Why shop on the internet when you can shop hands-on, buy local, and support a small business? Great selection of reclaimed lumber. Bobby was friendly and very helpful as we explored the possibilities for a new (old!) mantle. Matt is extremely knowledgeable, skilled, and passionate about his craft. We found a perfect piece. Matt did a bit of custom cutting - finishing sooner than we expected. He told us the history of the beam and even gave us a picture of the original barn! We'll frame the picture and keep it near the mantle.

Sons of Sawdust has an enormous amount of wood to choose from. We drove from Memphis to Nashville just to check out their supply and were amazed at all the choices. My daughter and son-in-law found a rustic log for their fireplace and Matt cleaned it up, oiled it and cut it the length they wanted and the finished log is beautifull! Their picture is the first picture. I found a hand cut beam with the ax marks which I love and Matt did the same, cleaned, oiled and cut the beam the size I wanted and it looks just as I imagined. Both pieces turned out so nice. Matt was so patient with us and helped us find exactly what we were looking for. It was well worth the trip an I would recommend going to Sons of Sawdust if you are looking for old wood, with character and history.

Matt was super helpful and patient throughout the process of helping me build a table and benches. He was super flexible with scheduling and he was positive and encouraging. It was really fun going from complete novice to building beautiful furniture was a really fun experience and he taught me techniques that I can apply to future projects. He’s a great teacher and I would recommend his services to anyone.

I decided to build a dining table from reclaimed wood . I have experience working with dimensional new lumber but not reclaimed wood. I met with Matt and discussed the possibility of working with him as an instructor to help me with the project. He agreed so we picked the lumber we would use and set up a start. The lumber we chose was from the 107 old May hosiery factory in Nashville. We started work on the table at his operation in Nashville on a Thursday. Matt and I worked on the table design together then started cutting the lumber. By the end of the day we had glued up the table. By the end of day two it was sanded and ready for finishing. The following day we had completed the two extensions along with the mounting hardware. Matt let me do most of the hands on work with his close guidance. All of the tools needed were supplied by Matt. I learned a lot over the three days and had a great time doing it. Matt is a great instructor and a wonderful person. Thank you Matt! I look forward to working with you again someday.

Matt is an absolute pleasure to work with and his workshop is like a time capsule where you can see wood (and other eclectic items) from 100+ years ago just waiting to be turned into something new. My son loved visiting and Matt took the time to not only engage with him, but show him how he makes things in the shop. Lastly, Matt made a fireplace mantle for me out of an old barn beam and it came out great. It’s a one of a kind piece and if you are looking for something unique, this is the place to go.

What an incredible experience! To find a perfect handcrafted item of quality that fits perfectly in a space being designed is like hitting pay-dirt! Matt is fabulous to work with! He was great with communicating and keeping me up to speed on my hand made bench. I just received delivery at my clients home and it is gorgeous! I’ll be using Matt/Sons of Sawdust in the future when I need beautiful pieces to fill spaces for clients to enjoy for years to come!

Wife and I were super excited to see that the "reclaimed wood place in the quonset hut" (aka Sons of Sawdust) was open. Note they are only open Friday and Saturday (call to confirm hours). We were looking for a unique piece of wood to make a magnetic knife holder and boy was this the right place to be. Matt, the owner, was very pleasant showing us around and explaining the history and types of wood he had available. You can tell he loves his craft - and his inventory was amazing (ask him to see the home flooring from the 1700's that George Washington walked on). After finding a unique piece we decided to have him assist with a few cuts and channeling for the magnets. In less than an hour we had the perfect piece at a reasonable price for the wood and his labor. He also has some really cool tables and benches for sale that are beautiful, and also come with an interesting story. I highly recommend Sons of Sawdust if you want a complete project, rough reclaimed wood, or a partial project to finish at home if you are a semi-handyman like me!

Can't say enough about Matt and Sons of Sawdust! He saved me $650 over another vendor in town for the exact same piece of lumber I was looking for. He was easy to work with and he worked extremely hard to help my wife and I achieve the look we were going for. Definitely check him out if you need custom woodwork or raw lumber! You won't regret it

If there was a way to give more than 5 stars I would do it. Matt was easy to work with and listened to what we wanted. He found a way to find the wood we were looking for even in the midst of this pandemic and the end result was more than we expected. A beautiful custom sized dining table. JUST INCREDIBLE!!

This review is long overdue. Sons of Sawdust made us a custom sofa table a couple of years ago. It is, by far, the sturdiest and coolest piece of furniture I own (it's fun to know the history of the wood that was used). It's holding up perfectly, despite daily use. Customer service was great, too. I plan to purchase a farm table from them in the future -- they're even prettier in person. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sons of Sawdust to anyone.

We decided on the table type and size that we wanted and we were contacted concerning details on the table. We were given a date to expect the table to be finished and it was on time. The table was delivered and set up for us and we think it is beautiful. Matt told us the background on the wood they used for our table. It is quite unique. I had the pleasure of working with Matt and Sons of Sawdust to create the perfect trestle table and bench for my new home. I knew exactly what I wanted and was having trouble finding it. Then I discovered Sons of Sawdust with an internet search and liked what I saw. I exchanged several emails with Matt and then eventually several phone calls as well. I was a little apprehensive to order an item over the phone without ever seeing the company’s work in person. He was able to tell me where the wood was retrieved from to make the table which was an added bonus. The table was made in the exact amount of time I was told. We ordered 3 custom tables for our Innovation Center from Sons of Sawdust and they are amazing! We had specific ideas in mind for some custom details including a built in ruler and hideaway space for a power strip. They were able to accommodate all of our requests. We wanted an authentic looking custom table that could also serve modern work space needs and we got exactly that! These tables truly are a show piece! We could not be happier with their work!

Sons of Sawdust did an amazing job creating a table and benches for us. They were extremely helpful throughout the process and very honest about cost/timing/delivery. They even called to let us know that our table had been completed a few weeks early and scheduled delivery the next day. When I started hunting for a kitchen island, I had no idea I'd be getting a work of art from Sons of Sawdust! I emailed them a photo of something I liked, and Matt drew up plans for an even better piece. I can tell this is a piece of furniture we'll have in the family for a long, long time. The craftsmanship is incredible. But even better, the process was so simple. It took a while from concept to delivery, but every step of the way, this team exceeded my expectations. I worked with Sons of Sawdust to custom build a tapered leg table, and I cannot say enough good things about how great the experience was. Customer service is impeccable - the team walked me through all the options and steps in the process, always consulted with me when they came to a question, offered advice, but also listened and kept what I had in mind as the goal. Even though I worked with several different staff, they each knew where the last person had left off and handled those transitions seamlessly. Matt Hobbs and his team of master craftsmen at Sons of Sawdust designed a piece our family will forever treasure. Some of the most indelible moments of my childhood were spending time with my grandfather as he worked in his barn. Time, weather and elements finally took a toll and collapsed much of the structure. So I salvaged some of its wood and the Sons of Sawdust honored me by making it into an incredibly beautiful table for our porch. I have few possessions with a deeper meaning than this one, and we could not be more grateful for the time, attention, creativity and craftsmanship that the Sons of Sawdust put into this project for us. I recommend them unreservedly.

Just wanted to take a moment to share our experience with the Sons of Sawdust. We ordered a farm kitchen table and bench which they delivered yesterday. We are just thrilled with their work and now having pieces of Georgia history as part of our home. The table and bench were built from reclaimed wood from a barn in Bishop, Ga and the table also had a few pieces from flooring from a home from the 1860's. We contracted with Sons of Sawdust to build us a trestle table for the new house we were building. We wanted the top to be metal with nailhead trim. Throughout the process Matt kept in contact giving us updates and pictures of the work in progress. As they were ready to begin with the metal top, Matt suggested we used galvanizes steel. A few days later he asked if we would like him to distress the metal. The results were amazing! The rust and shading gave our table a unique, rustic look. We could not be more pleased with our table!
