What clients say about West Chester Metal Recycling in West Chester (PA)

These guys are awesome! West Chester Metal Recycling is always quick and easy to work with. Every time I go, I’m in and out in a matter of minutes. The weigh station attendant is the man — always friendly, helpful, and positive, which makes the whole process smooth. It’s honestly a bit of a hidden gem for anyone looking to turn metal “waste” into cash. If you’ve got scrap metal sitting around, this is the place to go!

Clearing out my parents home of 65 years was no easy task. My Dad’s workshop with the thousands of screws, nuts, bolts, nails, scrap metal, tent poles, swing set parts, etc., what to do with all of it. The thought of throwing it all into the trash had me looking for a better way. West Chester Metal Recycling was definitely the right way. The yard was clean & organized & the people/employees were so nice & helpful. Thank you Jason …. It was nice getting extra pocket money too

Not sure what happened here but I'm told the old owners who used to rip everyone off are back in control. As of now avarge bare bright is between 4.50-4.70 a pound and West Chester is at 3.90, they don't have preferred customer prices anymore either.

West Chester Recycling makes it so easy to do the right thing with your scrap metal. Drop off whatever you have and go on your way with extra cash in your pocket. Good for both you and our environment.

Took a bit of copper there with my 2 yr old son and everyone was so kind towards my son. His whole week was made getting a lollipop and seeing the excavator!

Scale is finally one way. They also have a new manager/system. Yard has a better layout. Employees still great.

I have worked with West Chester Recycling both as an individual dropping off at their West Chester yard and in coordinating a metal recycling event. I have found them consistently friendly, helpful, and responsive!

I have been going here for years, but the recent change in management has been impressive! The yard is now neat and orderly and runs like a well oiled machine! Way to turn this place around!

Clearing out my parents house of 70+ years has given me many trips to WC Recycling. My father’s hobby was metal working. On my latest trip I noticed a much cleaner and neater yard and was able to drive in and not worry about adjoining cars, dumpsters, and recycling equipment. Very professional and friendly staff made my drop off quick and easy and the cash payment was efficiently paid out. Appears to be new ownership/ management!! Nice to have this service in our town!!

I'm local to WCR, but it was a first time visit. The employees were helpful and guided me through the process and answered all my curiosity questions. They use carts and bins if you have multiple varieties of scrap (copper, aluminum, steel, etc) It must be separated/categorized. The carts and bins have a T-XXX number on them indicating the tare weight that they deduct from the gross weight. This gives you a final scrap weight which they record on a receipt. I did not check/request for the scales current annual calibration sticker, or a valid calibration document. Seemed over the top for a scrap yard. For really heavy items, or items of all the same make (e.g. copper, aluminum, steel, etc) you would drive on their scale and they would weigh the before and after load vehicle to give you the weight of the scrap. You have the option of off-loading your own scrap or having them assist you. This visit used all three methods as I had a four cylinder aluminum engine that was too heavy for the cart & bins. After weighing my vehicle on the drive on scale they removed the engine with a forklift out of the truck and then drove back on the scale for the reduced weight value. It was 220#'s. Then drove off the scale and parked to off load the remainder of aluminum and copper in a bin and a cart. After everything is weighed, you then take your receipt(s) with the recorded weight(s) to the office where they process the values and provide you with cash. This is where the disappointment comes in. For a 220# engine they gave me a scrap rate @ .12 cents/lb whereas the aluminum scrap rate received in the bin was .52 cents/lb. This is where I feel the mugging took place. Thus the three stars. Yes, an aluminum engine has a steel crank, cams, timing chain & sprockets, valves, and fasteners -the rest is aluminum (block, head, pistons, rods) as the engine was stripped down to a long block. There is no way it amounted to 220#'s. of pure steel. If anything 60/40 aluminum to steel. IMO. Moral of this review. If you're scrapping an aluminum engine, take the time to strip the steel off, -to get a full aluminum scrap rate. However, I feel if they saw a single steel bolt, they would give you the .12 cents rate. Good luck!

Always my go to when recycling metal. Friendlier, cleaner and better prices than EMR and other scrap yards in the region. Man behind the window inside is always super friendly and helpful. Always nice coming here.

It's just disgusting that a business doesn't update its hours of operation on Google Maps. I drove more than 45 minutes to find out that the place was closed even though Google Maps said it was open.

Haven’t come in yet but, I am wondering if you guys accept, metal dirt bike frames, exhaust piping, mufflers ect. And would you guys actually pay me for it?

This is place is ridiculous when you have a guy that appears to be drunk at the scale and wants to ague with you of the material that you have. If I wasn't it a hurry I would have went to a better place that was further away.

My first time at this site and they made it quick and easy. Got more money than I was expecting so that is always welcome!

First time scrapper wasnt sure what to expect..I had an expectation of a surly, gruff, cigar chomping , short tempered guy ....but, the crew here were all friendly and helpful..patiently directing me on how to unload the various metals I had...quick and painless process...I actually received more money than expected...good peoples....

Been using them for years. Since they changed from Kodish to WC Metal Recycling, prices are very competitive.

I came in hesitant given other reviews but I had a pleasant experience. This is my first visit under the new ownership and folks were kind and polite - met four folks total and was greeted with a smile each time. It's also much more organized and tidier under WCR. For sure I would do business with them again.

I think they're awesome. I'm not going to quibble over price I just wanted rid of my burnt products. Can't wait until they handle e cycling.

This place is now called West Chester Recycling, I guess they thought changing names would help their reviews. NOT! I pull into the dock & the old guy tells me I have to go on the scale because I have too much sheet alum. (23 lbs, really?}. I drive onto the scale and that old guy tells me the first guy could have taken it off. I said "make up your mind, where you want it?" He then proceeds to tell me his scale is +or- 10 lbs! So I say "you telling me I have to give you 10 lbs just to zero out?" He then gets upset & says "what do you want me to do, what do you want to do, sell this stuff or not?" Attitude...for lack of time, I dumped it. I then go back to the first scale to off load my cast & extruded & put it on the scale myself, read the scale at 36 lbs. The first old guy looks at the scale & writes the ticket at 35 lbs as if I didn't notice. Stung 2 times in one visit. been going there for years because it was close, never again. The next day I took the rest of my Alum, copper, S/S, brass, motors & wire to Harris Metals in Coatesville, prices are way better & tell James I sent you. What a difference! See my review under Harris Metals, you won't be disappointed.

Showed up around 9:30 AM. Sign says closed from 11:30 AM- 1:00 PM. I was told they are closed until after lunch. What a waste of time. The other times I was here the guys working seemed irritated that they had to be there. I have everything ready to go and 95% of it is wire. Their loss

$1.15 a pound cheaper than Harris and coatesville. And when you have 500 pounds of copper that’s a 500++ dollar difference F this place. I loaded all my stuff back up and got $600 more at Harris! Never ever ever go to kodish. What a rip off. No wonder the place is always dead and Coatesville and Harris have trucks on the scales all day long. What a joke. And “stew” the owner. He’s a spineless a**. You’ve been warned

Absolute rip off-tries to claim copper is one type when it’s not so he can give you a lower price-never go there -

Had a very nice experience as I have never turned in scrap metal before. Everyone was extremely helpful and made some cash out of the trip. No one is going to get rich off of scrap metal turn in so felt the return was fair.

No problems. Wasn't looking to get paid. Had some electric motors to recycle. Pulled in - the guy said to put them in the bin marked steel. In and out in 2 minutes. Can't comment on their competitiveness. Haven't tried to sell any scrap.

Do not go here!! Take the extra time to go to a different scrap yard. Their prices are so low compared to market value. They basically rip you off no matter what you are recycling, especially if the owner is the one setting the prices(he's cheap, old, and greedy). Service is terribly slow and all the workers want is a tip from you after not helping the customer out one bit. This place is not worth the hassle and their prices are the lowest around! I will never go here again.

DONT GO THERE!!! Not only do they move at the speed of molasses in a freezer but they tried to rip me off on my catalytic converters. If I could give lower than the one star I would.
Jan 21, 2016 -
Dishonest pricing. I recycled 2 Mercedes Benz catalytic converters, and the company claimed they were only worth $62. That's way below the market price. I would go elsewhere next time, and I would not recommend this company.
