For a beginning metal worker just learning to stick weld and braze, this place is a gold mine. Scrap in every shape and length that they will even cut for you for a reasonable fee. Sold by the pound. Open on Saturdays too.

Run a fab shop, when I need a particular material they always have it at a great price. I'm never inyard for more than 20mins - excellent service.

Good selection of remnants. Great selection of steel aluminum and other materials at fair prices. Convenient access to location. They cut for you also for a fair price.

The guy at the sales desk is a real jerk. He lacks any and all professionalism. I called to get pricing for one piece of metal tubing. It was difficult to understand the pricing he was quoting so I asked him to repeat himself. He repeated, but it was still difficult to understand him. I tried repeating back what I thought I heard and that's when he got very, very mean. He was EXTREMELY rude. He even said to me multiple times, "What's the matter with you?" and "My god, what's your problem?" He spoke out each number, but because of his aggravated tone, the numbers were also unintelligible. Unfortunately for him, it seems, his accent is strong which makes it sometimes hard to understand him. This isn't the first time either. He has demonstrated the same behavior with no patience at the in-store sales counter. This isn't the first time he was quick-fused and rude to me, but it is the last. I was nothing but professional and nice to him as I was trying to understand him. I even told him he was being rude, but he still continued. It's unfortunate because I really like Clackamas Steel and have been a loyal shopper there for years. I also like supporting local small businesses. No more. I am taking my business elsewhere because of him. I will not tolerate someone talking to me the way he did. I'm sure I'm not the only person he treats like this. He has a problem. I would never accept this behavior in an employee of my company and I hope the owner of Clackamas Steel feels the same and makes changes before more customers are lost. If I learn that he's gone, I may someday return. Thanks.

Alberto, is extremely arrogant and rude! He does not know how to talk to a customer with respect. He has a thick accent so it’s difficult to understand him. I asked if he could please repeat something, he got upset and decided to yell.

This is a very well organized and clean setting as well as could be for a recycling center,..many bins, to find just what you need, a plenty more, of items to meet your job or project..

Love these guys, always helpful, and more than friendly enough considering the environment! While I’ve been there I’ve overheard a lot of unreasonable customers, I’m guessing that can get to a person, I know the last few years have definitely worn me down a bit. Be polite, do your own homework, and practice respect, and I suspect your experiences with your fellow humans may improve…

In the past 10 years I've been to Clackamas Steel more times than I can really justify to myself given how rude and unhelpful they can be. The man who works in the office acts like he despises being there. Their cut charges have always been on the high end but their recent increase to $5 PER CUT regardless of the thickness of the material is the final straw for me. [EDIT: I read it is now $10 per cut regardless of thickness; unbelievable] If you want new steel, or smaller remnants, I strongly recommend Eastside Steel instead. I've been there about 10 times in the past couple of months and each time their staff have been incredibly helpful and friendly. A bonus is that their prices on new steel seem to be about 20-30% cheaper than Clackamas' and their cut charges are proportional to the thickness of what they are cutting (starting at $1 for thin material like 3/4" tube). Clackamas Steel does have a large amount of scrap, it's all sitting out in the open and so is heavily corroded but if this is what you're looking for and you can get in/out without having to have much interaction with the staff, then it may work for you but I owe it to myself to stop going.

If you want to be disrespected and insulted by the guy running the place for no apparent reason other than wearing a mask, then this is the place for you. Yes they have good prices, but at what cost?

An extremely well sorted place with some fantastic staff. I goofed up from the touch down to parking at the wrong place. They have fresh metal steel, aluminium, some copper too and loads of reusable scrap. The guys met me outside and eased me in, explained me how the place was sorted and where I could find the best bargain stuff as well as how things worked at 5he place. 5 stars to the place and 7 stars to the people here. A huge shout out to Mathew!

They have enough material and good prices but the cashier could be more kind or if he doesn't want to just be more respectful and patience.

Hours are NOT M-F 8-5. It's Tuesday, I was there just before 4:00pm - gate locked, no one answering the phone. Guess they just decided they didn't want to be open, and I wasted 2 hours driving there and back. This place is a joke. I will take my business anywhere else even if the prices are higher.

Selection is limited, but their prices are better than most of the places around. I make furniture and lawn ornaments, so often enough I am able to use a lot of their scrap pieces which they sell for 0.60 cents per pound. The last purchase was some 3/4 16 gauge square tubing that was 1.06 per foot. Everywhere else around town wanted nearly double that along with the cutting fees, so saved myself about $160 on my last commission

I was just there today and I had a great experience. They cleaned up the lot so there is an excellent parking area now! The guy behind the counter was pleasant and was smiling. The guys doing the cutting for me were quick and efficient. Their prices were just fine too. This is a great place for a hobbyist because they seem to have a small selection of just about everything there.

I work down the street and needed a piece of steel. They had it for a good price and cut it to size while I waited which was like 10 minutes. They've gotten us out of a jam several times and I appreciate their efforts.

I want to say to anyone thinking of not coming here because of the reviews, just give it a try for yourself and see. I will admit I have not encountered anyone that I would call friendly here, but that's alot of places now days and I have definitely never witnessed anyone get yelled at or disrespected in any way. I've been treated fairly, the guys cutting the new steel loaded my stuff up in my truck for me, that right there is more then the "depot" guys will do. They have good prices and awesome REM. I will definitely continue to come here

I just called them to ask if they sold burn barrels, gentleman said " yes but they have a lead on them" I said "a lead?" He said "no a lead" so I said "ummm" he went " a l.i.d." I said "oh ok a lid" he said "Jesus Christ" I hung up. I was absolutely ready to buy a barrel from them because I need one for my backyard, but this guy was a straight jerk. I'm sorry your accent is so thick I couldn't understand. And I wasn't mad at him at all, or rude. Oh well, they must be doing so good they don't need my business or money.

Changed ownership a few years back and immediately cleaned out and shipped off a lot of scrap stuff. Did not have as much "interesting" scrap to pick through for a while, but they seem to have built up more scrap lately. Metals have become valuable and scrapping for profit has increased with the new economy reducing how much scrap comes here. I understand why some customers found the new office manager relatively frustrating, but it has improved and now customer service is good. Prices have been changing a lot and now buy prices are not always posted. Sell prices are posted outside the office door, without the world 'sell'. I also live in Phoenix AZ in winter and the yards there have posted 'buy' prices of various metals at the gate, like a filling station, lots of competition, but mostly they do not sell scrap at all. Posting buy prices and being competitive with the nearby recycler would be nice to see. So this is a good place for buyers to check out!

I was a little worried on my first visit to this place because of some of the reviews here. Apparently things have gotten better recently, and my experience was positive. The yard has a semi-circle driveway with specific (marked) entrance and exit. After entering, there is a sign directing you to the left, that also says "park along left side". You pull forward facing the building and park. I was looking for scrap stuff, so I went inside to ask how it works. The summary is: most everything between the driveway and the street is scrap in bins (it's obvious). You can paw through it on your own and pick out what you want. When ready, go put the stuff on one of the two scales out in front of the office and go inside. They will charge you $0.60 (as of July 2019) per pound. You pay and grab your stuff as you walk out. $5 minimum for use of a credit card. I was the only one there in the afternoon of a weekday. It was low-pressure and easy. I'll be back.

I spoke with Alberto and his customer service was extremely rude arrogant. I could not hear him and he chose to yell into the phone and I asked him to not talk to me that way I am a customer and he chose to talk over me and began to yell in the phone again. I said I am a customer I deserve better. He said you won’t tell me what you want I told him I no longer need his services because he was extremely rude.

I make my own home projects, and I like customization. I go here and look through the scrap bins, use my imagination as to what I find may work. I've been here probably a dozen times and never had a problem. I've never needed to buy brand new piece of steel, so I would think that if you needed new and you haven't had great success here, I'm pretty sure there are other steel yards in the Portland area that specialize in brand new steel or other metals. The nice thing about the scrap bins is you grab what you need, weigh it, and it's never cost much money.

Asked if they had a certain size, the male employee on the phone mumbled something and I couldn't understand through the accent, I repeated myself and re-asked the question, again he repeated himself but this time yelling at me, I replied to tell him I don't understand and he just hung up. This place either has 1 star or 5 star reviews, we all know the 5 star reviews are mostly fake, just saying.

I have been coming to this yard for years, alway talked to a gal that has been very cordial and helpful but this time I went to the office and there was a spanish guy setting in a chair. I have never experienced such a rude , obnoxious and unprofessional jerk in over 40 years of doing business. Not only did he refuse to give me the owners contact info but he also refused to give me info and pricing for the steel I was looking for. To the owner why is this person still working for you and running customers. away. This guy should be walking down the road kicking rocks, unemployed.

Every kind of project metal you could imagine, in plate, sheet, rod, and tube form, and in just about every thickness. A great selection of steel rod and sheet and diamond plate aluminum. Lots of different kinds of stainless steel. As for the customer service, they've always been okay to me. Not exceptional, but not bad. The prices seem fair to me, generally. From what I've seen so far, where you would really save is by choosing this place over a hardware store for sheet metal, steel rod, or angle iron.

Was treated rudely by man at counter on numerous occasions. Not always open when they say they are open. Wasted a trip over there today, my only day I can go there during the week and they are closed. They do have a great selection at decent prices.

Great place to go as long as you know what you want. The crew outside is very quick and very helpful. Large selection of metals and will cut the length for you if needed. I get so many ideas on projects when I leave there. Jamie & Deanna custom fence design.

Old fashioned steel YARD with decent selection of surplus and used steel and aluminum. Everything is outdoors in racks in the the gravel mud lot as real men intended, not in a pretty building. This is not Home Depot or Lowes, it is a place for fabricators who know what they want and appreciate being left alone, not prissy dilettantes who need their feelings validated.

Family owned and just great people!!! I LOVE this place... they buy scrap but MOST importantly they sell it =) They have lots of new steel and for a lot of my projects they have used as well... bins and bins of the stuff!!! All shapes and sizes I never know what I will find there... last time I checked it was $.30 a pound... makes the projects MUCH less expensive!!! I get all sorts of ideas just walking around this place... hundreds of ideas and great prices on everything!!! Bring your gloves, tape measure and some cash because this place will take some time to walk through and help you cut and load it... 5 stars all the way!!! LOVE IT!!!
