Avoid VA Auto Service of Fairfax – Dishonest, Overpriced, and Predatory Practices My experience with VA Auto Service of Fairfax has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I would strongly recommend that anyone considering their services look elsewhere. They took complete advantage of my situation while I was serving overseas, leaving my wife stranded and our family with a massive, unapproved bill. Here is a summary of the issues we faced: Unauthorized Repairs and Overcharging My wife brought the car in after our daughter hit a curb. The initial process with the insurance company and the adjuster seemed fine. I explicitly texted the garage and the adjuster confirmed with them that no work was to be done without insurance approval and my authorization. Despite these clear instructions, VA Auto Service performed thousands of dollars of "supplemental" work and used parts that were explicitly not the ones recommended by our insurance company. The insurance adjuster informed me that the shop charged nearly double the industry standard for labor and used different parts to inflate the bill. They proceeded without anyone's approval—not the insurer's, not mine—and then expected us to foot the bill. Predatory Tactics and Bullying Because I was overseas and my wife needed the car for daily life, they knew we were in a vulnerable position. While I was attempting to coordinate the insurance company's review of the unauthorized charges, the garage began aggressive collection tactics. I received texts demanding immediate payment to get "their money," threatening to start charging daily storage fees. Incredibly, another employee contradicted this by assuring me as a "family business" they had plenty of parking and no storage fees would apply. They are clearly not on the same page, creating confusion and massive stress. We felt forced to pay the extra $2,000 just to release our vehicle. New Damage and Evasive Customer Service To make a terrible situation worse, my wife noticed a significant new scratch on the passenger side door when she picked up the car that was not there before drop-off. When I inquired, they immediately claimed their intake photos proved the scratch was preexisting. I asked to see these photos. They sent me every single angle of the car except the passenger side door. When I pointed this out and asked specifically for a passenger-side view upon intake, they sent me a photo taken after all the repairs and new tires were installed. They promised their "boss" would provide the original intake photo days later, but they have since gone silent and I have received nothing. This business is dishonest, overpriced, unprofessional, and takes advantage of customers in difficult situations. Do yourself a favor and find a reputable shop.

Got my oil change, brake pad and rotor replacement, and suspension replacement done here. Very helpful and friendly staff, they are transparent with their work and let you see exactly what they’re doing, and don’t try to rip you off.

We’ve been with Tony for at least 8 years, and today I was calling to get a quote for my gf’s car. The guy who answered the phone acted like he couldn’t be bothered, he asked us to bring our car in, and I said I would rather get a quote first. There on after he was sighing repeatedly and interrupting, as rude as it gets. It’s honestly shocking this is how they treat a loyal customer

Refused to only replace brake pads on my 2023 car, said they would only do it if I paid the additional $1500 for the rotors. Greedy people get honest reviews. NO THANKS....

UPDATE: Talked with Tony (Owner) and a new employee up front had made a mistake with the quote. What I don't understand is... clerk and manager was communicating prices going in and out from the workshop door. It would be great if someone exeperienced in pricing/services is always up front. Old Post: Folks I cannot stress this enough but ALWAYS get a second quote/estimate from a different mechanic (trustworthy). Went for a battery change and they quoted me $660! Just for the battery replacement along with labor of 2 hrs! A simple battery change does not take longer than 30 min labor. Ridiculous! Had to argue with the clerk up front for such ludicrous quote and walked out with $349 in payment.

My recent experience at Va auto service, was odd. First the guy at the front desk Eric is very nice. I came in with a Friends car and they have brought their car in several times. Eric explained they were busy and it would be a few hours. Later i get a text from someone with a laundry list of things from coolant to brake fluid. They seemed pushy about selling me more. So I called and Eric answers, and explain its not my car, and I can not afford all this other stuff. At that same time a text again comes in while on the phone with Eric. So I think they got someone else selling stuff and being pushy. With Eric trying to help the customers. News flash I run a business. The guy I see in the office is the only person who should be calling or texting. You got a very friendly and knowledgeable guy up front. He seems more than capable, and a very relatable guy. If I need anything I expect to hear from him. He seems honest. I would prefer dealing with him, without someone else being involved. From what I seen the mechanics are great, and do a good job. Eric is the kind of guy I want as the face of my company. Let him be the face of the company, let him talk to the customers. He is relatable, from Montana. Well traveled and treats everyone the same. Thats hard to find. A rare person. He later explained to me why certain things were needed. I hear alot of good things about the owner I believe he is Tony. So with good mechanics, and Eric up front, why do they have someone else trying to push things? Is it just bad communication, not telling Eric what needs done? Is the mechanic texting customers? Why is customer information going to anyone beyond the guy up front or the owners office?

I came in with my husband's car, and was very impressed. Been in a couple times over a few years. Tony obviously trys to bring the best people to his shop and it shows. This time his customer service was better than before. Eric is new, and very knowledgeable. Didn't mind me asking alot of questions. He got our car right in, and made me feel welcome. Many shops around here leave alot to be desired, and do not feel welcoming. But Va auto service from start to finish is the best I have seen.

My family and I have trusted VA Auto Service in Burke for many years with multiple vehicles, and Tony—the owner—has consistently delivered exceptional service. He recently completed another repair for us, and as always, his customer-first attitude truly stands out. Tony only recommends repairs that are genuinely needed and provides helpful insights on future maintenance without any high-pressure upselling. His honesty, professionalism, and commitment to customer satisfaction set him apart from other service centers. I wholeheartedly recommend VA Auto Service to anyone looking for reliable, fair, and friendly automotive care.

Save your time and go to Burke Auto Service Experts. I made a $630 mistake by going to the cheaper place. I came for a TPMS Replacement in all four tires. I was charged $640 for parts and labor. Upon receiving my truck back, the warning light on the dash was still was still on. I asked the owner and he told me you need to take it to a dealership to fix completely. I did just that and was quoted $630 to fix the issues they started. Image was taken in the parking lot and they would not re-look at my truck.

I've been going there for over three years now. Tony has a great team of certified professional with friendly customer service offering competitive prices. It is a reliable place to go back.

Tony and his team are amazing. Rich and Carlos explained the issues to me in detail. I’m a tough customer and got my issues taken care of. Thank you!

I had a slow leak in one of my tires, not from the area and had to stop by real quick. They took me in within 30 minutes plugged the hole and I was back on the road. Couldn’t express my appreciation anymore for their efficiency and customer service. Thank you very much.

Update: I live in the neighborhood so they’re very convenient to drop off and I have come here a number of times in the last 2 years for all of our cars. While these guys do a great job fixing any serious problem with your car, they also will ALWAYS try to sell you on fixing more things so you keep having to come back and pay more. I became suspicious that I was paying for way more work than I needed to on our cars time after time and a few times when I didn’t authorize the work (and watching my credit card build because of all these so called issues was painful), so the last three times they did this I actually went to other mechanics in the area afterwards, without telling them the source, to ask about those particular issues being a problem and a ‘serious immediate safety issue’ as VA Auto Service claimed. All three times the other mechanics said no there’s no problem and that “someone is trying to mislead you”. That dishonesty for a neighborhood business really sucks. So I dropped to 3 stars which again is for the good work that they do on your car when you have a serious issue (which on one car they fixed an issue that others couldn’t so for that reason I’ll leave the 3 stars). I was told many of the guys there worked for dealerships so yes they really know their stuff, but they also try to get you to think you need to come back again and again just like dealerships are notorious for doing. I wouldn’t say don’t go there, just take “future repairs” they mention with a grain of salt and write on the paperwork at drop off NOT to do any work at all without your approval. Original post: I’m not sure how I didn’t know about them before but I sure am glad I know about them now. Fast and efficient and really nice guys!

I had booked an oil change and safety inspection a week ago at 9:30 AM; today I arrived 15 minutes earlier and a new manager just told me that I was gonna take 2 hours because it was a first to come first to serve. What a waste of time and lack of seriousness!! Don’t recommend it at all.

First time Subaru Outback oil change. Quick, courteous and fair priced! Will definitely avail their services again.

I took in my Honda odyssey in because it was making a strange noise. They brought the car into the garage and after 3-4 minutes, they called me in to identify the noise as we drove to a stoplight and back (5 minutes). They told me it “could” be a problem with the timing belt; and charged me $177 for “diagnostics.” They didn’t bother to look under the car or do a thorough diagnostic with computerized results (an actual diagnostic would take 30-60 minutes). They just listened to a noise and make a best guess. Charged $177 for under 10 minutes of “work” and a “could be” diagnosis (and to provide me with an estimate of $1753).

My husband and I took our 2010 Honda Civic up here for an inspection and to check the ac as it wasn’t blowing cool air. We have taken our cars up here before and haven’t had problems. However, this time was very different. After dropping the car off, we got sent an estimate for $3,700 for a variety of things like flushing fluids, replacing breaks, oil change, fixing the AC and we said we wanted to get a second opinion. Then we got sent another estimate for only new front breaks, oil change, and AC recovery recharge for $1,900. We told them again, we were going to take it for a second opinion because that seemed high in price and we didn’t know if we wanted to put that much money into an old back up car. We go to pick the car up and we’re sent an invoice for the AC and an oil change for over $300. When we got there, we were told they already did the oil change and work on the AC before sending us the original estimate, which makes no sense. So without our consent, they did the work and then changed us for it. We took the car to another shop in Annandale and it was less than $700 to relapse the front breaks….so about $1,000 less than VA Auto Service of Fairfax. Another thing is the price for the labor on changing the breaks actually went up on the second invoice after taking the other stuff off the first invoice. So I don’t know if they are just throwing numbers out there, but it was very inconsistent. There is nothing worse than feeling like you are getting ripped off and taken advantage of when you don’t know much about cars. I highly recommend staying away from this place if you don’t want to get overcharged for work on your cars.

Another shop told me I needed new brake calipers, and I was suspicious that wasn't the case. So I brought my car here, and they told me the calipers were fine. Nice to avoid unnecessary repairs with an honest shop. Tony (the owner) always takes the time to explain what needs to be repaired, what may need work soon, and what's fine for now. They do good work and get it done fast. Thanks to this shop, I've been able to keep my old car running at a reasonable cost.

I took my car to this repair shop and I can’t believe how quickly they diagnosed the problem and called me with an estimate. The owner and other service men were professional, and kind and really took the time to explain what happened and possible cause. I appreciate their work and I trust them. I highly recommend this repair shop and the people who work there. I believe you can count on them not to rip you off!!

Between two cars in our family, we've had everything from an oil change to an exhaust system repair, to a new rear main seal, to new tires and brakes, and we've been very happy with the service every time. Both their customer service and the quality of their work have been excellent. This is definitely a place we'll keep bringing our cars back to. Very satisfied.

Thank you for the excellent customer service! Took my 2012 Rogue here for the first time a few weeks ago for a State/emissions inspection. Everyone I interacted with, on the phone and at the shop, was very kind. Will definitely be bringing my vehicle here again!

PLEASE READ BEFORE USING THIS GARAGE!! I had taken my vehicles to this place for years, but I recently lost all faith and trust in this repair shop. Took a vehicle in for an inspection and they recommended changing the serpentine belt. Since it was the original belt and at 90,000 miles, it made perfect sense it needed replaced. However, after replacing the belt the AC suddenly didn’t work. They said the compressor failed. I said it is ironic the compressor, which is directly next to the belt, happen to fail in the 3 hours it was at the shop. Never had any problem with the AC and it just suddenly broke at the same time people were working around that area. What really ticked me off is the fact they did not understand that this could have been an accident from one of the workers. I found it very ironic that a part broke in the same area they were working. After confronting them, they have false information to me about what happened. They would change their story several times. It’s sad a place like this pulsing own up to their mistake. I will never use this place again and I really hope someone reads this and knows how this place will rip you off. Trust me when I say this will try and get more money from you. Please do not let this shop repair your vehicle.

Great service!! The guy at the front was nice, professional, and super helpful! Not one of those places that pressures car-newbies to get expensive services they don't need. Very fast, affordable, and convenient since they do so many services in one place! I asked for an air filter replacement towards the end of the day, and they didn't have one in stock, so someone drove to another place off site to grab some for no extra charge!! I asked them to do like 5 things including the off site filters, and I was in and out in an hour 15! I'll be coming back here ❤

Wow! John and the service techs were great! I came here about a week ago just a little before 4 and was put off by the reception. The hours aren’t the same as what’s posted on google so that’s what caused the confusion but I am SO GLAD I came back and gave this place another try. I’ve never been here before. They got me in for an oil change, fixed my headlight, and the tire pressure monitoring sensor. It was about 40 minutes overall. Clear recommendations without overselling. Honest and clear cut. Kudos to these guys! Tip - call them and give them a shot. There’s no way to schedule online, on an app, or email but they’re an auto shop -excelling at what they do so even though there aren’t any tech perks to making an appointment, it was well worth it.

Update: December 2019 Great service and work done on my car being inspected. Provided timely updates and checked areas I asked for. Excellent as always. Update: May 2019 I am a loyal customer to this shop because they are flexible, helpful, and reasonably priced. I noticed a recent addition to the front office who has freed up the owner and he is great! The service here is fantastic and I've referred multiple persons here...who have also stated they like the place. Make sure to view their website and get a coupon (they honor them unlike another place that I won't mention). Overall, a great place. November 2018, I took my 2011 HONDA CR-V to this auto shop on a Saturday morning with only a few hours notice. The owner is a fantastic businessman who genuinely cares about his customers. To wit, he noticed that my previous review of 3/5 stars was the only non-5 review he has received. It was a fair appraisal of service at that time, but things have improved. In early November 2018, my 2011 HONDA CRV's A-1 indicator light let me know that I needed a basic, routine maintenance tune-up. Although in my previous post I had mentioned not to go here for a tune-up, I decided to go in order to support a small business. The car was taken in and I decided to wait for the car. After the normal amount of time had passed he informed me that my wipers needed fixing. I was lazy that day and said that he could replace them (with the normal and completely understandable mark-up of parts). The price of the wipers wasn't outrageous ($15), but you can buy them for ~$25 at Advance Auto, which is what I usually do. It isn't that hard to replace a J-Hook wiper. Anyway, one of the wipers did not go flush against the windshield, and accordingly did not wipe the rain away. I took it in just ~30 minutes after it was installed. He immediately went inside, got a new wiper, and then installed it. On the invoice he let me know that in about 10,000 miles that I would need to replace some parts. He gave me a fair market value appraisal (I went to Burke Centre Automotive immediately thereafter and received a similar price estimate, but without the firmness of VA AUTO SERVICE's (which puts it on paper). I like the firmer estimate and the congenial attitude of the office staff (his wife is also on staff). The overall price of the service was $94 (A-1 and wipers). For the overall experience I have rated 4/5. The owner is a 6/5! He is the best owner of an establishment that I have seen since I worked at a restaurant busing tables to pay through college (2006-2008). He is meticulous in his work and if anything goes wrong he will make it right. However, the wiper blade issue was annoying and in the future I'll do it myself (should have known). I will almost certainly be returning as long as future reviews aren't bad. See below for my review from a year ago: I have taken two cars here for several different issues. The first was an A/C compressor issue. The total amount was ~100-150 less than surrounding locations (and they do Saturday's). The second was an issue with alignment. Once again the cost was cheaper. However, the third time I visited, they charged me $90, yes $90 for an oil change. Insane markup there. So I saved, in the end, only a few dozen dollars. Nice staff, but I'm never going there for routine maintenance. So to sum up, for major REPAIRS I think it worth it. For routine MAINTENANCE stay away.
