You can't even get to the water, you can just see it from afar. It's a water reservoir. ?

Beautiful views in this area day or night. Also some cool hiking/exploring if you know where to look :-)

There's Got to be a record breaking fish in there if it's closed to the public...

Lake Mathews is a reservoir used to supply water to the cities in the Metropolitan Water District.

Great place Boating is awesome here., Don’t know why people say you can’t fish here..

It is a reservoir!!! You cannot fish or swim there, I do not understand why people are complaining about no public access to a reservoir?

*Update! The water levels have drastically declined over the past couple of years, but it recently has been filled. Lake Mathews supplies fresh water for some neighboring areas; the lake is not open for use of boating, fishing, recreational activities, etc. Lake Mathews has an amazing, beautiful view from the hilltop Lake Hills community in nearby Riverside. See photos from both before the lake was filled, with the low water levels, and after the lake was filled…super filled!

You can't swim, boat or fish in this lake but i am going to give it 5 stars because is it a well protected water supply for the inland empire. The lake always appears to be clean and well protected. The roads around the lake are not been covered in trash or weeds so it looks to be well kept and in good management.

I Love driving around the Lake... Just enough Curves to make it interesting...

What an awesome Jewel right in everyone's back yard without most of them even knowing about it. Awesome wildlife and such a Tranquil and Peaceful atmosphere.

Beautiful place and scenery

I’ve lived in this community for 8 years and it is truly a beautiful and preserved hidden gem that is nestled between the cities of Riverside and Corona. Cajalco Rd is the main road and a great backroad to escape the 91 Freeway traffic and it is far away from all the freeway and city pollution but still close to grocery stores, libraries, shops, etc. On one side of Cajalco you can see the beautiful blue Lake Mathews and on the other you can see the custom million dollar homes that are built on the Gavilan Hills. The residents are friendly and very determined to keep the area rural and make sure the very few tract homes that are built are on large lots and are equestrian zoned. The homes in the area are mostly custom and the tract homes are beautiful and none of them look alike which is rare in the Inland Empire. 40 minutes to Disneyland, 1 hour to Los Angeles, 1 hour to San Diego. 30m to wine tasting in Temecula. 1hr to the beach. A quick 8 mile trip down the canyon and you will find Dos Lagos in Corona which includes over 20 restaurants and lounges with wine tasting, and steak houses. The Tyler Mall in Riverside is also 8 miles away which includes Nordstrom, Macys, and an AMC Theater. This is a great place to live with a great school district and I’m proud to call Gavilan Hills/Lake Mathews home.
