Iconic bridge with incredible views of the city and the harbor. Especially beautiful at sunset or at night. A true NYC landmark.

This bridge is now over 22 bucks in tolls assuming you intend to go back from whence you came. If that destination also forces you to enter NJ to go home that will be an additional over 22 bucks. Oh and you'll be greeted with a sign informing you that the tolls will go up AGAIN on January 4th. Why do new Yorkers allow this insanity to continue.

Verrazano Bridge ? is a spectacular, beautiful bridge. Watching is at night is the best time. Lights on bridge sparkles with multicolor gems, diamonds , ruby , emerald and it glitters. You have to see to believe. Awesome Bridge ?

One of the most beautiful bridges in New York City, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge connects Staten Island to Brooklyn. Proposed in the 1920s but not constructed until the 1960s, this bridge is named in honor of Giovanni da Verrazzano, who in 1524 was the first European explorer to enter New York Harbor. The bridge was opened to traffic on November 21, 1964 and the lower deck was opened 5 years later. At the time of its construction it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, and dwarfs the George Washington Bridge, which I will admit is more beautiful. Today this bridge has the 18th longest main span of all bridges in the world. Anyone who has run the New York City marathon will have a special place in their heart for this bridge since it serves as the start of your 26.2 mile tour of the city. This bridge has undergone many renovations throughout its history and it is currently being worked on today, proving that regular maintenance of bridges ensures their long term survival, looking at you Tappan Zee, cough, I mean Mario Cuomo Bridge.

I have seen it plenty of times So when I got to USA i saw it around mid night Later flew by it couple of times and finally drove through it at an evening to come back So pretty much all the day times and all the weathers

Love this Bridge, Reminds me of Saturday Night Fever. Plus it takes to the best pizza place in Brooklyn "Pizza Wagon " the Sicilian is Redonkulus.

My friends, staff, mom and I have taken a bus over this bridge twice and that the view crossing the bridge was marvelous this is because can see lots of ships, busy harbor, and many other things. The bridge is two levels of traffic, and that the New York City marathon passes through the bridge.

There was no traffic or accidents mid day on the weekend! Woohoo! It was such a nice day to take a drive! This bridge was a marvel for it's time having two platforms for traffic. Scenic views and I recommend stopping at the park nearby.

Passed underneath this beautiful suspension bridge while on a cruise ship, in the New York / New Jersey harbor. The New York Skyline can be seen from the bridge. Hope to visit again someday.

We had the opportunity to view this bridge from the water as we sailed out of Manhattan on Carnival Venezia. Seeing this great piece of architecture appear out of the morning mist was kind of a magic moment for me. During our stay in Times Square prior to the start of our fifteen day cruise, we had the chance to take the subway to the Brooklyn bridge and hang a padlock. I wanted to explore the Verrazano Narrows bridge as well, but it only allows pedestrian traffic during special occasions like the New York City Marathon. Wonderful piece of engineering if you get a chance to check it out.

IMHO one of the most beautiful bridges in the world, connecting Brooklyn with Staten Island. It is the swan song of famous Swiss-American engineer Othmar Hermann Ammann (1879-1965). The upper level was opened in 1964, one year before his death, while the lower level was opened in 1969. My only regret is that the bridge does not include a bike path, unlike most other bridges in the New York metro area.

It spans the Narrows, a body of water linking the relatively enclosed New York Harbor with Lower New York Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It is the only fixed crossing of the Narrows. The double-deck bridge carries 13 lanes of Interstate 278: seven on the upper level and six on the lower level. The span is named for Giovanni da Verrazzano, who in 1524 was the first European explorer to enter New York Harbor and the Hudson River.

Verrazano-narrows bridge is beautiful in the evening when all lights are on. Amazing view while driving on the upper level of the bridge. It has lover and upper levels, which in total have 13 lanes. A little bit about the story of the bridge. Until the 1960s, the only way from Brooklyn to Staten Island by water first was by Indian canoes, then boats and ferries. A railroad tunnel was started from Brooklyn in 1923 but never completed. Plans for the vehicular tunnel were studied in 1929 and 1942 but dropped. Finally, in 1946, the state of New York authorized a bridge to he built across this narrows. Thankfully, now we have this bridge ?

Impressive structure connecting the world to Staten Island via I-278. Usually congested 8 days a week during the morning hours . If you are a trucker it will cost a arm and leg (sometimes a kidney) to cross over from Brooklyn. Multi level bridge that is closed (top) on windy days. Stay with the lower level .

A bridge across the Narrows had been proposed as early as 1926 or 1927, when structural engineer David B. Steinman brought up the possibility of such a crossing. At the time, Staten Island was isolated from the rest of New York City, and its only direct connection to the other four boroughs was by the Staten Island Ferry to South Ferry in Manhattan, or 39th and 69th Streets in Brooklyn. In 1928, when the chambers of commerce in Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island, and Staten Island announced that the Interboro Bridge Company had proposed the future construction of the "Liberty Bridge" to United States Department of War. The bridge's towers would be 800 feet (240 m) high and it would cost $60 million in 1928 dollars. In November 1929, engineers released plans for the 4,500-foot (1,400 m) Liberty Bridge spanning the Narrows, with 800-foot-tall towers. It was hoped that the new construction would spur development on Staten Island, along with the Outerbridge Crossing and the Bayonne Bridge, which were under construction at the time. The Liberty Bridge would carry vehicles from Bay Ridge to an as-yet-undetermined location on Staten Island. On the Brooklyn side, the city planned to connect the Liberty Bridge to a "Crosstown Highway", spanning Brooklyn and Queens and connecting to the proposed Triborough Bridge in northwestern Queens. The city also envisioned a possible connection to the preexisting Manhattan Bridge, connecting Downtown Brooklyn to Lower Manhattan. However, a vote on the planned Liberty Bridge was never taken, as it was blocked by then-Congressman Fiorello H. La Guardia, who believed that a public necessity should not be provided by private interest

One of the best bridges in the Northeastern United States! Always a great experience driving over it, weather you are on the upper or lower level, and weather you are stuck in traffic or not! Only downside is the interchange with the Belt Parkway Eastbound. Merging there is really bad when you traffic is heavy, and not that well designed. Other than that, great bridge!

I'm giving 5 stars for the beauty of the bridge, not the toll price. It's way too expensive. $17. When you are on the bridge stay always alert, don't be distracted, because cars make sudden stops especially the lane going to Belt Parkway toward JFK. There is a sign on the bridge saying the sudden stops too. I've been hit twice from the back. You can enjoy the Verrazano Bridge view from Staten Island Beach or Forts such like Fort Tompkins or Fort Wadsworth or from Brooklyn side Shore Road Park and Parkway
