Dorchester Heights Monument - Boston National Historical Park in

Very cool and historical site

Access to the monument has been restored with early completion of the renovation to make it wheel-chair accessible - in time for the 250th anniversary of the placement of cannon on the heights that led the British to evacuate Boston.

A musty stop for everyone. Aside from the tremendous view of the Boston, it is a great historical spot of the American Revolution.

Lovely spot- it just reopened. Lots of grass for a great lunch or quick open area to run barefoot and relax. Maybe some more native plants on the steep parts where it is not safe to walk? I’m curious what Native American tribe was in this area when American history was beginning. Thanks for a lovely public area!

Should be unlocked and open daily but really cool if you manage to catch it while open in March

Great place to walk a dog, have a picnic, or relax. Benches are available for sitting. I like to finish my run here because of the steep incline to get here.

I think this is the most important revolutionary war monument in Boston, but the secular scholars bately even mention it because of the miracles that cannot be explained. I really like the book called the Washington Hypothesis that talks about this. It is sad that we highlight the battle of Bunker Hill and don't even mention the miracles that occurred at Dorchester Heights in Boston during the revolutionary war. 1) The fact that Henry Knox was able to bring the war cannons 300 miles on sledges that could only be moved if it snowed, and it snowed and froze and allowed him to do that. 2) The incredible fog that settled and allowed George Washington to move his men in the dark of night right past all of the men and centuries of the British war machine settled in Boston to the Dorchester heights location that was the most strategic still available 3) God brought in a full-on hurricane too stop the British from attacking, but that wasn't all 4) He brought a plague of smallpox that drove the British out of Boston against a very undermanned American military. The full story should be told and it is not. When we were here there were several government contractors inspecting it to place bids to replace all the hardscape, which means the cement walks etc which have been sorely neglected, but it's nice to see something is happening though I hear it's taking 5 to 7 years.

Visited in June 2022 and found the park in great need of attention. Grounds were sloppy, monument was fenced off and full of weeds, steps and railings leading to hilltop were cracked, broken and unsafe. Sad to see this important historical site uncared for.

Would be cool, except it's completely closed off and under renovation/construction. So make sure you check that out before coming here. I arrived with high hopes, only to have them dashed when I was unable to climb up for a view. Disappointed.

Peaceful place to look at the city!!

Great view of the whole area and very cool history here, but it has basically turned into an off-leash dog park in the past year. Don't come here if you or your dog would rather not be approached by off-leash dogs.

It’s only a monument, i.e. nothing to do, yet as an important Revolutionary War sight, it’s interesting to see. It’s location, perched above Boston, made it a perfect spot for George Washington to place the massive canons retrieved from the abandoned Fort Ticonderoga by Colonel Henry Knox, to drive off the British encamped below. From Wikipedia: “On March 4, 1776, troops from the Continental Army under George Washington's command occupied Dorchester Heights, a series of low hills with a commanding view of Boston and its harbor, and mounted powerful cannons there threatening the city and the Navy ships in the harbor.” After an amazing overnight occupation of the high ground with powerful cannon artillery, it immediately made the British occupation of Boston untenable. The British and Loyalists left Boston two weeks later, never to return!

A beautiful park that is historically significant. Apparently, the monument is in need of repairs and closed for the time being. I'm sure it would have been spectacular to be able to climb to the top and see the view from there!

Special spot in the city! There is an unbeatable view of the entire city from atop this place. There’s a monument that houses an even greater view. At the steps there are a few plaques giving some of the rich history. There are also one or two beautifully maintained memorials for war veterans that’s worth stopping at and giving thanks. The big, open beautiful fields make you feel like you’re not in the city anymore. There are plenty of benches to soak up a good sunset on. There’s also usually a few dogs experiencing the euphoria of freshly cut grass and so you won’t want to miss that, either.

Come here all the time with the dog, great views, historic and almost no tourists... hidden gem

At any time are we allowed to go to the top of the monument to see the views from which those people long ago may have seen those views because I've been up to the top of the heights and the only view you can really see is that of the Marian Manor so that question really is is that thing open up at any time of the year supposed to be a lot better from top of the monument then it is for the park?

Great hill, overlooking the harbor. And while some of the Seaport buildings are hiding the waterviews and ships, one can imagine the great advatage general Washongton had back in 1776 when he fired a cannon at the Brits. A must see, regardless of season.

Great views in all directions. Quiet and peaceful park to enjoy.

Sick skyline view, totally rad crowd, neighborhood is lit, 10/10

Used to jog up the hill and around the park....walk up and enjoy the view AND the breeze in the summers....TIP- do NOT go sledding/allow your kids to sled HERE! My son is THE REASON there's a NO SLEDDING sign!

Due to its elevation, the Heights offers an excellent view of the surrounding city. Also this location is popular with families for picnics, fireworks watching in July as well as dog walking. Be advised, one should plan on bringing bags to clean up after their pets.

This is one of the city's best spots to watch the sun set. It's also great for the Fourth of July! And any random afternoon or evening, you'll find a group of locals and their dogs hanging out up here, playing and admiring the city views.

Such an important role in the Revolutionary War. The Patriots, under the secrecy of night, pulled cannon (that they had stolen from the British), and positioned them here high atop the hill. When the sun rose that morning the British could see that Boston and Boston Neck, was too vulnerable, and surrounding villages were not keen on them being there anymore, and pulled out of Boston. So badass!

Awesome spot to walk your dog or just relax on the grass. It's a query oasis with views of the bay and city. Be sure to read up on the role that this place played in our nation's history.

Tip: this is a great place to catch the St. Patrick's Day parade, which passes right below you. There's plenty of room to put down a sheet and have a picnic. Hats off to the folks at the National Park Service who keep this place looking great.

It's a nice place to walk with your dog or enjoy the view. It is close to Carson Beach, very residential area. You can see the New Year's fireworks from there.
