I was really excited to golf here, but the experience was unfortunately ruined by the starter (an older gentleman, around 6 feet tall) who was extremely rude and followed us around as if we were children, watching our every move. This all stemmed from us accidentally missing the sign indicating that play should start on hole 10—something he didn’t mention to us until after we had already begun. We had trouble with our cart and I asked if it may be because of the hill and he snapped saying “Absolutely not! It is due to the GPS” as if I said something outlandish. Overall, extremely rude and completely unprofessional. Someone like that makes the experience not worth it.

I've had four unfriendly occurances with the staff, I think there are some racial issues there, management has been notified but nothing has never been settled regarding my concerns,

Went to a golf tournament put on by Black market bar and grill. Everything was so clean and well managed. A very nice golf course with very friendly staff.

Im going to start off saying the course itself is very nice. And i it been on my list to play a long time because of the history of the course. But the pace of play was horrible on the 1st tee we have not even made it out of the carts and there was two more groups behind us waiting to tee off. The group in front of us was play at such a slow rate that we was having to wait 10 to 15 mins just to tee off on every hole. We was so stacked up on the tee boxes that at one point my daughter who was beside the green of short par 4 got hit in the back of the neck by the group behind us tee shot. I payed over 200 dollars for me and my daughter to play a nice round of golf together and for my wife to watch us play and could not even enjoy a course that has been on my bucket list to play. Like I said in the beginning the course is very nice but the experience that we had today i probably won't be back.

Nice little Golf Course, but you better be ready to walk them hills! It's Cartpath Only All the Time!!! Built on a hillside mostly so just get that in your head and be ready!!! Good luck in the Summertime!!!!!. Nice Birmingham Views

Staff was very friendly and helpful! Me and wife had a fun range/putting date for $15(60ish balls). Granted, I haven’t played the course yet but everything was very well maintained.

Had booked a tee time for 2 for 8:20 today, but colleague had to bail due to back injury from playing the past Saturday. The guys in the pro shop were really cool about it and asked if I wanted to play a little earlier since I arrived around 7 with another single. Ended up having a great day! My playing partner was a new member to HPGC and we played a quick 18 in right about 3 hours. I hadn’t played there in over 20 years and forgot how much I liked this course. It was well manicured minus a multitude of divots that players didn’t repair. I fixed quite a few today and appreciated meeting a new playing partner. I will definitely be returning and now being able to remember the course, will enjoy it more. 4 out of 5 only due to divots, but greens were well maintained.

I’m just going to be honest with this review. For the pricing here they will treat you like you are dirt. The old fart starting people at the first tee treats you like he’s paying for your game and drinks. You sir need an attitude check. We are all relatively new golfers with maybe 4-5 rounds under our belt. In my 44 years on this earth I have never been able to tell someone is a miserable soul in such little time. The greens and fairways are beautifully kept but the issue here is that it feels like a speed golf tournament. We get alerted that we are slowing down play for other golfers to the point where we ending up just picking up our balls on 2 of holes because they obviously wanted to rush us out of the fairway. Upon doing that we run right into the back of another group where we discover that everyone is backed up because this place is so money hungry that they stack the tee times so close to each other that it ruins everyone’s play time. I know many people take this seriously but guys let’s try to remember it’s a game where you knock a ball away from you just to chase it down again.

The upside: very playable course that's shorter than most which offsets the CPO in my opinion. Course was well manicured and maintained given the beating it takes. Greens were pretty quick which can be good or bad. Didn't necessarily hold approach shots well. The downside: it definitely feels rushed. You're always sandwiched in between groups with marshals on patrol. Got hit into a few times. The biggest downside is the price $104. This is not a $100 course. You can drive a few minutes up or down the road and play an equal or better course for $60-80. Overall, not worth the cost. Won't come back unless prices come down or it's a special occasion with friends.

Course is beautiful and well kept (besides the tee boxes). My issue is cart path only for almost $90, spent most of the day hiking up hills... it's less impressive that the course is so well kept being that no carts are allowed to touch the grass. Course is very narrow and everything is very close together, I've never heard so many 'fore's in my life - almost got hit at least 5 times. We got paired with another duo which was fine but everything felt extremely rushed and yet it still took nearly 4 hours to play 9 holes. Better off saving your money unless you're into walking the course.

Highland Park Golf is a hidden treasure in the city of Birmingham! With only 5800 yds total, this course is designed for the beginner up to the scratch golfer with 3 separate tee boxes. The conditions are what you would expect at the finest of private country clubs and amenities abound! Come play a round and see for yourself how Birmingham's best kept secret is nestled right in the heart of the city!

From the time that you enter the golf course until the time you leave it is an incredible experience. It begins when you enter the clubhouse and are greeted my the friendly golf staff then the starters. Then your round begins where you will play on plush fairways and putt on quick true running greens. You will have have two amazing views of the city of Birmingham on 5 and 17. Along the way you will be greeted by the friendly cart girls for snacks and refreshments. Let’s not forget the grill, you can make a quick stop at the turn for good ol hotdog or a quick sandwhich or as you end the and have a beer and I would highly recommend the cheeseburger. Let’s not forget about the cart boys they are pretty good to

The course conditions and layout are fantastic. The cart path only isn’t that bad at all since the course is narrow and accessible, it’s nothing like CPO at something like the RTJ courses. It didn’t make a difference at all on timing for me. The carts have a lot of features and the cart girl came around frequently.

Awesome layout course! As a newer golfer who primarily plays with a much lower handicap golfer, it's fun and challenging for both of us to enjoy. Friendly staff happy to see you year round!

This course is well maintained with great fairways and beautiful greens. The layout offers a great mix of challenge and playability for all skill levels. Staff were friendly and professional, and the clubhouse was clean and welcoming!!

The best course in Birmingham. Well kept, friendly staff, good food, good fun, You literally forget you're in Birmingham once you are on the course. The best staff in golf, specially the black guy that greats everyone, he's the best ??

This course has a real charm about it. It’s not the longest course you’ll ever play but it’s still challenging. The greens are superb & there are some beautiful views. If you’re in Birmingham check this gem out.

I have played this course several times over the past few years and it is always in great condition! The staff has always been very professional and helpful with anything I might have needed. The food is outstanding and so is the service. I’ve gone by the course just to have lunch because it’s so good. I definitely recommend trying Highland Park Golf Course on your next golfing adventure. Thanks, Keith

Highland Park Golf course is absolutely one of the best golf courses in Birmingham. Greens roll true, very friendly staff, and the burger from James in the grill is a 10/10. Come check it out you won’t regret it!

Course condition was great. The bad: price is not worth playing. Cart path only so you might as well walk bc you will be hiking up and down hills. They heard you in like cattle rushing you to play very fast wanting under 4 hour rounds with it being cart path only. We had 4 players for 9 and 3 for back 9. Had to wait on tee box for group in front of us. We played in 4 hrs 4 minutes and we kept getting a hurry message that we were 14 minutes behind. Will never come and play again. Greens were very inconsistent. Very bad value for the experience. Starter was very rude and felt rushed all day.

Used to be a great player experience but now Troon has gotten greedy and ruin it for golfers. Hiked up the price and now has front nine back nine tee times which makes play worse for you on the turn. Their objective is to have to use the concession while waiting to tee off for your 2nd nine. Slow play on the course is purposefully so the beverage cart can take your money while waiting on your next shot. Troon’s creed has ruined the player experience

Beautiful traditional golf course, which was fun to play. It is cart path only, so the fairways are in great shape. Greens were fast but a LOT of ball marks even with the signage to repair them. Had a little trouble navigating the course. Tee markers are hard to see, and they need better signage as to the direction and location of the next tee box. I would have happily have paid a little more in greens fees to have had a little better customer service. Some bag attendants at the bag drop would be nice for folks that have never played there. You have to buy range balls in the shop, but no one said anything about that even though I specifically asked where the practice range was. Went all the way to the range and had to go back for balls! Could definitely be a 5 star experience with a little more attention to details and customers. But we enjoyed playing there and would definitely play there again.

A fantastically fun layout with superb conditions in the heart of Birmingham. I can't recommend this place enough if you're looking for a break from the tricked out and overpriced RTJ Trail. As good as those are, this is a golf course the way it's meant to be.

-Immaculate course conditions for a public course. Fairways and greens were in great shape. Tee boxes were so-so, probably because the course is overbooked/overplayed -Way too expensive for a public course that is always cart path only and does not have a walking rate. $65 to walk a public course on a Friday at 3pm is absurd. -Way too packed. Again, I paid $65 to walk at 3pm only to be constantly sandwiched between what seemed to be an endless stream of twosomes. Would have been better if they increased the intervals between tee times and paired out groups. I stood there waiting on every shot that wasn’t a putt. Front 9 was okay but had a typical compact, municipal course feel. Back 9 was short but had the gems of the course. Holes 1-3 were boring warm up holes. Typical municipal-type holes where you should play it safe and straight. Narrow, No features, No true hazards. Hole 4 was the first truly drivable hole. Open downhill drive followed by a significant uphill approach over muck. Hole 5 was a good looking long par 3 that forced you to hit over water onto the huge green. Clearing the water likely means getting on green from your tee shot, but if on the opposite side of the green, will likely mean you will still 3-putt for a bogey. Holes 6 and 7 were maybe the most difficult, punishing slicers with a creek along the entire right side of the fairways. Hole 6 forces a tight, uphill approach, made more difficult with a strange bend and partially obstructive trees, onto a 2 tier green. Hole 7 forces an approach shot onto the island green with hazards and thick rough all around where your balls will never be found. 8 was a nondescript long par 5 where you just need to hit your tee shot either short and straight under 200 yards to stay on the flat part of the fairway or if you clear 220, there’s wide open fairway. The second shot becomes a nice no stress shot onto a wide open fairway. Hole 9 allows for a wide open drive onto an uphill approach. Easy, no stress par 4. Unless you can’t handle the pressure of dozens of people on the driving watching you finish out. Hole 10, one of the gems, allowed for a wide open crushing drive but then forced a precise approach onto an island green. My second favorite. Hole 11 was a nondescript long par 3. Hole 12. Nondescript narrow par 5. Don’t slice right onto the hill with roughs that eat up balls. Found 5 when I searched for mine. Hole 13 was as a super short par 3 filler. Hole 14 was an uphill par 4. Distance says you can drive it. Slope says $100 you won’t. Hole 15 is THE drivable par 4. 265 yards to the edge of the green but down a significantly steep down hill. I hit right next to the left bunker for an up and down birdie. Hole 16 was a typical completely uphill pain of a hole. Stay left on the approach as the backside hills and bunker are no fun. Hole 17 was just a nondescript 100y par 3 filler before you reach the gem of the course on 18. Hole 18, the flagship hole, had the most immaculate view. Teeing from an overlook onto the fairway over water, with the clubhouse to the far left, and a view of Birmingham hills and hillside houses in the distance to the right. You’re driving downhill over water, to a relatively open fairway followed by an approach shot onto an uphill green that may be blocked a bunker impeding your view. Perfect hole to end on. Great view. Challenging enough but not too challenging as to leave you with a bad taste leaving the last hole. Great in-town course but flow was terribly managed and price was absurd for a walking, twighlight tee time. Reduce the number of tee times to space out groups and provide some discounts for twilight walkers and I’d probably visit this course often.

This incredibly compact gem hidden on the northeast edge of downtown Bham is in perfect shape. But first, a petty complaint: zero carts allowed on fairways and they’re gps monitored to slow down to infant crawl speed if you go beyond 8-10ft off the cart path. I understand this helps play into a major component for why the fairways are in such immaculate shape and, with the heavy amount of players on this public course, the fairways would be in rough shape if they didn’t forbid fairway travel. But still!! ?. All of the staff were extremely accommodating and helpful. Nicole, the snack cart lady, was very helpful and a much needed lighthearted encounter. It’s a short course even from the back #1 tee but very precise tee shot placement is needed on nearly every hole. I’d definitely play again.

Make sure you put this course on your list when in Birmingham. It’s a challenge, it plays fast, it’s easy on the wallet, and it’s just plain fun. Oh, and great views of the city.

Enjoyable course. Short, but tight in some places. I’ve played in cold weather as well as the heat of summer and the greens are well manicured. I’ve also played in rainy conditions and the course drains well. Very few sitting puddles. The workers are all friendly and helpful. Good range and putting/chipping greens for practice. I haven’t tried any food or beverages, but the drink cart is always making the rounds. Overall solid course!
