What clients say about AMVETS Thrift Store in Buffalo (NY)

It’s disappointing to see a donation based shop move toward boutique level pricing while no longer accepting donations. That combination feels less like evolution and more like abandoning the original purpose. When prices rise this dramatically, but the community facing side disappears, it raises real questions about priorities. Buffalo deserves better from places that position themselves as part of the community.

Been going here since I was little, my uncle and dad used to work here back in the day driving the trucks. Always find something good, my sisters are having their first babies and found a lot of convenient stuff. Hope they don’t close this one like all the other ones closes. Would be sad!

I used to love coming here because I always find that they have such a variety. Now, I’m better off putting my money towards something new. Can you try and keep in mind you are selling second hand items that were given to you for FREE.

Lovely place with a lot of good finds. Prices are good in my opinion, each clothing item costs about $5 at the flat rate but the store has sales often. You can also earn a $4 credit with a purchase of $20 or more. The credit can be used starting the next day.

Everything was Excellent! From the Service at the Front Counter, Questions to Stuff whe floor, And, Eva the Pickup staff were very friendly, informative, and, helpful! I Very Highly Recommed Am Vets!!

Store has lots of good stuff! Area is a bit sketchy for sure. Unfortunately when I went they were only taking cash so I could only spend $20 as that was all I had on me. If they took card I would’ve spent much longer looking!

Color of the week is better sale. This week was 50% off blue. Did not find anything in the regular colors that were cost effective

Disappointed yesterday when I went shopping here. For years this was my absolute favorite thrift store. Had the best selection and prices. Now not so much. Every single pair of jeans was the same exact price of $6.99, regardless if they were Levis, Mudd, other name brands or generic Kmart jeans, just like Goodwill does. If this store will be following Goodwill's pricing I won't be shopping here nearly as much. I also bought a pair of pajama bottoms and upon getting home, discovered that the entire rear end was all holes. How was that acceptable to even put on the rack? And how did the cashier not see that and say something? I can't return them, so I'm out $3.00 which these days is a lot. Again, I am very disappointed

This has always been my favorite place to thrift - racks and racks of clothing to sort through, a nice shoe area, a healthy furniture stock, plenty of home goods and the staff is always pleasant and helpful. They do a good job keeping everything organized by sizing and for the most part I'd say pricing makes sense.

Didn't go to buy anything lately, but donated 16 bags of clothing, shoes, belts, safety vests, purses, and hangers. I help them because they also help me at times. And anything that helps vets is a good thing in my book.

Friendly & funny staff. They know where each section of this large thrift store is. They had two colored tag deals (one at 25%, one at 50%). They also had 50% off women's coats when I was there. Cheaper than Goodwill. We had to hunt a little more to find better condition pieces. We each found a few items we liked at really good prices. Please like this review if you find it helpful.

Always love AmVets no matter the location. I just moved to Buffalo and got a good sized couch for $50 here and a whole set of dinnerware with some coffee mugs for like $5. Good thick winter coats for cheap, too.

A bit disorganized but still a good selection of items. If you want to hunt, this is the place to do it. They have amazing prices too.

I drove here thinking I was going to be able to afford some stuff. This place is literally stealing from there customers. 80 for this bowl it's as is though. $30 for this Fisher price kitchen set for your kid as is. This is not a thrift store they are literally jacking prices up and taking advantage of people who are already down on there luck. Whoever is the manager should be ashamed. Your supposed to help gets while offering good deals to your neighbors. If your looking for a deal you came to the wrong place. I'll never step foot in here again. Just keep ripping people off. Your sick! I would of loved to purchase for my daughter but come on this isn't Facebook marketplace this is a thrift store. Right????

Updating my review. The prices still are definitely a little steep on some items, but I’m pleased to see they don’t keep going up. The Salvation Army locations now are being absurd with their prices. I hope they keep this up so people can afford to load up their carts again.

I love this store I come here fairly often usually 9 out of 10 times I will leave with something that I am absolutely in love with that I called the score of the day. As far as thrift stores go this is one of my favorites

I haven’t been to this location in over a year, used to love it! I came in today and was shocked at how much stuff they had in the store. Then I figured out why. Prices are absurd. You’re a thrift store that throws DONATIONS on the shelf “as is” not an antique store with clean and refurbished stuff. No wonder the sales floor is overloaded with items. Waste of time, Not going back to this location anytime soon.

$20 for a DVD player/VCR with a missing DVD drive. I understand "as-is", but can't things just get TESTED?? Shouldn't be hard with so many DVDs and TVs around.

I have been going here for years. There is always one piece of clothing for me. Men's jeans were picked over. This time I found 4 vinyl records. Guy before me got 6. I found a nice t shirt.

Scheduled a pickup. Scheduled it for when I will have returned from PA. Send two more inquiries to the email address, neither of which was answered, so apparently, it's an email account that isn't monitored. Guy was supposed to pick up today. Showed up to do nothing at all but to put a post card in my door. Never rang the doorbell. This isn't hard. Ring the doorbell. So the guy never shows up, emails never answered, has me on hold for ten minutes for the privilege of DONATING ITEMS TO THEM, and everything is still here because they can't seem to pull off the very complicated maneuver of 1) get out of the car, 2) ring the doorbell. I'm an army vet. I wanted this stuff to go to other vets. This organization, no matter they claim, is so obviously NOT run by or for US military veterans. Obviously.

The prices keep hiking up, and I’m pretty sure one of the workers takes all of the good vintage clothing, (hey, I would too), especially jeans, because I come here multiple times a week, and I can’t find anything appealing compared to other locations. My advice is go the salvo locations and the west Seneca AMVETS for better selection and lower prices.

All of the merchandise is organized neatly and I was able to find what I needed in just a short time. This is a good place to look for old 33 LPs, cassette tapes, CDs and some DVDs. They also carry high quality donated clothing, which is what I was after. The cashier was friendly and helpful. The entire place is kept clean, for the most part.

AMVETS!!! My favorite, FAVORITE spot to come to!!! Nothing better than coming on your day off around 10 a.m. or so... Having nothing but time to look and see if you can find a good find. The staff are usually cool when checking out... I can go into great detail about this place and the cool stuff I have got for cheap. Just know that if you come with one thing in mind? You will FOR SURE see something else that you could use and at a good price. Always stocked and usually clean. VERY BIG recommendation from me. If you are reading this and never been then please go for a great thrift shop experience...

People that work here are great. I purchased a couple of vases to replant a aloe plant. The place has been here for quite some time and I was trying to remember what it was beforehand. I think it was originally the valu store that they built adjacent to it. Anyway, I enjoyed my shopping trip today. I reminded myself of my father he would take those little shopping jaunts. I didn't see much in clothes that I liked. Maybe next time.

It was awesome. We found great Christmas treasures of oold to add to our collections. And the Cashier was so friendly she made us want to go back sooner than expected. We donated our barely used clothes and some of my hubby's cloothes he didn't fit in since his surgery.

Wish people respected the workers, their job is hard enough without you putting stuff in your cart, then taking it out and dumping it anywhere you want in the store. If you want it so be it, but don't hoard, them dump the items or toys anywhere you want. Makes for a very bad time for others who might want or need it.

They've gotten a bit pricier over the years but their selection is still top notch. You can always find something to wear or a craft, and the staff is always very nice :) It would be nice if there was a bathroom (to my knowledge, there isn't one) [could be wrong], and if it was a tinge cleaner. To their credit, they've gotten a lot more selection and the category organization has really improved.
