I hope Countryside Proprietary replaces this inept company. Unskilled drivers and constant excuses for missed pickups. Their 1.6* ratings along with pathetic responses from management for poor reviews should tell everyone not to use their services.

I happened to talk with a Miss Porche D. Grant, very nice lady regarding her company's truck squeezing - and thus cracking - my large trash. She was very cordial and prompt in setting up a time for me to get another one. The problem with the replacement trash can is that it looked like it was dragged through a playground. Dirt was all over it and under one of the sides was an old wasp nest. Needless to say, I had to pry off that old nest and scrub the heck out of this trash can. Why couldn't Republic at least have the decency to clean off the trash can? At least make me believe it was new...ok almost new...not another nasty trashcan.

Requested service be cancelled in Feb.. its May and im dealing with overcharges for months i did not have service. They billed me for March, April and May. Funny thing is i called March, april to make sure service was cancelled. Seems like nobody know what they are doing

Abysmal process for cancelling services, and it takes weeks for them to pick up the trash and recycling bin once canceled. Their price structure is also significantly higher than their competitors.

Disappointed with the service at our Fairfax Station home. We just moved into the area and the Rep I spoke with stated trash pick up would occur on Thursday.

Our trash was not picked up as scheduled. If you have other trash service options in your area, recommend exploring them. Also my neighbor mentioned hidden fees that caused then to recently switch providers as well. So make sure you look into that as well.

We have Republic services at two homes. Needed to cancel service at one due to a move. Called and they picked up phone immediately told them I needed to cancel service and was immediately put on hold for over 15 minutes. I hung up called back and they wanted me to wait on hold again. It just seemed like they were playing games and not interested in helping.

Trash has not been picked up in over 3 weeks. I have called and submitted for missed pick up every 2-3 days. Ever reschedule has been missed and every weekly pick up has been missed. No one has been able to tell me why or communicate with me about the issue. We are at almost 4 full weeks of missed pickups. I dont mind missing one or two but the lack of communication and lack of care despite taking my money is frustrating.

UPDATE 3/31 9AM: still no pick up. Email sent and also called. This is unacceptable!

It has been the second consecutive Friday that they miss a waste pick up. I called every single day to schedule a collection, and they would have the exactly SAME ANSWER every time I called “ we are on route and will be picking up today”. The day never came and the garbage sat outside until next Friday - 7 DAYS OUTSIDE and it’s a huge mess once the raccoons starter eating it.

Today, Monday, the garbage is again outside since Friday again. For reference it’s McLean and this company is the worst ever. We will be switching them.

Previous owners left their recycling bin at my house. Republic refuses to take it. Its been almost 2 years, and still no pickup of the bin. Now they threaten to charge me even though its not my property and I don't and have never used republic services?

Recent service has been ridiculous. They missed my usual trash pick up, so I scheduled a missed pickup day. My camera captured them completely missing my house. On the day they were scheduled to pick up, they never showed. I had contacted them 3 times that day as I was monitoring their route on my account. All 3 representatives confirmed they would come pick up trash on that day. My trash is extremely full, I have bags sitting outside making it an eyesore and potential to get cited by my HOA. Poor resolution and customer service.

Now I understand why this company have 1.6 star. Horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible service and horrible horrible horrible customer service. I started my service on February the first and was supposed to get my trash picked up every Tuesday . They missed every single week!!!!!!!!!!! Litterly ever single week. I gave them a chance after a chance and the still missed up!!!!!!!!!! Like first time ok mistakes happens second fine ¯\/¯ third but forth for times in a row . And when I want to cancel they said I still have to pay for the month of March despite their shitty horrible service. I apologize for my language but I'm soooo frosted right now.

I started residential trash service with Republic Services on February 1 with a scheduled pickup every Tuesday.

However, the company repeatedly failed to provide the scheduled Tuesday pickup. The pickup was missed five consecutive Tuesdays without explanation. Because of these missed pickups, I had to contact customer service multiple times to request a return pickup.

Although the company sometimes completed the pickup after I contacted them, the scheduled service itself continued to be missed. On several occasions, even the return pickup that was scheduled to make up for the missed service was also missed.

Despite these repeated service failures, I continued to give the company multiple opportunities to correct the issue and remained patient while contacting customer service.

Because the service was not reliably provided as agreed, I decided to cancel my service and switch to another provider starting March 11.

When I contacted the company and requested that the March charge be removed due to the repeated missed service, they responded that my account would simply close at the end of the month according to their policy.

I do not believe it is reasonable to charge a full month for March when the agreed weekly service was repeatedly missed and required multiple calls to correct.

I am requesting a refund of the March charge as a fair resolution.

Our trash and recycle were missed multiple times. I had to call to ask for a pick up. I called 4 times to request for the recycle bin to be replaced as it the lid was broken by the workers when then picked up the trash.and they all said they scheduled it but nobody replaced it after 1.5 months.

Most trash service providers get low marks. The Republic Services contract for our HOA is stellar. Especially important is our interface with the Account Executive. She proactively keeps us informed and promptly responds to our requests. There are other providers in Northern Virgina, but we're sticking with Republic Services.

Compliments to the entire RS team and to the drivers and crew working on the trash and recycling trucks. I saw RS team members come through my neighborhood yesterday, and they navigated the snow incredibly well. Despite the conditions, they arrived on time, moved efficiently through the street, and handled everything with professionalism. Grateful for their service!

Perfect example of what happens when a company gets complacent and greedy. Almost my entire neighborhood and surrounding neighbors have moved to Evergreen Disposable. To be fair, when I used Republic I had no complaints but they just kept increasing costs and didn't even consider trying to price match evergreen when they had the chance.

We have had republic trash service for a few months now and multiple times our trash/recycle wasn’t picked up. I have called and been assured someone would be out to pick the following day and they never come and my full can sits until the following weeks normal pick up. This time I have submitted two times that my recycle wasn’t missed. Both times the form says someone will be here with in 48 hours to pick up. No surprise nobody ever showed up. Now here we are again almost a week later and tomorrow is my normal recycle pick up so my trash can has been on the curb full for almost week with nobody coming to pick up. I would think with such a bad track record for missed pick ups republic would prorate bills. I pay to have my trash picked up one time a week and my recycle picked up one time a week. When those pick ups are missed I am paying for a service I am not receiving. I will be shopping around for a more reliable service and you should too!

We live on a street with a cul-de-sac so they have to drive by our house twice, and when they didn’t pick it up the first time I started recording. I’ve submitted a missed pickup, an email, and messaged their social media teams. So frustrated with their unreliability.

Unreliable schedule.
On Wednesday December 31st, 2025, they did not show up to collect my recycling bin and the yard waste. My bin was out there at 9am. They usually come after 10 or 11am. My guess is that they changed the time to avoid the pick up so that they can leave the work early. December 31st is not a holiday - they should work as normal business day.

I’m beyond frustrated with the poor service from Republic Services. Today, the driver let my trash can fall directly onto the curb, breaking the lid and didn’t even bother to pick up the trash that was supposed to be collected. I have clear video evidence showing the incident in front of my home.

This isn’t the first time this driver has caused damage either. Last week, he left deep metal gouges in my yard, and now the top of my trash can is broken from being dropped carelessly. It’s clear that there’s little to no concern for property, safety, or customer satisfaction.

I pay for this service expecting basic professionalism not to have to repair or replace my own trash can because of careless handling. This has got to stop. I’m asking Republic Services to take accountability, replace the damaged bin, and retrain their staff so they stop causing damage to customers’ property.

Video footage is available and will be shared if needed. This level of negligence is completely unacceptable.

Four weeks in a row now that my trash pickup has been missed. Customer service reps are easy to work with to get a pickup scheduled for the next day, but the truck never came to pick up the trash! Just this past week the regular service was missed on Mon 10/20, pickup scheduled for Wed 10/22 never happened, called again and was scheduled for Fri 10/24 but again the truck never came to pick up my trash! This is the worst service provider I have ever had to deal with. Everyone in my cul de sac uses American, guess I’ll have to switch since they are able to pick up trash on time! Fairfax County needs a unified sanitary district ASAP!

Horrible. Signed up for service (Fairfax, VA). They brought one recycling bin and started to bill me immediately. When I called asking where my trash container was, they said they were out of stock. They could not give me any estimate. Just said it could be next week, could be next year. But I can buy my own container or just carry all my trash bags to the end of my driveway each week. That was their solution. Canceled service. Now I'm having a hard time getting them to pick up their recycling bin, yet they are threatening to charge me $250 for it.

We called for a replacement for our broken trash can and were promised a new one would be delivered when they picked up the old one.

It has now been two weeks since they took our broken can, and we still have not received the replacement. We've been forced to store all of our garbage bags in our garage because we have nowhere else to put them.

Every time we call customer service, they promise we will receive a can but tell us we have to wait until Friday for our pickup day. This means the problem will continue for at least another week. The repeated broken promises and the inconvenience are incredibly frustrating.

I've been with these guys for years and should have canceled sooner. We have asked for an additional can or larger can for months, so while we've waited we are using a smaller one we bought. Every time the guy picks it up he puts it in my driveway which makes it very hard to get into the driveway. Today (the pic is how he left it) he purposefully put it in the middle of the driveway. As I'm running out to yell at him he just waves at me and drives off. Done with these guys!

Frequently would not pick up trash or recycling on the appropriate day, leaving us with trash or recycling loads for two to three weeks sometimes.

When called for holiday schedules, person on phone frequently wouldn't be able to tell us an updated schedule. When told we would have Saturday or Tuesday pickups, collections never showed.

Charges almost 1.5-2x competitors' rates, but is rude or absent on the phone.

Now that we're moving to another service, we left our recycling out again, but recycling was never picked up. We left both bins out for final pickup, with the recycling load owed to us for pickup, and Republic refused to collect the bins.

Update: Nearly 3 weeks later, they still haven't come to pick up the recycling bin, even though they set the original re-attempt date AND the reschedule of that (without informing us until we called after they never showed). We've gotten the bill for the Bins pickup, but they still haven't finished the job!

Dealt with this consistently for more than 3 years. Good riddance.

[Sept. 10 '24 update: a crew man returned ALL dumpsters to curb. Recycling truck man placed my bin on the curb; no tossing. ] Better in past 2 weeks. A Fairfax area manager , Robert, phoned and courteously heard my complaints. Yesterday's emptied recycling bins were placed on curb or sidewalk; dumpsters were returned to curb.

e cut & neatly bundled bamboo so that it is less than 4 feet in length. I was able to carry up a hill about 100 yards. The only thing missing is a Tiffany Box. Yet Republic Services is not capable to tossing these bundles which weigh less than 20 pounds each into their truck. I have called multiple times over 4 weeks. Each time promised a truck. And yet here they still sit as a roadside testament to the quality of their service.

CUSTOMER BEWARE OF REPUBLIC SERVICES!!! They miss pickups routinely. Their customer service is only for show. They make promises but they don't follow through. After a recent spate of missed pickups and several calls, I finally got someone to admit their sub-contract expired and they have nobody running their routes!

It's impossible to get in touch with anyone local. You'll be routed to a call center in North Carolina, Arizona, wherever. They'll promise resolution without knowing whether resolution is even possible. Look at the company's replies to all the negative reviews here -- it's all for show. You can email their customer service all day but that won't make the trash or yard waste in front of your house disappear.

This company is a joke, a bottom feeder. Take a look at the other reviews on here, they're all the same. I finally had enough and cancelled my service with them.
