For the last 2 week's I have been going here 2-3 times a day " I literally got rid of 120 feet of privacy fence" Plus 6 years of junk. Never had any trouble, never got a flat tire. The last time I went one of the works waved at me. Kinda made me feel good "not in creepy way"

It is clear from my trip today that there are still people who have never been to the knightsville drop-off. So I added a few map photos and updated the info.
1. Straight up the hill is only for metal
2. You can't turn left, traffic flow is to the right. Wait in line like everyone else, just because you have a lifted F250 doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want
3. The 4 dumpsters to the right are for bagged house hold trash. NOT CARDBOARD BOXES
4. After you pass those 4 dumpster it is pretty much up to the county workers where they want you to throw you lumber (NOT TREES), Mattress, old deck chairs, etc
5. There is a trash compactor for CARDBOARD BOXES. ONLY CARDBOARD, NOT FOAM PEANUTS OR STYROFOAM INSIDE THE BOX
6. There are recycling dumpsters for plastic bottles (TAKE YOUR PLASTIC BAGS TO PUBLIX), Glass bottles, and Aluminum cans.

Some helpful hints update
They now have a cardboard crusher/compactor. Dont leave your plastic in the cardboard boxes.
1. Have your plastic bottles, glass & aluminum/steel cans separated before hand as they go in separate dumpsters
2. They don't recycle plastic shopping bags, take those to Publix
3. Saturday is a bad day to go. Long lines and dumpsters overflowing, but if you get there by 10:00 to you should be okay.
4. Monday, plan on all the dumpsters still being filled from Saturday. At least until noon
5. Don't block the corner near the aluminum can dumpster, pull forward another 2 car lengths so people can leave.
6. They don't take yard debris, take that to the site on Miles/Jamison Rd (T,Th,Sa)
7. The first 3 compactor dumpsters are for kitchen garage, not bags full of glass beer bottles. Take those around the corner
If i could give negative stars i would. This is the worst waste facility i have ever seen. Saturdays they close the gates early. The employees are rude and if you are genuinely spring cleaning and have to make more than 1 trip, they accuse you of collecting trash from other people and ask you to leave. Dorchester County please do better.
I’d like to thank the crew who was working 03/15/2024. My father Hector had a massive heart attack while still in his vehicle. The workers noticed a line behind his vehicle and immediately went to check on him.
Realizing the situation, they promptly removed him from the vehicle and started compressions, while another called for an ambulance.
Unfortunately, he has passed away. But to thank you isn’t enough, although it’s all I can afford. I appreciate you all being there in any capacity to try and help him. He was a fantastic man and will be deeply missed.

This site has the best employees! They are so kind and helpful. Today, we took a wood fence gate and when we were getting ready to lift it into the bin, an employee came right over to us and did it himself! It was heavy and we appreciated his help. We are so grateful for this site and its employees!
Staff keeps it cleaned and orderly. Have not picked up a nail or flat tire at this site. If you are unsure of what goes where just ask most staff are very helpful
I usually try to keep my comments positive, but after today, I can’t see myself using this facility again. Half of my trailer load was refused because it contained a few flower pots and four hay bales. I was then told to drive all the way across town off Gahagan to dispose of them—only to arrive and find that the location was closed.
Now, I’m left with garbage that still needs to go somewhere. Meanwhile, this county just raised my home taxes to over $3,000 per year, yet I still have to drive to three different facilities just to get rid of trash. On top of that, I’m already paying a private garbage service.
Why is the city treated differently from the county when we all pay into the same system? Maybe instead of endlessly raising taxes, the county could use those funds to improve waste disposal services. Berkeley County is running circles around us, and it's embarrassing.
I knew they wouldn’t help me unload because of them getting fatal injury but I brought a couch in a brand new single axle enclosed trailer, and they would not let me unload it.
I had no problem, going home, unloading the couch and putting it in a utility trailer and going back to the landfill and unloading it.
If they would’ve explained to me the rules instead of hollering for me to turn around and get out, I would’ve been great.
Normally, excellent, but needs oversight. They have erected a station complete with table, umbrella, chairs on the ramp to offload metal. This impediment made it impossible to get close enough to the wall/container to assure a safe offloading of a 28+ cubic feet refrigerator. I ended up in Urgent Care with a strained back. It should have been easy, but they made it very difficult and dangerous.
Dumpsters for oversized general trash are about 7-8 foot high. Be ready to get those heavy items over head or have a truck with a high enough bed to stand in for help. Ramps for offloading heavy items have been metal only for a couple years now.
It's well set up. They don't clean the ground obviously because it always smells and they have a carpet in front of one of the trash collectors that all the polluted water coming out of the dumpster drains onto. It makes us smell really awful.
Been in and out of here on several days. Easy enough to bring trash and recyclables…if you have a question, be polite and ask the folks there. Never personally had any issues
This location is a nightmare now. A year and a half ago they removed the section for construction and bulk debris from the ramp saying that it was temporary or they did repairs and then never put it back. It's mismanaged and always difficult and usually full.
This place just keeps getting better. The whole place is finally paved, no more stinky muddy areas. They finally have a better cardboard bin, no more breaking down boxes and stuffing them in a small slot. Lot more organized...
It's Saturday. I visit the center regularly and note that the corrugated board/box dumpsters are almost always filled close to or overflowing.
I am not a recycling expert, but my suggestion would be to investigate the availability of some type of compression system for corrugated materials.

This center is easy to get to and takes a wide range of materials. The facility is easy to navigate, the hours are convenient and I have never had issues with not enough space. As long as you don’t have to interact with any of the people working there, you’ll be fine.
First time there, staff was atrocious. All I want to do is help save the world one bag of recycling at a time and the guy that was designated to direct recycling was no help. He could hardly be bothered to get off his lawn chair and get his face out of his phone but to tell me that I was I was doing something wrong or moving too slow. The guy directing recycling on the morning on 9/8/17 at approximately 830 am, terrible.
