Went in because my check engine light was on. I had a 930 appointment, I didn’t leave until 244. I was told it was gonna be one or two hours, and then three hours later I was told to wait 45 minutes. An hour after that, I was told that the part just got there so I then could wait 45 minutes. Ended up spending 485 for MAF

After another mechanic cancelled my NY state re-inspection on short notice, Pep Boys got me in without an appointment and took care of my inspection fairly quickly. They also quoted me on repairs I may need in the future, but broke down their urgency so that I didn't feel pressured to do them today. Super helpful!

They charged me for installation on my recent tire purchase in error. When I made them aware of the error they quickly refunded me no questions asked. The service manager (Spencer and Zack) were very courteous and professional during this whole matter. I have had my vehicles serviced at this location a few times and their customer service has always been excellent.

Shoutout to the guys at pep boys for taking my Celsius in my car. My car was at the shop over the weekend. Picked up my car on Monday and my Celsius are gone. Whole pack sitting in the back seat gone. SMH

Im only speaking on Pep Boys on Elmwood. I had a problem at a different shop so I called Elmwood. Joe the Manager was great, totally rectified the situation and made me very happy with their shop & work. Spencer & Zach helped out also. Thank you.

Friendly staff who are clearly working hard, but despite having an appointment, an oil change took 3 hours. I don’t blame the guys on the floor, as it seems like they’re pushed to overbook, but the wait was way too long for me to return for this service.

Recommendation: print out all the available coupons and bring them with you. You may find out after inspection that you qualify for a discount/rebate, and you have to present the coupon when your service is written up.

As just about everyone here has mentioned, DO NOT bring your car here. They have broken my car not only once, but now twice. This place has broken both my car and numerous others in the review. They will nickel and dime you for literally everything. It starts with diagnostics where they will “diagnose” the problem but it’s never the correct one. They will then “fix” a part that doesn’t need to be fixed and continue to do so until you say enough is enough. There are SOOOO many reliable mechanics in Buffalo and this place is not one of them

They tried to charge me $2300 worth of repair so I went to a local mechanic recommended by my friend. Said all i needed was a new tire and new wipers, So i saved $2000 going somewhere else. Thank god i did and im never going to Pep Boys again theyre glorified con artists

I had snow tires installed. Work was not performed as requested!! Tires were mounted inside out (tires were marked) and not rotated as I had requested. They charged 50% more than I paid in the springtime to have summer tires put on. I contacted another location while they were doing the repair. Their price was 50% cheaper!!! Not only was I charged more, the job was not done correctly!!! Notice in the picture that the markings are on the outside, not the inside of the tires. They are on the same axle and not rotated as requested!!

brought truck in for screw in tire waited 2 1/2 hours to get repaired and found out this morning that screw is still in the tire. Will never go back to Pep Boys.Would not give any stars but will not let me post until i picked one.

I went to Pep Boys today for an oil change and had a very bad experience. I had booked an online appointment, and their poster clearly says **“No Wait Oil Change Service,”** but they took almost **3 hours** just for a simple oil change. I was there with my **baby**, so waiting that long was extremely difficult for me. Still, I drove **30 minutes** just to take advantage of the better offers they show online — but they didn’t provide any of those offers, and on top of that they lied saying everything was “done perfectly.” During online booking, I selected the free **battery check** and **free inspection**, but after 2.5 hours they gave me my car and said it was done. When I asked if they checked the battery or inspection, they said **“you never told us.”** Then why offer it online if you’re not going to do it? They didn’t even ask me what oil I wanted. They just put **synthetic oil** even though I selected **conventional oil** online. Before this, AutoZone checked my battery and it showed **weak**, but Pep Boys told me it was “perfect.” What should I understand from that? I wasted **3 hours** there with my baby, and for what? Terrible service, no communication, and no responsibility. They should at least discuss things with the customer. And now apologizing in reply to this review won’t change anything. Very disappointing and unprofessional. Not recommended at all.

I was treated very well. The service advisor Spencer, was friendly and professional. He kept me updated throughout my service appointment. I was satisfied and felt I was cared for. I would recommend Pep Boys on Elmwood Ave to my friends and family

HORRIBLE! They took off my good front brakes and put on bad front brakes. I went for new back brakes, they put those on but switched out my front ones with bad brakes. They refuse to fix my front brakes with no cost because they weren’t originally done from them. They blamed the rustiness on me not driving much but I always drive my vehicle (I work!!!). When they did the inspection on my brakes they said the front brakes are good they just got done (I already knew that, that’s how I know they put bad front brakes on). If I go without my Dad, I always take videos of how my vehicle looks before going to a shop and after. There’s no way brakes rust within a few days on a vehicle that’s always on the move. Every time I book my appointments with them, it’s for 8am sharp but I would have to take a WHOLE day off of work because they would have me pick up around 2pm or 3pm (yea, weird for only back brakes). I was thinking they were going to fix the issue so I kept going back but I left every time with squeaking, which is super inconvenient because I can’t afford to keep taking off of work. I paid over $400 for only back brakes, which seems SUPER overcharged to me. The manager’s name starts with a J, he’s super insensitive and inconvenient. He books me for a inconvenient day every time I call. I informed him weekends are best for me and he always says they only have availability on a work day… but I know they’re open on weekends though. They pretty much got free money from me and I’m still going through the same issue, that I came to them for. As a women, as a black women BE CAREFUL!!! I just simple came to them for assistance on my vehicle. Me trusting them with my vehicle was 1 of the worst things that I did. I lost out on hundreds of dollars that I didn’t even really have AND my Jeep still has the same issue!!! They pick and choose who to scam and do wrong to. Right after I hung up to make an appointment, I had my Dad call. They were able to book him right away for brakes with no issue. Not knowing he was booking for my vehicle. At that point, Dad hung up with them. That’s when we realized they were purposely and strategically bad for business (the harm that they have done was super thought out). I’m probably not the 1st person that they’ve done this damage to, LADIES BE CAREFUL!!! We didn’t take my Jeep back for the 3rd time, I searched a new company to go to. I’ll NEVER go back there. The 1st picture below is how my front brakes looked before going to them. The 2nd pic is a pair of old brakes that they put on my Jeep, claiming those were the brakes that I came to them with. LADIES, PLEASE BE CAREFUL & BE AWARE 🥰!!!!!!!!!! DON’T TRUST THEM IF YOU’RE ALONE.

It’s overall a poor system, it seems like there is no coordination between online bookings and the on site staff. The staff did not appear to be equipped with what they need to fulfill the promises that the website implies. Also, the staff on site needs to do a better job of knowing the stock. Also, if long wait times are to be expected the customer lounge needs to be far better stocked, the environment was depressing.

I Went here for a tire replacement through my insurance, and a fraudulent claim had been made by one of the representatives to my insurance company saying that all tires had been worn, resulting in my insurance denying me a new tire, seemingly due to the presumption of me being negligent toward the car. A day in advance I spoke to a member of the shop whom proposed I participate in a fraudulent claim that I needed two tires fixed so that my insurance would cover another fee. I declined. After going to a different trusted automotive shop, I had been informed and shown that the tires indeed were still in good shape and only one tire would need a replacement. 0 stars. If you want to be scammed come here.

My 2002 Cadillac's engine was shaking in idle. Another garage told me it was going to be too much to fix for it to pass inspection and I should get rid of it. Pep Boy's determined the problem wasn't that severe, fixed it, replaced the spark plugs, rear breaks, oil change, and a CV joint for $2000 making the car drive like new again.

I went there for an oil change and to see why my engine was overheating. They told me it was the radiator hose and it would take 20minutes (yet still 240 in labor)...I get my car back after two and a half hours of them saying 20minutes... My cars engine still was overheating so I had a friend who works on cars look at it and as he opened the hood we immediately see the Pep Boys mechanic left their rag and the BUBBLE WRAP still on the radiator hose...come to find out it was the thermostat causing the overheating. I contacted Pep Boys customer service where I'm now in an endless loop where they keep telling me a field manager will contact me but the field manager named Joe refuses to apologize or show any remorse and says "mistakes happen" and refuses to give me a refund...First off misdiagnosing the issue is the mistake, leaving BUBBLE WRAP on an auto part is sloppy, unprofessional, and feels intentional. He tells me I have to bring the car back in so they can fix it and he can't see why I would feel uncomfortable letting one of their mechanics touch my car again...i essentially paid 600 dollars and all I got out of it was an oil change...They keep sending generic replies to my review saying to contact their email address and its solved nothing...I'm embarassed to have taken my car here.

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE FOR ANYTHING. If I could rate lower than zero stars I would. I took my car to this pep boys to get four new tires put on my car. I ordered Goodyear tires online and made the appointment, since they were doing a Labor Day sale on those tires. The day of, I’m told in the shop they don’t have those tires but they would put higher or equal quality tires on and price match them down for me. An hour later they come out an tell me I need an alignment done since I’m getting all four tires replaced, I don’t think much of it and have them do it since i figured that would need to happen with buying all four tires. They tell me it will take them 30 minutes to do the alignment, and there I am sitting there for two more hours. I overhear the workers discussing a missing bolt for the type of car that I have, but didn’t want to assume it was mine since other customers were in the shop and I obviously don’t know what cars they drive. I think surely if there is an issue they would come and discuss it with me. After over 3 hours of waiting in the shop for this to be done, I finally walk up to the register to check in the status and the workers tell me it’s good to go. They do NOT tell me they had any issues or that there were any issues with the vehicle. They also go to charge me for the tires, and when I explained that I already paid online for them, one of the workers tells me “oh we recalled that charge since you are getting different tires now”. Which was NOT what I was told at the time when the worker approached me with the issue. Classic bait and switch move. It’s now two weeks later, I’m driving my car and my tires start vibrating and smelling like burnt rubber. I had to have my car towed into my mechanic, who is actually trustworthy and he informs he that the alignment done on my car was not only done with the wrong bolt, it was also missing a washer piece and they put the bolt in completely backwards. See pictures below of their shotty work. The shiny new bolt is the bolt they replaced, and I fear just about any person could look at this and see it’s done wrong. My car was out of commission for two days dealing with this issue that COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED if pep boys had just done my alignment correctly. I called them to get a refund, have them fix the problem THEY CREATED (which I was even nervous to do since I have no confidence in their ability to perform car maintenance work). Above all, the level of professionalism at this place is abysmal. The manager Joe, who I dealt with on the phone to get the issue they created resolved, he talked fast over the phone and once I went to pick up my car finally, they downplayed the issue by trying to say nothing else was broken or wrong with my car(which I already knew as I had my experienced and amazing mechanic tell me), and not a single person apologized to me in the store for the situation. NOT A SINGLE ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF THEIR MISTAKE. To put a cherry on top of it, I believe the shop manager was actually the one in the store two weeks ago making calls for the bolt part since he is the same individual who processed my refund in the store. So, he knew the entire time about the issue and somehow failed to bring that out to my attention. Hard to say for sure since he didn’t even have the guts to introduce himself to me. There were two others customers in the shop at the time also having issues with the work they did, so that should put it into perspective as well. This shop fully knew they were putting me on the road in a vehicle that was not properly fixed and risked my life and the life of others in doing so! I think that is the worst part of it all. Once again whatever you do avoid this shop, I can’t even believe they are still operating.

Patrick was really great to work with and the whole crew there was helpful and efficient. They were even very patient with my little dog and his frequent barking while I waited. I came for an inspection but needed some tires (I wasn’t surprised by that) and they got me out relatively quick.

I will absolutely never take my vehicle here again. The staff failed my vehicle for state inspection, but removed inspection sticker even though it was not expired. When asked they repeatedly lied to my face and denied removing it. Not only this, but they misdiagnosed saying it will need $1100 for new tie rod. Took my vehicle to another shop where it passed, just needing lights replaced.

They got all the work done that my car needed- which is good. However, the communication is not there. I brought my car in on a Wednesday morning and was told it would take about 4-5 hours. I called back in the afternoon for an update and they said it should be ready by the time they close. I never received an update at all and tried to call back again close to closing time but no one ever answered. I didn’t end up getting my car until the following afternoon. I completely understand that delays can happen and deadlines might need to be pushed back. But I would at least appreciate a call letting me know what is going on.

Made an appointment to get a sway bar link ( I don't even pretend to know what that is) so my vehicle could pass inspection. Brought it in on Thursday evening and was immediately told to come back first thing Friday morning which I did. I was quoted a price of $610. When I questioned high price ( I may not know what the part was but I did research how much it should cost) I was then told maybe it could be done for around $500. This still seemed unusually high, so I declined the service. I called my mechanic (on his vacation) and asked if this sounded right. He said NO, and sent me to another shop and explained what I needed. Long story short - I got two sway bar links (who knew), my tires rotated, oil check and oh yeah a new inspection sticker ... for just under $400. Now I'm not here to bash the workers especially since I know very little when it comes to repairing any vehicle, I'm sure this what they are trained to do. I mean it is a business I get it. But what I really Hate is the attempt to deliberately take advantage of a customer who appears to be an easy target. To everyone else out there who may know even less than I do when it comes to auto repair all I can say is.....Do Your Research!

Was having the literal worst day of my life today… (well among other days but this one didn’t help…sent me actually) when I got a flat tire on a Sunday and I was far away from home. The tow truck was expected to come in an hour and it was close to 8 million degrees out, and I had a difficult time finding a shop to accommodate me. I called and spoke to Chris at Pep Boys and he stated that he could get Me right in as soon as I arrived. Upon arrival he was outside, waiting for me and mounted my tire very quickly. He was very nice and very accommodating. Definitely made my day!!!! 10/10 recommend!!!

Really glad I took a chance and opted for Pep Boys on Elmwood! My brakes were awful and I needed them done same day. I made a 2:30pm appointment and they were done under an hour and a half. Joseph at the front desk was so nice to work with and helpful. He helped me understand when the front axle will need servicing too. I got a great price and my brakes are good as new. Definitely won my trust and I will be a returning customer!

Horrible experience at Elmwood Avenue Buffalo NY location. I called inquiring about getting a trailer hitch put on my SUV for purposes of towing a jetski. Manager booked me for following day at 4:30, assured the parts were at his store. I changed my job hours to get there the following day for the installation, and upon arrival, they informed me that the part was not there. Nobody called me to inform me of this beforehand. Then they go on the computer and discover it'll be 2 more days for the part to arrive. After an hour of hemming and hawing, they miraculously found the part that could be delivered the following day. However, the manager made me pay upfront for this part and the service. I questioned that because I did not have to pay upfront the first time around. Anyways, I do pay it up front because they absolutely promised the job would be done the following day. Once again, I do not get a call from the store. I decided to call them before I drove over for the installation, and of course, they once again inform me that the part has not arrived (But nobody called me). They promised once again that the part would arrive the following day and they would call me when it did arrive. And, once again, I get no phone call. So I wait half the day and call them. They claim the part did arrive and told me to bring my car in for service in 2 hours (4:00 on a Saturday). I hung up, and after discussing the entire issue with family, I cancelled the job because I just did not trust them. I honestly felt that I would show up again, and for whatever reason, they would not be able to do the job. I could not trust them at all. The worst part is that they refuse to reimburse me for the trailer hitch parts and the service they forced me to pay upfront. I said I cancelled because of their poor customer service, but they still refuse to pay me the $350 they made me pay upfront for a job they did not do.

Very satisfied! I forgot to have my car inspected by the end of the month but it was very easy to make an appointment for an inspection the following day. When I arrived I was checked in quickly and the waiting area was comfortable. My car was finished and I was out the door within 45 minutes, which i was very pleased with given my appointment was on a Saturday morning.
