Dropped our boat off in May and can’t even get a phone call. Job was supposed to take 3 to 4 weeks. Hopefully when we get it back it will be worth the wait.

Absolutely a horrible person experience getting excuses for over 4 months. After supposedly fixing the boat initially picked it up went and water tested my self and boat never preformed close to what Micheal had said he was able to get on the test ride. Weeks and weeks of back orders or wrong parts or what ever gave a reasonable excuses. Had to pull the boat from the shop as I wouldn’t be at his mercy any longer. What was supposed to be a simple tune up and fuel change turned out to be the worse experience I’ve had with a shop. My interior is ruined my gauges are rotted and he blames me. For not covering the boat. Man it was suppose to be a weeks service not a year long boat storage. My speaker was stolen as well supposedly he has no clue. But judging by the untrained young employees I think I’d find my speaker on someone’s Jon boat local. Hmmm

Under new ownership, Michael gave my friend a great deal for service in her motor and was willing to offer advice over the phone. I will add another review as I took my boat to them yesterday to diagnose and service and Took the time and had great patience with me as a new boater and bought this boat used this season.

Michael and the folks are outstanding at what they do...customer service was spot on! They were very helpful in getting me what was needed...a huge thanks to the team there, I will not be taking my business anywhere else!

I brought my boat to this shop for repair because it was not running properly. He charged me 2700 in repairs and the boat still did not work. I brought it back and he said he fixed it again and it still did not work. This was very frustrating as I got stra6ned on the water the second time I got it out of his shop. I had someone else look at it and even though he said he replaced the head gaskets my motor was blown. He charged me to do a bunch of repairs on a blown damn motor and said it should run fine. Then refused to give me any money back stay away from this mechanic.

I took my 18' Sea Hunt to Dan Whitton for an oil change and to install a new GPS. He returned my boat with someone else's used GPS on it. The motor ran terrible and I later found out there was no oil in the engine. DO NOT TAKE YOU BOAT HERE!!!! Terrible boat mechanic.

The management and staff are extremely rude and the business location is poorly kept. I would not recommend this business to anyone.

I brought my boat to Dan, the owner at Whitton Marine, in Oct of 2015 immediately after spending the day on the water. It was my first boat and I had spoken to Dan earlier in the week about giving it a "tune up". The boat ran great, but since I bought it used I thought it'd be a good idea to have it looked over and see if it needed any general maintenance. Over the phone he quoted me around $250 and said he'd call if it would be more. Upon dropping it off, I asked if he could give me an estimate on a few things. In addition to speaking with him, I left a typed list of work that I wanted estimated. It included adding a second battery, replacing a gauge, and a few other miscellaneous items. After a couple weeks I hadn't heard anything, so I called. Dan tells me he went ahead and did nearly all the work on the list! I was in shock. I asked if he read the paper, which had PLEASE PROVIDE ESTIMATES in bold and underlined across the top. He looked at the paper I had left while on the phone and apologized, but the work had already been done. He wouldn't tell me the total over the phone and asked that I come to the shop. I came immediately after work that day. The total was over $1800! Under no circumstance was I prepared to pay that much money, but Dan offered no alternative but to pay the balance. Some of the work wasn't entirely complete so I made a partial payment and paid the rest a week or so later. The next time we took the boat on the water it was the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The weather was great and we had family in town. We launched the boat and idled out to the Wando River, but upon giving it some gas, the engine died. It proceeded to sputter and die a number of times, refusing to go over 5 MPH. I called Dan from the water and he said, "I'm on vacation, buddy. Call me on Mon," and hung up on me. In no business environment have I ever been treated so poorly. In that moment, Whitton Marine had trumped every negative experience I'd ever had with a business. Against my good judgment, I ended up bringing the boat back to Whitton because I had already been forced to pay nearly $2k and if he broke something it should be repaired at no charge. My boat sat in their lot for nearly 6 months! After repeated calls, texts, and emails, Dan finally said that he doesn't know what's wrong with my boat, but it's nothing he did to it. He then demanded that I pick up my boat immediately and if I didn't he would start charging storage fees! He had reached a new low. I picked up my boat and brought it to Longshore Boats up the road. After one day, the manager calls me and says a part that was removed at Whitton had been reinstalled backwards! It makes me wonder if my boat was even looked at over the 6 months it sat there. The experience at Longshore was night and day. Needless to say, I'll never use or recommend Whitton Marine for any service.

I've used Dan for over 15 years (3 different boats) and have received nothing but the absolute best service and exceptional customer service. His boat storage is the cheapest I could find and very convenient. All previous work has been started within 24 hours of requesting it and completed immediately after the parts were received. Shop rates are very competitive and you can't put a value on Dan's extensive knowledge and experience
