After inspecting the work performed by this shop, I found multiple serious and unacceptable issues that raise major concerns about their professionalism and integrity.
1. The oil drain plug was sealed with RTV/gasket maker instead of being properly repaired. This strongly suggests stripped threads or damage that was never disclosed. A drain plug should NEVER depend on sealant. This is a temporary patch that risks oil loss and catastrophic engine damage.
2. A bolt in the valve cover gasket area was also covered in the same sealant. The valve cover gasket was replaced only about 5,000 miles ago, and it is already leaking. A properly installed gasket should not fail this quickly. This raises serious concerns about the quality of the parts used and the workmanship performed. Covering bolts with sealant instead of correcting the underlying issue is not standard mechanical practice.
3. A tube connected to the intake pipe between the engine and air filter was broken and sealed with gasket maker instead of being replaced. It appears the part was damaged and patched rather than properly repaired.
4. The upper control arms were replaced by this shop. However, shortly after, my vehicle failed state inspection because the control arms were considered worn and unsafe and needed replacement again. This raises serious concerns about whether the parts were actually replaced or whether low-quality components were installed.
5. After their service, I also had to replace steering components. The vehicle was supposedly checked and serviced, yet major steering-related issues remained.
6. I paid for an alternator replacement, but there are strong reasons to question whether it was actually replaced.
When a customer pays for specific repairs and later discovers leaks, broken components sealed with RTV, failed suspension parts, inspection failure, and questionable replacements, this is not a minor oversight — it indicates a pattern.
I strongly do NOT recommend this shop. If you value your vehicle and your money, carefully verify all work performed here and request proof of parts replaced.
Spent 598.81 yesterday on my brakes because it felt like my brakes were to the floor and to stop it was delayed and I had to literally push my pedal to the floor , why I spent tha amount of money just for me to get my car and it still fell the same !! The showed me the hose was broken an my rear bad and router was gone but the fixed it and my brakes
Still feel th exact same ! Someone said they didn’t bleed my brakes ? Idk but I really need help ! Please someone help ? I just don’t wanna get in an accident !
Great shop! Herbie is honest and very accommodating. He explains things clearly and we even discussed a long term plan for maintenance. His prices are very fair as well.
Herbie really great. Honest, accommodating, kind, and understanding. Rare qualities to find in an industry that is typically approached by consumers with skepticism. If you are looking for a mechanic to trust for life and be your “go-to” guy… This is the one.
Me seeing all these high stars make me feel they just targeted me. I debated for months about writing a review since i took my car in sept/oct (2007 benz) but my car keeps getting worse. Took my car for an ABS issue and check engine light $100 to diagnose fine.
I must say they did fix it or so i thought. Drove well first day, then engine light came back on, a week later I took it back. $100 to diagnose took about 2 days to figure out (again or so i thought) said it needed a part that isnt made anymore so they "made a part" for it.
Take it home car is driving weird thinking its my breaks and day later check engine light comes back on, he says bring it in you still have warranty on it for same issue that is not fixed. oh wait $100 diagnostic fee. keeps my car 2 days or so, he says it needs breaks $1000. I've had breaks fixed on my car for less then 1000. so far I've paid them about 2000 and nothing is fixed correctly lights are still coming on. I said no i will come get my car. when i get there, he says its not the breaks its something to do with the break fluid and they will fix it for 300 and change minus the diagnostic fee $100.
I go turn on my heat. NOT WORKING. My car has never had problems starting especially in FREEZING weather. Car has issues starting now. I'd rather my car sit in my drive way till i can take it to the dealer as old as it is. 2500 and my car not working. I REFUSE to take it back there.
If you don't know how to fix it just say you don't know.

If there are more stars, I would give them more. My 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz had dents on two right doors and a big crack on front bumper.
They took care of all the paperwork. A,week and 1/2 later, I got the truck back in show room condition. They cleaned and detailed my truck inside out. Great customer service and quality work.
I would definitely recommend this place.

Herby is a miserable person and unfortunately does not respect people as a person with morals do. They will also over charge you with poor quality work to back the shop up. People go somewhere else where you will be respected and not ripped off by Herby.
I want to give a huge shout-out to D and L Auto Shop in Dorchester.
About two weeks ago, I unfortunately hit a piece of metal that fell off a truck on the road. This car means a lot to me, so I was really upset when it happened. I honestly didn’t have high expectations - I thought my front bumper would just be replaced just to look okay.
But D and L Auto Shop completely exceeded my expectations. The front bumper was restored beautifully, like nothing ever happened. The paint work is smooth and perfectly matched. On top of that, they detailed and polished the exterior, making the car look bright and refreshed.
What impressed me even more was the interior detailing. The inside of the car was cleaned thoroughly, smelled amazing, and there were many small, thoughtful details that I didn’t expect at all.
I’m truly impressed by their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and professionalism. If you’re looking for body work, repairs, or detailing, I highly recommend D and L Auto Shop.

Just got my brakes and rotors done in less than an hour. They order the parts, had them delivered, test drove before and after and completed the job. They have great customer service, Herbie is the man. He kept my girlfriend and I entertained while we waited. I will absolutely return to D&L for the next inevitable round of auto maintenance. Herbie is literally a life saver! I brought in my 2012 chevy not knowing what was wrong with it nor where to start, he eased my mind, I instant knew I was in good hands and his turn around time was amazing. His communication was amazing, he called me and kept me updated with every step & made sure he had my approval before moving forward & explained everything to me in a way that I’d understand because unfortunately I’m just a girl but I didn’t feel taken advantage of at all. I highly recommend & will be coming back to him for all of my future car needs.
So what to say? Herbie and his team are the best. They WILL work with you. They understand everyone’s circumstance and will help you. Herbie saved me from losing a big opportunity and for that I am truly great full! I plan for him to be my go to. His prices are reasonable and he’s UNDERSTANDING. GO GO GO TO HERE. Taken my care in multiple times because boston sucks but this place doesn’t! As a women, it’s hard to find an auto place that doesn’t screw you over or up charge you and everyone working here gave me fair price, was super quick and efficient, and explained everything throughly. I wasn’t oversold anything and didn’t have any random charges. You get what you pay for in the best way possible and they actually care about you!
All the people at D&L auto including Joe, Herbie, and Ben, always take good care of me when my vehicles require work. They are very detailed with work completed and things that may need attention in the future. Big shoutout to these guys especially Herbie for always coming through for me and my family.

I had a terrible experience at D and L Auto Repair today. I went in with a broken driver-side door handle — a simple issue I clearly explained. They tried to charge me $349, even though the part only costs around $49. It felt like a blatant attempt to rip me off.
When I refused the service, they still charged me $100 just to “diagnose” the issue I had already described in detail. Then, after picking up my car, I noticed my windows weren’t working properly — something that was never a problem before.
This place felt shady and dishonest. I strongly suggest avoiding D and L Auto Repair if you value fair pricing and trustworthy service.
Herbie and his team are excellent. I've been in for a bunch of stuff (heat shield, brakes, AC, and inspection) and they've been fast, flexible, affordable, honest, and reliable, everything you would want. I'm lucky to have them nearby.
I came in to get my brakes changed and my muffler reinstalled. Herbie and his team were so kind, accommodating and efficient. Some of the best service I’ve received in I don’t know how long! Car troubles are exhausting enough, it comforting to know there’s a mechanic who cares to make your experience a great one. I’ll be back Herbie!!!!
I wanted to check what was dragging under my car and even getting there after their closing time, the owners and the mechanic mentioned that it could be a simple task, lifted my car, and fixed the panel that was loose right away. They were very helpful and friendly. I also learned they do MA's inspections, so I am definitely coming back if I need any repair or when I need a new car sticker.

Herby was friendly and knowledgeable about my car. We've done oil changes and had our inspection sticker done and both times were so smooth and he had us in and out in no time!
Cannot say enough about this business! Over the weekend I was heading up to Boston from providence over an hour away from home when my car started stalling. Went in at towards the end of the day to tell them about an electrical problem my car was having and they were able to have me bring it in the next day as they opened. They kept in contact with me about the progress and it ended up being a less expensive problem than I thought. They were able to fix my vehicle in a timely manner. Awesome customer service!

Both here and the new D&L body shop on Blue Hill Avenue are fantastic. They have helped me for a long time, but recently helped me through a difficult situation with my car with incredible kindness and fair prices. They make you feel comfortable and confident. I cannot recommend them enough. Herbie and Jerry and Kevin are awesome and will take great care of you.
This place is well reviewed for a reason. Joe took the time to explain my options when what I thought was a minor repair turned out to be a bigger issue than expected. The price was fair and these guys did a great job getting it done fast. Herbie also took the time to make sure I understood what was done and other upcoming maintenance I might consider to keep the car running smoothly. I will definitely be back.
Had to bring my car because it was smoking. Once it was looked at, Herbie not only took the time to explain to me what needed to be fixed but he also showed me where. While moving my car within the shop, Bin made sure to handle it with care and was also comfortable and capable of backing my car out onto Dot Ave knowing how busy it could. Outside of auto repairs, I have used them for my annual inspections for the past 10yrs.
Not only are they good with car repairs and have great representatives like Herbie and Bin, but the company is willing to work with you and your finances as long as you let them know.
Hands down the best place to bring your vehicle and get all of your mechanical repairs done. For starters, Everyone at this shop provided the best customer service ever. They seriously treated my family and I with such love, care and respect without even knowing us. They Always had a smile on and were always very welcoming. I came into the shop because of a light sensor. I later found out my steering wheel pump was not working and was leaking oil, I was so devastated when I was quoted for nearly $1,000 ( was not anticipating this at all). Throughout this whole process I was being explained and showed what exactly was wrong with my vehicle, there was never a moment were I doubted if they were even telling me the truth because I saw everything with my own eyes. I have honestly never experienced this and for that reason and because they worked with me by fixing hoses instead of buying new ones it ended up saving me some money. Forever grateful and I will definitely come back again! Thank you so much again to Joe and wife, Herbi and team for taking care of me and making my car feel like new again!
