I had a very disappointing experience with the NAPA Auto Parts store in Fairfax.
In April, we purchased an alternator from this location for one of our customers. Just a few months later, the customer called because the battery warning light came back on. Another shop had already replaced the battery, but the problem remained. We diagnosed the vehicle ourselves and confirmed the battery was good. The alternator, however, was overcharging at 15.2 volts at idle, indicating the internal voltage regulator had failed.
We brought the defective alternator back to NAPA under warranty. The replacement alternator they handed us had excessive play in the pulley before it was even installed. When I asked if they had another one, they said they did not. I then requested a refund since they couldn’t provide a quality replacement.
That’s when things became even more frustrating. We were told they couldn’t issue a refund because we didn’t have the box. That makes absolutely no sense because when we originally purchased the alternator, we returned the original box with the core inside, which is standard practice. They already had the box, yet they still used that as the reason to deny the refund.
Instead of standing behind the warranty and helping us resolve the issue, we were forced to leave and spend more time driving around trying to find the part elsewhere. As a mobile mechanic, our time is valuable, and this delay also affected our customer.
We understand that defective parts can happen, but poor customer service and unreasonable warranty handling are much harder to accept. I expected a lot better from NAPA.
Had a very easy experience with battery testing and replacing the dead 12v battery in our Prius thanks to this NAPA location. They had our battery in stock and even lent us socket wrenches to replace the battery in their parking lot. Would definitely recommend for auto parts in the area. Staff were very knowledgeable and efficient.
Came in to buy two lug nuts. I told the employee the make and model of my car, but he sold me the wrong size and an entire set of 25 when I only needed two. The wrong ones got stuck on my tires, and I had to borrow tools from the store just to remove them.
The same employee spent 20 minutes grumbling while looking for a socket wrench and 19mm socket, insisting it was my fault. When I told him the correct size, suddenly there was a box of five in the back. So not only did he sell me the wrong parts, he was rude the entire time and tried to upsell me unnecessarily.
What should’ve been a 15-20 minute errand. Actually took more took 1:30-1:40 because of the employees incompetence.
I don’t mind honest mistakes, but this was incompetence mixed with attitude. I’ll order from Amazon next time. This was my last trip to NAPA.
I walked in and they let me stood up front of counter 20 mins without saying a word. It was the most disrespectful experience ever and they clearly don't want the business. Most of their items were dust and the place looks like it's about to shut down.
I used to love this place because of their great customer service. This one guy with glasses and long hair is going to run this place out of business. No need to be rude to customers when you’re informing them. I know some other workers who are amazing and are the kindest but this one worker is like a dead fish in a tank that will kill all other fish as well. Please try some employee training on him or fire him, worst customer service I’ve seen in my whole life.
This is the guy with long hair at in Napa ….. I was scratching a lotto ticket my bad for not looking up and greeting you but sadly I’m just a driver…. I sit at the counter cause it’s boring sitting in the back. So basically I couldn’t help you if I wanted to.

This store is simply outstanding! Twice these folks have bent over backwards to help me. I’m talking time consuming help done with patience, skill and kindness. Go there.
I came in today with my son inlaw. The gentleman that served us was polite to a point. The problem I had was when I (as a woman) asked a question the gentleman would direct the answer to my son inlaw. Please train your workers to answer to the person that asks the questions.
They have what you're looking for. They have overreacted a bit on the virus issue. Hard to reach the counter. Which makes it difficult to pay. The staff is laid back. Which is what I like.
Decent prices. Friendly helpful staff. Decent selection. If you dont see it in the shelf, ask! They probably have it in the back. Drove a little further for better quality parts and helpful staff. Definitely worth it.
The gave me the wrong part the first time. I had to exchange it. The gave me the wrong part again... i went to exchange it again and they tried to make me believe that they gave me the right part the first time and tried to make me look like a fool.
Terrible experience with a terrible human who lacks the most basic customer service skills. If you walk in and a red headed male attempts to “assist” you, please leave, immediately.
The gentlemen who work here know what they are doing and always willing to help figure out whatever automotive issue you may be having. They give honest reviews of the products they are selling, are willing to help order a part or find it at another NAPA location. Pricing here is reasonable and quality of parts is excellent.
God help the owner. I have brought at least 10 thousand dollars a year of business to this exact store. The recent treatment of a former employee is downright criminal and I hope OSHA files suit for your misconduct. I refuse to do any more business with Napa from here on out and will be informing every customer and I come in contact with to never go to Napa. Corrupt, evil and villainous management caused me to cancel any further relations with this terrible company. You know what you did and you'll end up paying for it in court.
