I went to a dave hot chicken and parked outside the establishment, went inside to use the bathroom, I come out 5 mins later and my car was getting towed. I had to pay $400 to get my car back in cash only.

Scammers , walked off the property for just a few minutes, came back on the property to eat at IHOP. Came out and my truck was towed . Told me they had eye witnesses that saw me leave the property. I did just to look at the menu at Dave's Hot Chicken , but I came back on the property to eat at IHOP. Came out of IHOP after eating and my truck was gone. Tried to explain this but was told it didn't matter since I walked off the property... Will never eat at the IHOP or Outback steakhouse or visit any store in the parking area again . Charged me $405 dollars .

“All towing companies have bad reviews” -“owner” Please take a second and google nc towing companies and look at their reviews. Non even compare. No matter how nice you are to these people they are nasty, distasteful, and unprofessional on all levels. Over $400 in less then 24 hours is insane.

They’ve seemingly been mass reporting reviews. Found out certain trigger words make Google more likely to remove the review when reported- not even obscene or harmful words, just anything that sounds too serious. I’m sure they’ll find a way to hide this one too, but fortunately I always have another plan in play! Paid $405 in cash. We were told they only accept cash. Later, they claimed they never said this, despite telling both me and a family member separately that cash was the only option. About a month later, they came up with a different explanation involving their card machine that had never been mentioned before. After payment, WE WERE TOLD WE COULD NOT HAVE OUR VEHICLE BACK, because they did not like our (calm but clearly frustrated) demeanor. This required escalating the situation until we were eventually allowed to go. We did not behave threateningly, and there was no aggression at the start — the real problem arose once we had paid in full and were still not permitted to leave with the vehicle. At 11pm, that’s super creepy. The lady also smelled strange, at least in the opinion of me and my partner. We were later told that our account could not be proven, despite the fact that payment had been given and the vehicle was in their possession at the same time. They are not allowed to have your cash and your vehicle at the same time, and refuse to return the vehicle without cause. We were visibly disgruntled after trying to obtain $405 in cash at 11pm on a 30 degree night, and after being told card was not acceptable, and of course, after dealing with such a dishonest company. But we were not aggressive. We tossed the cash down and said ‘here you go’. And the dispatcher was on a power trip- one that they did not succeed in. They knew they were in the wrong for not returning it after payment, and eventually caved. Bottom line: when you pay, you should receive your car and be allowed to leave. Especially when your demeanor is calm and unthreatening. Having your vehicle towed from a lot with no clear signage, and being told you have to find a way to get to their location with $405 in cash before midnight or pay twice, on a freezing cold night- and then be told you can’t have your car back after paying, is frankly unacceptable. And those I spoke to (I can’t say the job title because it’s apparently a ‘trigger’ word on Google reviews- but they wear blue and have authority over citizens) said this company has been a problem and that the fee is excessive. They also said the cash only thing is a method for bypassing taxes, and that this company has been caught before operating without a license. Be sure to record calls when interacting with this business. These people are crooks- though not very savvy ones. They tried to send a C&D over me sharing this story, but called it an ‘ease and desist’. Every interaction we’ve had since the event has been very entertaining, so credit where it’s due I suppose!

I got towed at midnight. They tried to charge me for 2 days because the lady said when the guy hooked my car up it was before 12. When he finished it was after 12. Horrible. Then they tried to add a storage fee because they said I couldn’t pick the car up the next day since it was the weekend.

Unfortunately, a family member's car was impounded. Gotcha's employee, Valerie, was very courteous and helpful in a stressful situation. The cash only nature of their business means they may have some leeway in certain cases and I am appreciative of that.

Tried to argue there's a gray area to predatory parking lot towing. They couldn't tell me if they are licensed to pop locks when your keys are locked in your car or not. You legally have to be a licensed locksmith in NC to do that. Predatory. I feel sorry for the people that work there. $405 and I was there 5 minutes after they got my car there.

Towing people's car with no sign that says "NO PARKING" This company needs to be sued for unlawful Towing!!! If I could put -0 for stars I would but since you dont have that option, a 1 star rate will do!!

If I could leave zero stars, I would. Let’s start with the name of the company, GOTCHA. An antagonist name for a towing company that looks to increase the misfortune of others and charges $400 cash just to get your car back. A sham of a business that preys on students in a college town. No warning, no ticket, your car is just gone. The employees at the Greensboro location were not only rude and dismissive, they had an ax to grind. Went to a festival downtown, came back to the car, and it was gone. After inquiring to a local police officer, was told to call Gotcha Towing. I called, tried to pay over the phone, they wouldn’t accept and I was told I had to pay in person with cash. Had to spend extra on an Uber, get to an ATM, then Uber to the towing company only to be treated rudely by the evening employees. The website boasts contactless payment. This is a fraudulent statement experienced first hand. Please shut down this business and protect downtown Greensboro. Who is going to want to go to downtown Greensboro for anything?

If there is any justice left in this world, this company will eventually collapse under the weight of its own misconduct. Horrifically bad drivers and customer service representatives with absolutely no emotional intelligence- no legitimate business would tolerate this kind of behavior for a single moment. This operation is a blight on the community of Greensboro—unprofessional, corruptible, and utterly devoid of integrity.

To everyone that has been given an excessive tow bill from this place. G.S. 20-219.10 is what you need to know to dispute the tow. I have heard of bills being as high as $400 in cash for one vehicle. Just see your local Magistrate in that county. These people are shady and I hope the City of Greensboro PD don’t have them on their rotation!

They towed my truck when I ran in my apartment real quick and I mean less than 10 mins and they towed my vehicle. They charged me $400 to drop the vehicle they are a bunch of scammers.

was at dave’s hot chicken for no more than 5 minutes and parked at the outback bc there wasn’t parking at dave’s and got towed and had to pay $400 and pay for an uber and they didn’t tell us it was cash only until we got there. absolute losers

I did not have a choice, but to park next door to the restaurant where I needed to pick up dinner. I made an honest mistake by turning into the parking lot next door. It was late. I had my daughter with me. They towed my car within five minutes of parking. The driver would not let me run across the street to get him cash. He left my daughter and I on the side of the road in the dark. I called their customer service number. He wouldn’t speak with them. After a long day at work, I just wanted to pick up dinner for my daughter. 400.00 is what I paid this evening to get my car back. I have to work a lot of hours to earn that. I forgive them. I know they were just doing their jobs, but it was pretty heartlessly handled.

Company is a run by typical scammers, just look at their trash reviews. Almost as bad as their customer service. Towed my car from General reserved parking spot at 2 pm. After they still charged me 340$ and i had to drive with my friend 30 mins and also wait more than 40 minutes to pick up my car, and I missed half a day of work. Greensboro, BEWARE. If you go to Dave’s Hot Chicken, predatory Gotcha Towing has someone watching the parking lot and if you park in the lot by Outback, etc. and go to Dave’s, they will tow you. It’s $350 to get your car back. It’s $250 if you come out and you want them to drop it.

This is by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my life! I have never dealt with a company so rude, and unwilling to waiver even when it is there fault! If I could give a 0 star I would!!! The people are just down right nasty, and the drivers are just out to get $ without any recourse! Apparently ANYONE can have a vehicle just towed at anytime and they will still charge you because they don't care about anyone or anything. I honestly have never felt this way about any company ever! I will post this Everywhere I can!! BUYER BEWARE - STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS

I have parked in the parking lot next to daves hot chicken almost every day of the week but have never seen any boards or anything. I went inside for like 10 mins and they towed my car even though most of the businesses were closed at that time . When i came back i saw the board on the other side of the parking lot after a woman told me that she saw a car getting towed. The board was on the other side of the parking lot, where you can only read it, if you go in from that side but for that you have to enter the on coming traffic lane which is super dangerous. They charged me $387, for towing my car for 20 minutes and were super rude. I will take a legal action against them as they are a mafia. I wont let innocent people get scammed. Will update soon!

Parked at Battleground Commons and walked to Dave’s Hot Chicken for about 30 minutes. We genuinely missed the parking signs — an honest oversight — and returned to find our car towed. Being charged $427 to get it back is absolutely despicable. It’s hard to believe a business would be this disgusting.

Towed car and said it was illegally parked. It was in a parking space backed in. Asked why other cars backed in weren't towed and was told we can't tow 30 cars. So you pick and choose which one you will tow? Still seeing cars backed into spaces not towed. Cost 365.00 to get car back. Predators at their finest.

BOOOOOOOO! im throwing tomatoes! PREDATORY PRACTICES AND UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF!!! my car was towed from the parking lot of an apartment complex I've lived in for 8 years because my permit slid off the dash, which has never happened. The permit was VISIBLE through the window but of course, these LAZY SCAMMERS didn't even attempt to acknowledge that. when i went to get my vehicle, i was processed by some disheveled looking woman with see through pants and a matted wig, who was on the phone having a full personal conversation while being processed. this company nor it's owner have a stellar reputation. not surprising.

We ended up getting towed. Completely understandable what was NOT understandable, was being told not everyone has to pay. Actually quite a slap in the face and so unfair. Spoke to the owner of the parking lot who had no idea in his words why we were “ lied to by gotcha towing”.

Worst towing company ever. I can’t wait to contact Jeff Jackson about this matter. Towed my car and I was legally parked AT MY HOUSE on MY PROPERTY. So not only did your driver TRESPASS onto Private Property for a car that’s been paid off for 5 YEARS with title in hand. You also don’t accept cards only cash. You didn’t even have my car for 5 hours and want to charge a STORAGE FEE. I hope Darrell and Pamala sleep soundly tonight knowing they keep scamming people out of their hard earned money. I guess that’s why one can afford an $869k house and the other can afford a $413k house.

The person on the phone line, Pamela, was very rude. She didn't even want to tell me her name when I asked who I spoke with, and made an already unfortunate situation even worse. She spoke over me when I was asking general questions and was being passive aggressive when I asked for clarification. I totally understand we parked in the wrong area, we are not from the area and didn't see the signage as it was broken in half in the area we parked, but we still deserve to be treated like people and spoken to with understanding and respect rather than annoyance and rudeness. Very disappointed, especially as a fellow customer service employee.

Really horrible, honestly. Couldn't find parking at all, and parked for 30 mins to eat. Came out to find the car gone. They charge 340$ in CASH, or 360$ card bc they add a 20$ fee. Many people were left stranded from their towing. They even admitted to having cameras in the area to have trucks constantly on the move. Definitely predatory towing and sketchy as hell, especially since some people were offered 200$ to get it back on the spot or it gets towed. That's not right man. This company should be ashamed of how they are.

The lowest of society. 🤷🏼♀️ I guess some businesses have to prey on other hard working individuals for their income. What else can you say? So beware if you order ahead at Dave’s Hot Chicken and park for literally less than 2 minutes in an empty lot without a visible towing sign turned towards that row. (They had someone scouting the lot and 5 cars were towed with mine.) Don’t worry, the tow truck driver will offer to take $240 CASH to unhook it, because that’s not sketchy and everyone carries cash, right? Or you can immediately go pick it up for $370, including taxes. You guys are exceptional people. Keep taking money from honest families. 👍

Extremely disappointed with Gotcha Towing. My son parked in what looked like a regular parking spot in a strip mall with several shops and restaurants. He and his friends walked over to Dave’s Hot Chicken to grab a quick bite. They were inside for just 15–20 minutes, and when they came back, his car was already towed. It felt like someone was sitting there just waiting to tow cars. There were no clear signs indicating it was a tow-away zone, and the spot looked like public parking. Yet we were hit with a ridiculous $340 fee cash. This seems like predatory towing at its worst. It’s frustrating, unfair, and feels like a complete scam targeting young drivers. Not just that, even families walked out and found that their car was gone. Shame on Gotcha Towing for taking advantage of people like this.you will get what you deserve.

Me and my father decided to have some food at Dave's Hot Chicken after working out and we were towed within 8 minutes, so someone is clearly sitting in the parking lot just waiting so they can make you pay 350 dollars, which is a complete and total scam. They also have a 20 dollar fee if you use a card and not cash, so there's probably some fishy tax stuff going on too. We even tried to just pay the guy while it was being towed, which would've "only" been 250 dollars but he wouldn't even stop so we could do so. We were even going to use a shop in the shopping center, as I wanted to go check about getting something fixed at the uBreakiFix after we finished eating, but I guess no one in that shopping center will ever be getting my money or the money of anyone else I know. Rudest people you'll ever meet too, no surprise with a name like Gotcha though. For my and everyone else who has been towed sake's do not give them your money.

Towed my car & my clients car from downtown Greensboro (I work downtown) from a lot that did not have signs posted in the parking spaces themselves. I understand the confusion, but being the fact the signage was vague you would think they would have some kind of compassion and understanding for the situation. The drivers were smart asses. Not only that but my e-break was on so who knows if my car is ruined. I had to pay for my clients car as well. $700! They also only took cash only so they’re probably smearing the books, the irs should probably take a look at that. I will definitely be reporting them and have email the private owner of the lot so they can have proper signage.

I had parked really quick to go get food for my sister and the tow didn’t hesitate to come and pick my car up, which is crazy because they charged me $300!! Like what the heck you guys traveled accross the state to pick my car up or something ? Holy crap it’s stupid, they didn’t have nothing else better to do then to tow a car that was not parked at a sign that said “do not park”

I asked myself why I would bother to post a review about a company who obviously cares nothing about its reputation nor its online presence, but it has to be done so people can see for THEMSELVES how horrible a company this is. A customer of mine had their All-Wheel Drive Nissan Rogue towed to my shop by Gotcha Towing. You can see by the pictures from our security cameras the vehicle was towed with its back two wheels ON THE GROUND instead of on a flat bed or having the rear wheel on the proper equipment as to not allow the rear wheels to maintain contact with the ground (therefore roll) while the front wheels are not rotating. This is important as it ABSOLUTELY will damage the All-Wheel Drive components on these vehicles. I included a picture of the Technical Service Bulletin released BY NISSAN specifically stating towing this way WILL CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE. The vehicle now has a severe mechanical issue due to this situation (it was towed in for a no start situation that had no bearing on this new problem created by this towing company). The customer attempted to call and the first time was told they have "video evidence" the rear wheels were on dollies. Customer called them back with our security footage proving that statement to be a lie and was berated & yelled at by a woman who continued to state for them to "Take us to court" and "All you want is me to cut you a check". To help our now very frustrated customer who is facing an expensive repair, we attempted to call ourselves thinking miscommunication/frustration was playing a roll here. The lady who answered the phone, who obviously believes she has mechanical knowledge, but ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT - she said the vehicle would have "gave resistance" if there was a problem with how it was towed. WHAT?!?! After that idiotic comment, she proceeded to state the same statements she said to our customer of "they just want a check" and "they can take us to court". When we very calmly and professionally questioned her, she stated she was "done with this" and hung up on us. The idea was for them to pay for the vehicle to be repaired, not hand my customer a check nor require them to take Gotcha Towing to court but she, quite literally, leaves them no choice BUT to obtain a lawyer. The refusal to even CONSIDER they are in the wrong and need to do what is right by repairing the vehicle is baffling. I cannot understand how these guys are still in business if this is how they treat people and the vehicles entrusted to them to be towed safely, without further damage, to its destination.
