Great customer service and experience. My car had a bad axle and some coolant leaks they got it diagnosed and fixed within the same day for a fair price

I would like to commend John and Adam at Riley Auto care and transmissions. John and his team took the time to communicate the process of having our transmission replaced along with other serviceable items that would need to be looked at in the future. They provided photographs of all the worn items to be replaced during this repair and provided fair pricing for those items. One issue that John's team found was a leaking power steering hose that I assumed was a simple oil leak and his team found this during their inspection. Given the orientation of this hose over the exhaust pipe, this could have been an exothermic event if not found in a timely manner. I had them replaced the hose and we couldn't be happier with our service at John's shop. I myself own a small service company and appreciate good communication skills and friendly customer service. It's difficult to find good people with those skill sets and care about their work. Though driving from Liberty Hill Texas to San Marcos for such a repair proves that word-of-mouth is key in this business. I’m in the process of bringing a 1965 Thunderbird convertible back to life and it needed a variety of repairs. Unfortunately with an older car you think it’s one thing and find it’s more than one thing. So the cost goes up. I’m glad that I took her to Riley's they looked it over explained what my options were and I decided to just get it done. Im a Diesel Mechanic from Minnesota. I flew down to get a 2017 chevy suburban and it just recently had a rebuilt transmission put in from another dealer. My transmission was shifting fine but I noticed the temp was getting very hot, around 205 degrees and climbing the more i drove it. I knew my transmission cooler thermostat on the side of the transmission was plugged and not opening. I stopped by to see if they had the thermostat bypass kit avaliable and they did. They asked if the dealer hot flushed the cooler and lines and i was told it was but now i was questioning it. I needed to get going back home. They were able to get me in right away. They recommend the transmission cooler thermostat bypass, hot flush and transmission tune as a package and they explained everything extremely well. They showed me the metal in the thermostat that was plugged and what came out of the cooler after the flush. It was a large amount of metal that came out. We were discussing how the transmission was operating and what other failure points from GM that were wrong causing the transmission to make metal. With the high fluid temp would eventually ruin the transmission clutches, seals and longevity of the fluid. We also talked about how the torque converter was tuned from GM to slip and fail for no reason necessary. There is nothing wrong with the 6l80e transmission, its just the tuning and commands from the GM tune that are totally wrong. We did some testing and found that the brand new torque converter from GM was not locking up and he offered custom tuning to prevent pre failure and slip. After the transmission tune we went for a test drive and we were able to watch the graph and confirm the torque converter was locking up completely and all the gear changes weren't slipping either. The drivabillity of the suburban was actually better than the factory tune and i get anywhere from 1 to 2 mpgs more than before. Now my transmission temp is well below 160 degrees. They did a great job and explained everything very well and didn't try to up sell anything that I didn't need. Very happy with there work. The transmission runs way cooler and shifts amazing. I would highly recommend going to them to fix or save your transmission.

This establishment should be the standard for transmission and mechanical care. The staff not only helped me by diagnosing what exactly was wrong with my vehicle; They communicated with the warranty company on my behalf, they educated me on the components of my transmission and what damages/effects were occurring, they were up front about pricing and labor, and most importantly the staff were unbothered by my many questions and over communication. This will be the shop to service my vehicles as long as I’m in Texas.

Glad I found this shop! Knowledgeable staff with fair prices. I took my 2006 Sequoia in for some repairs; oil valves cover gaskets, ball joints, steering issues, and the HVAC heater control valve. They do so much more than transmissions. I'll be using them for all my future needs. They really do offer complete auto care. Thanks for getting me back on the road.

This establishment and the people who work here are fantastic. Fast, professional and above all else trustworthy and transparent. I have a Ford known for transmission issues. They did not over charge me for diagnostics and found the problem quickly. Saved me future head aches finding a few other small issues and fixing them. I ended up going back a week later after I over charged my AC and had the same great experience. It can be really hard to find a good trustworthy place to help with car troubles. Save your self the trouble and come here.

The team at Riley transmission has always delivered excellent customer service to me. We have had several very hard to diagnose issues with my 2003 Dodge ram pick up truck, and they always attacked the problem with a thorough understanding of Transmissions, and when necessary reaching out to extreme specialist on Dodge Products. The truck runs great today and it’s thanks to John and the team at Riley. I’ve had two transmissions rebuilt by them and both run flawlessly. Your attention to detail and customer service really set them apart from any other automotive shop in San Marcos!

John and the mechanics at Riley Transmission and Automotive Care know transmissions inside and out...and a whole lot more. I took my 2008 Tundra there for transmission fluid change. This shop does it right. At the oil change places, they'll change your fluid my draining it and then replacing it- but the guys and gals there can't see what's happening inside the transmission. At Riley Transmission & Automotive care, they pulled the pan, did a thorough inspection and installed a new gasket. They tweak whatever else needs tweaking and make recommendations based on their observations. While my truck was being serviced, they noticed that the serpentine belt was very worn. They replaced it with a new one. If the old one had broken, I would have been dealing with costly damage to the engine. This is a top notch facility providing quality work and expert craftsmanship.

Riley Transmission replaced my transmission on my 2011 Silverado LTZ back in 2017. Although I had meant to take it in for service, I waited until last October when shifter guide broke and had it towed to Riley. They told me that the repair would be minimal, but the transmission needed total service and I have a leak in my rear main seal. They took care of everything and at a reasonable price. 3 weeks ago we noticed oil on our driveway and took it back to Rileys. They never hesitated. Said it was there problem and took care of it. I highly recommend Rileys Transmission

Over the years we’ve taken two trucks and a jeep here. Riley’s has replaced an engine, fixed a transmission, and replaced a rear end. I don’t think I could find people who care as much or take the time like they do. It’s great when the work is done right the first time!

The Riley’s rebuilt the automatic transmission in my 1999 Isuzu after a few other shops had declined the job. This team is very knowledgeable and acts with integrity. I’ve since driven ~1000 miles and the transmission is going strong.
