I went here a while back and they were very rude even when I was super polite the whole time. One of the guys made several dumb comments and stated, "I know you're not a resident here". He told me I had to weigh the car. The person by the gate checked my ID and registration which of course matches. The guy sees me back in the dump disposing my garabe and he looked surprised to see me inside the place unloading. Why work at a place where you are miserable?
The Tall Man was very kind yet quiet. He even let me take his photo and everything, mentioned something about interdimensional beings and needing metal for "Sentinels" went over my head must be industry lingo. Oh yeah they readily take food scraps too!
The guys are always with an nasty attitude and want an full report everything trash I’m dumping , wanted to dump old toilet, the employers said no you can’t dump that here with an very rude voice, attitude and making faces at my father and I.
Today was an interesting day. It was raining when I went at 12pm. There is a middle aged caucasian male who works there. And every time there is an issue. Today he decided he did not want to step out the booth because of the rain but had his eye on me. I discarded my cardboard and moved my vehicle to the commingle. After I dispose my recycling he approached me and stated what I though there was not recycling and if I knew what commingle meant. He later stated what I did was a $1,000 dollar fine and he hopes that I do not receive on in the mail. If he would have done his job and greeted me at the entrance he would have then saw what I was disposing and given me direction. From prior experience with this man I do believe he may have things against people with expensive cars as he appears to always having confrontation with the drives.
The excuse of a man here today Feb 4th 2022 before noon was very unprofessional. Picking on a innocent young man who was working hard to empty his truck fast but that employee was in a bad mood(obviously can tell) and took it out on all the visitors. Complained about garbage that wasn't part of the young man's belongings and made him feel very uncomfortable. That is not how you treat anybody and I believe he needs some re-evaluation and definitely some customer service skills. No excuses for someone who goes to work in a bad mood like that. Makes everyone else look bad.
Tough rules but fair, they have alot to manage with limited staff. I've been to this center a few times each year and never had or seen a problem. I recommend folks checkout the city of yonkers website before coming here to know what you can dispose of as garbage at the recycling center. Half the stuff I thought I needed to go to the center for could have just been left for a curbside pickup.
If you have to go here and you are a woman, I highly suggest bringing a man with you. All three times I have been here by myself I was either followed around by workers who made suggestive comments or I was accused of not being a yonkers resident and yelled at for following their own instructions. I have not had this experience when I brought my brother. Just beware.
You're able to dump anything, within reason at this location. So it's deserving of 5 stars. Just make sure you have your vehicle registration and license handy. There's one particular tall person that he'll be quick to let you know that he's in charge. Just play along and yes him, make him feel good.
I had read some poor reviews before going there and expected the worst. Instead, the worker was polite and helpful. I left feeling pleasantly surprised.
I was going to give these guys 1 star since they were zero help and gave me attitude, but after calling Mayor Mike Spano's helpline and speaking to the call center I see that they have no choice but to turn most people away. The DPW set these regulations so I can only bring very specific items in my tiny car (no rentals accepted either). Both the call center and the guys at the recycling center suggested I go to a private dump. So now I have to pay someone to take my large trash items. I see now why illegal dumping is still a thing. Either way the 3 stars is because they gave me attitude. I get that they hear the same thing everyday and it's not entirely their fault, but I need to ask questions to understand and it's their job to at least try to help.
I had one very bad experience with a wise guy named Joe. He gave me and my bf a very hard time and turned us away to go find another place to dump my old wooden fence. He was nasty.
This place used to accept everything. Now I pay taxes for them to hand me a piece of paper and dispose of items for $200.00. What the hell is going on in this city. My taxes are going up and I have to pay to dump my own trash. This is BS. I was there when someone asked where do I put paint. He got we don’t take paint. He says what do I do with it. Guy says I don’t know. And u wonder why people are going to start illegally dumping. Good job spano. What kick backs r u getting.
