Honest and upfront. I felt the overall experience was positive, with my car issues being resolved quicker than expected, and at a cost that was affordable and service most memorable.
I am so very impressed with the staff at Check's Muffler Center. I was in a somewhat desperate situation given that I was traveling hours away from home when my little compact automobile started sounding like a diesel truck at speeds below 35mph and then the engine quit twice, once when parking and again when pulling away from the parking spot. I know how challenging it can be to get a same-day appointment with a mechanic, especially if this was something serious, and that proved true as Check's Muffler Center was the 8th garage I'd contacted!
I was quite worried to risk driving home after my meetings especially because one of the mechanics that could not service my vehicle same-day suggested it could be a piston problem and that continuing to drive in that state could result in bad consequences. "Derek" at Check's received my call and initially doesn't think they'd be able to help that day either, but he was very gracious and have me the names and phone numbers of FIVE other garages, three of which I hadn't already tried!
Just as we were about to end the call, he got an idea and graciously and a little excitedly asked if I'd be willing to hold a moment because he wanted to check about another mechanic they work with. It turns out they were able to get the staffing needed after all! I had already been feeling like Check's had gone above and beyond by pricing me with more mechanics to call, but then they went and worked it out at they could take care of my little car after all!
There was another gentleman at the reception desk whom was kind and polite, but I failed to recall his name, and then a fellow named "Tony" offered to drive me to my next appointment that day rather than me having to walk or call a cab!
They got my car in better working order so I was safe to drive home and charged me less than expected. I was in a situation that would have made it easy for them to take advantage, but they didn't. Check's Muffler Center absolutely secured my trust and gratitude, so I strongly recommend them.
Easy to schedule an appointment. Very friendly and honest. Great mechanics found the issue My car was having. I fixed it right away. Also identified some things I might want to keep an eye on. Definitely will be my go-to mechanics from now on.
Checks Muffler Center and Automotive Repair is truly one of the best auto repair facilities in the have ever dealt with. I have a 2024 Ford F350 Dually and had a leaking air lift system which I used when hauling my 43 foot 5th Wheel. I called last Friday to get my truck looked at as soon as possible as we’ll be hitting the road in a couple of weeks. They fit me in today and quickly identified one of my air lines had melted. They had me in my way in less than 2 hours.

I had the resonators removed on my exhaust on my truck. All the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. I had t o wait there while they worked on it. They answered all my questions and were very easy to talk to. They did an amazing job and I definitely recommend them for service.
Great place took our truck back in for bad thermostat that was replaced couple months prior and they fixed at no charge per warranty which was awesome. Also asked them same day while they had it to put new tires on it if they had time , and even short handed that day because of snow they still had it done by end of day. Wonderful people. My exhaust rusted out the day before leaving for a trip and I needed it fixed asap. Called in right before close to see if they could get me in the next day and they said they would do their best. I dropped my car off that night and by 10 am the next day, they had it fixed. The price was extremely reasonable and I will be back again the next time I need work done.
They replaced my breaks and had to disable my parking break. They left chunks of metal in my breaks and it made an extremely loud clunking sound that I had checked by a different mechanic. Attention to detail just was not there for me at all. When I first arrived they had my make and model and the services I wanted written down incorrectly. They also quoted me a bunch of other services at outrageous prices (most were not necessarily) I took my vehicle to River West Motorwerks and they were able to fix my breaks and quoted me services that were actually needed at reasonable prices.
Check's made some very needed repairs to my car. They took the time to properly diagnose the problems and kept the final price down. Repairs were completed expediently, and they even beat the original estimate.
The folks at Checks are the very best! They are thorough, professional and have excellent customer service. We cannot thank them enough for keeping our family vehicles in great shape. Thank you Checks!!
I had an exhaust leak that made my car sound like a tractor. I called Check's Muffler and they offered me to stop in instantly. Once the checked it over they gave me options and stated they had all items in stock. They gave me a ride back to my work and a short time later they called and it was completed. I highly recommend them for your service needs.
Checks Muffler Center is a great place to bring your car for maintenance or repairs. It has friendly people that go the extra mile for you, explaining the work and costs accurately. They are fast and efficient. We have gone there for many years.
It is becoming considerably difficult to trust your auto mechanic, it seems the more you take your vehicle to them the less they commit to doing a good and fair service. This has never been the case at Check's, and that is uncommon excellent news to come by. I completely trust Bill Boyer and his consistently strategic effort to get the job done. The gentlemen there have communicated very thoroughly with me on my car’s care and when things can be put off and when things have to be taken care of right away. Very personable people and reasonably priced place! Fixed my brakes same day as drop off and when I got my vehicle back I immediately noticed the smoothness in my braking. Quality work and good people that even let me know that I had another mechanical issue that’s going to need replacing in the next couple of months! Really was the best first impression I’ve got from an automotive shop since I have lived in Stevens Point!

Hard to find a good trust worthy car repair place in town. Been going to this place for many years. I have been able to trust them with most things. I sometimes don’t feel like the full truth is being told or an over repair is always being pushed but stayed with them for a long time through it all. My last service became the most untrusted because my front lights had their screws removed and never placed back in. They noticed my lights didn’t line up but had no willingness to adjust them for me (or knowledge). And when I got home and adjusted my lights myself I found a red rag left in the engine. I’m human my brain forgets to do things also, but when you run a business a true sorry, a discounted price, and a honest we will do better next time should be put into place. None of that was received. All car places over price. It’s a solid sadness any where. Other then this I do like companies that overlook your whole vehicle and are honest with true needed repairs.
Highly recommend Check’s if you’re in the Stevens Point area. They were fast, friendly, efficient, honest and professional. What I thought was originally a bad wheel bearing turned out to be my brakes. I thought this would take longer but they finished before the day was over. They drove me back and forth to pick up my car after it was done without any questions. Definitely worth the price for the great quality of service.
My daughter goes to college up in Point. Said her brakes were making funny noises. I wasn’t familiar with any service repair place so I googled and read reviews about Checks repair. They sounded good and wanted to give them a try. I called on Monday, and could get her car in on Wednesday. They were very helpful and nice over the phone and even offered to give her a ride back to her house if she needed one. They called and gave me an estimate Tuesday night and Wednesday they fixed the car. Good price, convenient and very nice. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for car repair. I broke down on a Wednesday around 3:30. I went to Check's and they were able to get it towed that same day and look at it the very next morning. I got a call right away Thursday morning explaining I had broken a control arm and the other side was right behind it. I gave my okay to fix it and they had it done the same day! Absolutely amazing customer service and I can't believe how fast they were able to get my vehicle back to me. I will for sure be back with my other car maintenance needs. The service given to me today by Bill and his staff was second to none in the muffler shop industry. I stopped by to have him check the noise from the muffler. They took a look underneath and explained the issue. Gave me a quote and asked if I wanted it done today. My reply was 'yes' and within a reasonable amount of time it was done. I was VERY impressed and would recommend this business to anyone. From the price, to the service and their expertise made the experience excellent!
I was unsure of the issue with my car. They informed me that they would need to check to see if it were among a rash of part thefts in the area. They did this quickly and free of charge, taking pictures for the police report. They explained all my options, worked very well with me and my insurance company. They were polite, courteous, and professional at all times. I plan to continue using their service and would highly recommend it for others.

I never feel pressured to make a repair early, I feel they are honest with what’s happening. They explain things so I understand and have shown me exactly what and where they fixing things. I’m visiting from out of town, and my muffler pipe broke on the drive to town. Suddenly my car sounds like a tank. It’s the day before Thanksgiving, and the staff at the shop we’re busy and getting ready for the holiday. I didn’t have an appointment, I just came to the shop hoping that I could get something done for the car. Chris was working the desk, and immediately helped me. He and the other staff were very understanding, gave me a quote, and nearly immediately got my car up on the lift to make the repair. The job came in under the estimate, And I couldn’t of been happier with the work and the service. While I was waiting, I observed the staff waiting on several of the customers as well as a delivery man. They are incredibly kind to everybody, and took time to chat a bit. In summary, the shop helped me out on a busy day just before a holiday, and they treated me like a friend. They gave me a great price, and they did the work right there while I waited rather than make me wait over the holiday. It’s clear that they treat everybody in the shop like this, and I think they have a great business model of treating others as they would want to be treated Dash kindly, quickly, fairly...
Overall very satisfied. Friendly people. I was super bummed today that I surprise needed my exhaust fixed and, having financial difficulties, need my parents help. Those working were sympathetic and kinda helped put me at ease. Super appreciated since my day was not off to a great start. I was able to get in quickly and even happier to find out my muffler was under lifetime warranty so I only paid for labor. A more pleasant surprise. Would highly recommend.
It's a shame new owner treats people this way. Labor more than doubled from 3 1/2 years ago. Didn't even bother to deburr tailpipe ends. Will NOT return. Over-exaggerates issues, was told twice that my truck is very rusty underneath and that frame supports were rotting. Even told my wife the same thing when she stopped to pay for it. I examined and only found the one thin metal cross brace rusting away that I have been meaning to change but haven't gotten around to it yet. Frame is fine. Talks down to people with older vehicles, tried to make it sound like my truck wasn't worth repairing, but had no issue charging $500 to replace 2 tailpipes. I guess they should be thankful for jobs and not everyone can afford 60k for a new vehicle! If they break something on your vehicle they don't even the courtesy to tell you they just leave the part sitting on floor. Lied about repairs needed, Given estimate to reseal both exhaust manifolds due to leaking which is amazing because I just replaced one of them a few months ago and I just double checked to make sure it is not leaking and imagine that, no it's fine. So one side is leaking. Apparently drained both my batteries while being repaired as vehicle was stone-dead when I picked it up and didn't bother charging them. This truck sits for weeks at a time and starts every time. Just plain bad business, gives mechanics/technicians a bad name!
I just had some basic work done here today. Check's was very inviting when I spoke with them on the phone, and that friendliness continued into the shop itself. They were very busy, but the engineers were quick to get work done. I asked them to check the brakes, and they offered that complimentary. Afterwards, they gave me clear options with reasonable prices--even going so far as to tell me what it would cost if they couldn't salvage parts of the vehicle, but reassuring me that they would do whatever they could to make it work for me. I would definitely get service from them again!
