This used to be a great place. Tonight the burger was cold, the bartender never asked if we needed anything, or how our meal was, and quick to clear our plates. There was a lot of staff gathering and chatting not paying attention to servicing the customers. Cold food and horrible service. Perhaps training the staff and management being present would help. Tonight’s experience was very disappointing.

We loved our lunch here! The tavern atmosphere on a Friday afternoon was bustling but not too loud or busy, service was attentive and food came out fast without sacrifice. - The beet, apple, arugula, pickled onion, goat cheese salad was stupidly delicious (I woke up wishing I had another one at my side ready to eat): 5 stars - The fries are *legit* home cut, thick, perfectly seasoned, and fried to the exact right crispiness: 5 stars - The chicken sandwich was really good, though there was (weird to say, I know) quite a bit too much chicken on it. The other accoutrements on the sandwich were delicious and we just tossed the extra chicken into my salad so not a deal breaker. Can't believe we've lived here so long without dropping in, but so glad we did! (Only note: avoid the $18 Old Fashioned. Not worth it for the price point.)

Last night will probably be the last time we ever frequent the place. First we get there and it’s 63°in the dining room. Shoulda got up and left right then and there. Secondly, we ordered the ratatouille salad for starters-which was very good. I always request bread with it which we never got.Thirdly, and worst of all, they brought the salads and the entrées out at the same time, instead of staggering them. They offered to take the entrees back into the kitchen, where they would have stayed under heat lamps for 20 minutes. Just an awful dining experience.

When we make our annual fall pilgrimage to Orange County we always have lunch at the tap house and have been doing so since it was the Barnsider. They have a few tables outside which is nice to enjoy a beautiful fall day in sugar loaf. The food is fresh, hearty and well prepared and the staff is very friendly. They have an extensive menu for food and drinks.

Fiona was an amazing waitress. Such a pleasure to have her as our waitress I’m very thankful for her kindness and hospitality. The food was lovely and the environment was so charming. ☺️ Great job!

The food is fantastic. They always have new and interesting specials. The service was wonderful. I've eaten here multiple times now and I absolutely plan on going back.

Amazing place. Parking lot was packed but still had room to serve a table of 10 as a walkin in the upstairs dining area (which was beautifully rustic). Food made even the pickiest of eaters happy. Also, the gluten free options were spectacular 10/10 recommended!!

We've had several good meals here but seems to be hit or miss. Tonight ordered ahi tuna over Risotto with stir fried vegetables and a teriyaki glaze. Tuna was good but the rest was slop. It was a soup of just plain rice,veg and sooo much sauce (not a glaze) awful $29. Waiter was nice beer was cold.

Update 7/31/2025: Told you we'd be back! Went here on Saturday July 19th 2025 with my parents for a much needed dinner. Decided to go to this place because we haven't been here in a while. Be forewarned, it can still get crowded. Went inside, and there was a line at the host stand, however, we were sat right away at a booth. Server greeted us right away, and She was very pleasant. started with 3 waters, I ordered the Giggle Juice cocktail, my mom ordered the pineapple Margarita, and my dad ordered a titos with sprite. Our drinks came out in a timely manner, and there was something in the drink, but the server fixed it right away and made a new one. Looked over the menu, and decided on The Veggie Burger. Can't remember what my dad or mom ordered unfortunately. But our server took great care of us and constantly checked on us, including how the food was going! We all enjoyed our food and highly recommend Sugar Loaf Taphouse if you are in the area! Paid the check via a credit card and left a cash tip! Would definitely be back if we are ever in the area! Before i start been here before prepandemic, loved their shepard's pie, which am glad to see that they still have. This is a taphouse, so they have lots of local beers, and a beer from vermont actually too! Went here on Thursday March 21 2024 to grab a bite to eat before seeing a show at The Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center which is nearby. Before we left our house,we did call the restaurant to see if there was a wait, they said there wasn't one, however, by the time we got there, they asked us to wait 20-25 minutes. We went to the bar and was able to eat there. Bartender was very nice, as we all started with waters and titos with sprite. We started with the Irish Nachos special, which were interesting as they had corned beef in their nachos. they were not bad and different. For our entrees, my dad ordered a cheeseburger cooked m, i ordered a veggie burger, and i forget what my mom order. Entrees were very good and enjoyable. i enjoyed my veggie burger! only feedback i would provide is that the server/bartender should have made sure i wanted fries with that, because i saw sweet potato fries, and may have wanted that instead. Other than that we had great service at the bar, and enjoyed our food. We also ordered dessert, a brownie with chocolate ice cream on top! That was tasty! paid our bill with a credit card, and left a cash tip. Also used the restrooms this visit, and the front restroom was not flushing, but they had a bathroom upstairs which was very clean, and all was working. Hope to be back another time!

Great little place in Chester, NY. Excellent cocktails, great local red wine options. Plenty of food options to choose from and there is parking.

Visited here while on vacation. The whole family loved it here. Food was delicious and portions were big. Took leftovers home and they did not go to waste. We had our 4 kids with us and there were plenty of kid friendly menu options. We enjoyed the atmosphere as well. They had music playing at a decent level where you could hear it without it being too loud you couldn't hear each other talk. The wait staff were all kind and friendly as well,

Great casual dining establishment. They were able to seat a party of ten on short notice. We recieved excellent service and our waitress was attentive and checked in on us often. Noise level was not overwhelming and we were able to hear each other from opposite ends of the table. The food was delicious! Highly recommend the shrooms appetizer, and the meatloaf wellington. I never thought I'd like meatloaf, but this was delicious. The Giggle Juice cocktail is also a great choice! On the way out I noticed that they had dog water bowls stashed under a serving cart. This indicates to me that this place is dog friendly and I love this.

This place is Awesome! I love Yap houses and this one i would definitely go to again. I had the Drunken Mussels, they were the best my wife and I ever had! She even brought the left over sauce home, it was that good. We got the Rib sliders, Excellent. We got the Triple burger, I think that's what it was called, Excellent! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone that wants good food, drinks l, and atmosphere.

If you want a classic pub atmosphere and great food and service, look no further. Highly recommend the fish tacos. Alex took care of us at the bar and served a great lunch gathering with friends.

Stopped here for lunch on holiday. Was hesitant since it was only 1 of 2 choices near by. OMG so glad we stopped here! Tried a meatloaf Wellington and everything was homemade in house! The Apple Crisp too! And the Carmel sauce. Prices were reasonable for the quality as well

We had such a great time. our waiter was awesome. The food and drink were very good. Definitely need to stop by and see for yourself. And the two is a bonus visit.

Spent the morning at Woodbury Commons buying some new clothing and wanted to go for a tasty, healthy meal (so I could fit into the clothes I just bought). Met a friend who lives in the area at the Sugar Loaf Taphouse. Besides it being in a really cute little town, walking distance from a few other shops, the place was perfect for lunch. There were a lot of great options, including gluten free choices, and the portions were large. I had a grilled chicken salad and my friend had a turkey burger with a side of veggies. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff were warm and friendly. There were plenty of choices for seating and you didn’t feel like you were right on top of other patrons. It was a casual place to catch up with a friend and the prices were also extremely reasonable. Next time I am back up for shopping, I know the place to go!

Seated quickly, food came quick and it was very good. Even dessert was good. Atmosphere was cozy.

Consistently good food here. Everything I had here has been fantastic. This time was the filet mignon sliders, perfectly cooked with tasty horseradish mayo.

Amazing food and atmosphere. Great spot to eat at if in town. The village here is so cute too!

This was my first visit. Parking is plentiful (on a Tuesday). I imagine that weekends would be a bit more congested as Sugar Loaf cranks up the weekend Artisan exhibits and stores. Either way and whatever day you are passing through, check out the Taphouse. Ambiance was very rustic and inviting. They have the same barnsiding on the walls as I have in my home, so it is a nice motif in my opinion. The service was timely and very professional. No mishaps were noted. The food is a blend of American food kicked up a notch. We ordered the crab cakes appetizer. They were delicious but did not have the typical lumps of crab I am accustomed to. Not a deal breaker but rather a constructive criticism. Hello Chef! Main entrees were Horshradish Crusted Wild Salmon with veggies and rice pilaf, and Fish & Chips. My wife claims it was one of the better cooked and seasoned pieces of salmon she has had (except mine, of course ?). It was also a decent sized piece. Veggies were cooked to a very nice snap. Pilaf was very tasty but a little on the cold side. Again, not a deal breaker. The Fish & Chips was a treat. A really nice crisp to the batter and not soggy like in some places. The fish was cooked perfectly, white, lite and fluffy. The chips (aka fries) were really good. Not grease soaked and they were seasoned perfectly. If you are there during the Ocktoberfest season, try the Ocktoberfest Lager. I thought it was a pretty good compliment to the Fish & Chips. A point worth noting; cash paying patrons save 4.5% credit card fees. The menu prices are the cash prices. It was interesting to read some of the older posts that claimed a 1 star rating. Not sure if it was the staff, chef or a combination of both on those days. It behooves the owner to verify who was on shift those days and have a heart to heart with them. Anyway, we give them a 5 star rating ths time, my first time. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. This one was great! Visit the Taphouse! I will be visiting again soon.

I was surprised about the restaurant. My niece directed me her. We first ordered two bottles of Matua. Then a grilled salmon salad,2 chicken parmigiana, 1 beef short rib,fish and chip,chicken Milanese, kid sliders,pizza,etc. The food was good.

?Very nice place to dine for 1 or small groups. Service was very polite and welcoming ?. I got the usual. A chicken sandwich ?? and the beverage of my choice ?. It was above average. ?? The ceiling height in the restaurant is a little low and space is rather tight given what it is but no worries the service is very warm and friendly ? ?☝️ Recommend as visit or few! ?

Never disappointed when I eat here. From the atmosphere, service, and taste of the food Sugar Loaf Taphouse is an establishment that makes you want to make multiple visits to experience everything they have to offer. Picked this place specifically to celebrate my anniversary and every element added to making this day a special one.

Edit: 10/18 I'm upping my review to 5 stars. Tonight's food was so high quality. Try their specials! Vast menu with creative twists, like meatloaf Wellington! Awesome variety of liquors and on tap beers are not run of the mill!

The venue is gorgeous and cozy. Wings were a little chewy. Rest of the food was absolute delicious though! Service was great, very attentive and nice. Bathroom was super cute. I added a picture of the stall door, lol. (Garlic bread tower, fish tacos, and wings in picture)

Food is tasty! The Seafood Risotto was a delight. The burger was not over average, the Chicken Pot Pie was delish but didnt look like pie but soupy filling with a pastry square on top. Their fig and pig flatbreat was tasty and yet i was longing for little zing on it. Their tap selection of local beer is very good and they offer samplers. They old barn decoration makes a great comfortable atmosphere. They have more room than it seems from the outside
