What clients say about Whole Foods Market in Washington (DC)
-
They have very high quality meat and seafood, their organic produce is really good... All of it comes at a premium. $$$. Unfortunately, (not unsurprisingly), the quality has declined since Amazon purchased Whole Foods. For some things they're the best in town, other things are outlandishly priced. In one year skirt steak has gone up $8/lb to $19.99!! Be ready to hit a second store if shopping though. They are regularly "out of" basic things by 7pm. (e.g. milk, berries, yogurt)

The worst Whole Foods in the area and everyone knows it. Management is clearly trying hard to make it worse every day. Should you go there if you are walking by? Sure, it's a WF. But if you are doing a big shop in your car, drive on past.

I absolutely love my neighborhood Whole Foods! (especially the quick, efficient self check-out stations). The bakery and wine selection are superb, the staff helpful, and the sale prices for amazon prime members are excellent incentives for weekly shoppers like myself.

Wide aisles & shelves are well stocked, and several employees hustling about, either restocking or fulfilling orders: but the snag is at the cash registers, only one open & no one to help @ customer service when I walked up...but everyone is nice & helpful when you do make a connection. Nice to have this location open again

It was compact but had everything needed for my Whole Foods needs. I was pleasantly surprised that it was in the small town. Definitely will visit again next time I’m in Washington DC ?

Pretty easy to get in and out of this store. Plenty of self check out lanes. Not as much variety as some other wfs markets.

A (clean) and orderly Store in Glover Park with fresh foods. A young, diverse and professional team, each charged with helping us find exactly what we want on the daily. Imagine that, with plenty of off-street parking to boot!

It's just very enjoyable to be there. We also love the salad bar.

This Whole Foods is truly one of the best in our area! A special shout-out to Matt and Henry, two outstanding team members (I believe Food Managers) in the prepared foods section, who went above and beyond to fulfill a large pizza order for our local school (Horace Mann) today. Their professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made the process seamless — and the pizzas were a huge hit! Excellent job, and we’re so appreciative of the care and effort they put into making it happen.

A great place to have coffee and a pastry! Even though it is not an espresso bar but like highly automated machine, my Americano tasted great! You can add half and half or milk as tgey have it in a small fridge for customers. I had a cheese danish and almond croissant and they were delicious! There is also water and ice available. Very reasonable prices for coffee and pastries and you can sit by the window and eat there. They also have very nice and clean washrooms for customers. Staff very friendly and helpful.

This is a great Whole Foods, people that say it isn’t are nuts. It’s big, clean and has everything you’ll need.

Bought soup from Whole Foods in Glover Park 2323 Wisconsin Ave. NW DC 20007. The container was leaking, and I address this issue to customer service. She suggests adding another container and packing it in a plastic bag. Live 10 minutes from the store in less traffic. When I came home and opened it, the whole bag was full of liquid through both containers. See the picture attached.

I’m incredibly disappointed after my recent experience at Whole Foods - Glover Park. I picked up food from the hot bar and a Caprese cheese sandwich this morning and not long after eating, I came down with the worst food poisoning of my life. I strongly believe the Caprese sandwich was the cause. I’ve never been this sick from food before, and it’s been a truly awful experience.

// Update: Self checkout is much better than the Mechanical Turk Just Walk Out arrangement (it was people in India logging our transactions all along). Recent updates to their inventory make this store almost unbelievably fantastic. They have lots of delicious and interesting gluten free, vegan, and both organic and non-organic snacks, drinks, and produce. Their healthy frozen meal section is finally as good as TJ, and barely more expensive. Other than still being given a potentially toxic BPA-laced thermal paper receipt despite following their suggestion to turn this option off in my Amazon app, my only complaint is that their apparently AI-informed variable pricing causes the cost of my favorite items to increase only after they have become weekly staples. I'm more than happy to try new things, and am glad that these are often on sale to encourage me to do so (and have found some deliciously healthy things in the process), but I eventually stop buying products unless they are at least fairly regularly on sale. Their single serving kombucha and delicious canned coffees, for example, keep creeping up in price. Luckily, many of my favorites are periodically discounted enough that I don't have to completely live without them. End of update. // Creepy to be watched by so many cameras at once until you remember, you're always being watched by so many cameras no matter where you are. But it's a little unsettling not to know what you're being charged for until after you leave. Still, good selection, clean, well-organized. It's the vaguely fun or confusing shopping experience of tomorrow.

Everyone at the store is kind and very helpful. Place is clean and very organized. HOWEVER, I am giving a one star because after going here during different weeks the Pizza person is never there and I would ask multiple workers (who are helpful and amazing) to be able to order whole Pizzas. This has happened multiple times. Sorry for the rating but this is unacceptable.

Couches in the already-small seating area were removed making it even harder to eat in-store with larger groups or children. No idea why this hostile decision was made since it does the opposite of improving customer experience. Previously was my go-to spot for a quick lunch but if they are determined to make things harder for me I’ll take my business to the chipotle across the street.

I have not shopped here since this location inexplicably closed for a few years. The new store layout is better, except I preferred the health and beauty section having its own shop-boutique area as it did with the previous layout. Employees weren't very friendly except the woman at customer service and the woman at self checkout. I was in the store for a very long time (over an hour). Especially in health and beauty and was never approached. The only reason why the employee working in that section said hello to me is because I said hello to her first. The floral department seems much smaller than other locations. The store is clean, well-stocked, organized well, and has a few friendly employees. Plenty of parking in the underground garage.

I’ve been living around this area for a few years and I always buy here but it’s disappointing a times. Sometimes was the service, it got better this year. Now it is the essential products that they should have, like eggs or cheese. I went there Saturday and I couldn’t believe they didn’t have eggs and last weekend was cheese. Another thing that I see and it’s wrong was the bread right next to the hand soap. I didn’t buy bread that close to the soap I don’t want to taste.

I am a regular at this Whole Foods and have stopped by during lunch breaks at least once a week since it opened. I come here often enough to know that the bakery products have gone down in quality. I have not bought cookies, scones or bread here in a long time because every time I give them a chance, the products are over baked. (I will say that the mini pastries are an exception). Most recently I grabbed a single, brown butter apple cookie and it was overly sweet and gooey. Everything else in the store is quite standard. I miss the days when the hot buffet was by the box and it was just walk-out.

2024 UPDATE: Amazon discontinued the use of Just Walk Out technology at its grocery stores. This Whole Foods has changed back to a traditional checkout system for all customers. The review below reflects the previous experience with the technology available. Very cutting-edge store, the first Whole Foods to open with Amazon's Just Walk Out technology. However, the other recent review from a Local Guide has some inaccuracies. You are *not* required to use the Just Walk Out technology. There are traditional self-checkouts if you prefer. When you enter the store, you choose which way you'd like to shop. If you do want to use Just Walk Out (and I recommend it), you do NOT need to be a Prime Member. You can use an in-store code from the Amazon/Whole Foods app, set up palm scanning (Amazon One), or use a credit card. Just Walk Out cuts out so many steps from shopping. You can put things into your bag as you shop, and you don't have to take them out again until you get home. I was so impressed with how well it works, even with complex items like loose bars of soap set out on a table, the self-serve hot bar/salad bar (which is priced by the box here), and the deli. As of November 2023, this store has eliminated the entry gates. You can walk in freely like any other grocery store. When you are ready to check out, you can go to self-checkout, or you can head straight to the Just Walk Out exits, scan your phone/card/palm, and be on your way. The selection here is exactly what you'd expect from any other Whole Foods. It's really impressive how the Just Walk Out technology has been scaled up to a store this size, with such a large selection. The quality is great. I went out of my way to shop here because I'm a fan of the technology. I can't wait for this to come to a neighborhood closer to where I live.

This was my preferred whole foods location because of the 'just walk out' technology. It made grocery's shopping so easy! I don't have a car, and I shopped directly packing into my shopping cart. Now, I will have to estimate what I can fit in my cart, not easy. I wonder if the staff will pack the groceries into the shopping carts?

A little bit confined but efficient. The aisles were akimbo and assumed app and scan setup seemed confusing to me. I haven't shopped there much and followed a friend. Seemed like good traffic and healthy people. No one was rude like in the burbs. Definitely organized for on the go shopping, don't eat in there but decent to go options.

I couldn’t have expected to love this place as much as I do. The convenience of the “Just walk out” system is unbeatable. To enter, I scan my palm real quick, I do my shopping and bag my stuff as I go, and simply scan my palm to leave. It’s the fastest shopping experience I’ve ever had, and it doesn’t matter how busy the store is—it’s just as fast as when it’s empty, and the shelves have always been well-stocked, in my experience. The hot bar is delicious, as they all are at Whole Foods, but with the added benefit of not charging by weight, but instead by size of container, so you can get more bang for your buck if you’re extra hungry! I know some people have concerns about amazon tracking you & all, but if you’re willing to let go of those worries and get on with your life, this place is the best. Highly recommend.

This Brave New Whole Foods reopened without cashiers is intriguing. The food selections are the same, only your checkout experience has changed. Is this our future or just one future? Cameras and sensors from the ceiling detect what customers select from the shelves. Is this a convenience we need? Seems contrary (but a common theme today) where we live in a world with a growing population, yet simultaneously strive to reduce jobs with low skill requirements? In addition to the food you select, Amazon has sufficient data to NOW know if you are right or left handed, what you look like, your height, the clothes you wear, etc... Wonder who owns this data? I do NOT see any benefits here for the customer, only for Amazon/Whole Foods.

I usually give Whole Food stores a 5 but this one does not have dispensers for plastic utensils like every Whole Foods I've been to had. The dispensers have been proven to save plastic because people use less when items are dispensed one at a time. Instead, there are only packages of utensils which included a knife which I didn't need. This is a BAD corporate decision and I hope they change it soon.

Great concept store. You can login with your In-Store Amazon Code and grab all your groceries and walk out. Super crazy.

Huge changes! Everything has been automated now since they reopened in February 2022. You don't need to be an Amazon Prime member, but it's optimized for those individuals. You walk in through turnstiles, with your unique member QR Code and then you simply walk around the store pick things up and walk out. No checkout, none. Sensors, really cameras, identify what you picked up and put in your bag. You're charged as you walk out. Your receipt shows up in your email in box. I checked, it was accurate. Again, walk in, pick up what you want, place in your bag, walk out. No checkout! The future is here. Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz
