On my last visit this week, a very friendly checkout woman helped me and a very kind guy bagged my groceries into my bags. Great!

Self checkout always causes issues. Will not be stepping foot in this store again.

My go to spot for the basics and surprises, I love the meat and fish department as well. Always clean and they have clean baskets which I always look for when I'm shopping. Regular checkout and self checkout moves pretty quickly. Oh, and they have an elevator.

It's a confusing mess of a store, but everything you need is there... somewhere.

Chris at customer service is perfect. What a great attitude to balance out the Grinchy attitude of folks at the museum I was at today (Christmas Eve 2025). I just wanted to soak up and spread his awesome energy. Something tells me he's always like this.
And yes, the store had what I need. Glad it was open. Kudos!Dec 27, 2025 -
My go-to store, well actually THE only store I shop at for food! The quality is excellent, the variety is very good and improving. The deli, meat, fish, bakery, fruits & vegetable and cheese "counters" are staffed with friendly and helpful people. The cashiers are friendly and efficient. The customer service staff are extremely helpful and understanding. Management is also friendly and helpful. When I "complained" that my favorite rotini shrimp salad wasn't available for weeks, they brought it back! It is crowd at times and there are lines at times. I find the quality, variety and staff make the occasional waits well worth the food I bring home. Now, I should change this to a single star and complain about the store, so that the occasional waits disappear and the occasional "out of stock" items is reduced, but that wouldn't be fair or honest. I look forward to seeing your there! No I don't work for Fairway. But I shopped at the very first Fairway back in the 1970s on Broadway, when they only sold fruit and vegetables.

I initially went into Fairway to buy Chonani’s 30 G Protein Vanilla Ice Cream Yogurt, which is hard to find and often very expensive to buy in some of the other supermarkets in Manhattan. I’ve paid as much as $7. However at Fairway it was reasonably priced at around $4! As a result, I ended up having a delightful shopping experience and bought lots of different items including beautiful carnations that were also very reasonably priced.

Been going here for 2 years.
Today the self checkout worker a short, older lady had an mean attitude with me and wife for every small thing we asked.
After about 10 minutes of her attitude, I told her that this was a horrible experience and started to get frustrated.
On the flip side we always have a great experience with Clara.
But this worker made me not want to shop there anymore even after 2 years of exclusively shopping at Fairway.Nov 28, 2025 -
Ms. Rios is always well-mannered and professional. She’s fairly new, but she consistently treats us with kindness and respect. Every time I visit, she assists right away, greets me warmly, and makes me feel welcome. I usually come with my aunt, and she always treats both of us with the same level of respect and care. Her attitude and service stand out in a positive way.

I recently visited the Fairway Store on East 86th Street in my neighborhood. I am a NYC Public School teacher since 1993. I also am a 9/11 responder serving our city for 9 months and subsequently a Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy responder. I am suffering from an intensely painful neurological condition which I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I took my 10 lb dog to Fairway, encased in a zipped up container to shop for groceries and was met with the Most Outrageous Disrespectful treatment by Fairway personnel. , An employee threw mu groceries onto the shelf and took the cart screaming “This cart must be sanitized!” As if Any of the carts are sanitized Ever. How dare you !

I had one of the most horrible experiences at this Fairway which I go to nearly everyday to pick up fresh groceries to cook. Yesterday, I was at the store to buy a pack of salmon and a few fresh vegetables to prepare for dinner. Before I purchased the salmon, I specifically quadruple checked with the fishmonger and the Fairway representative guy (Jerome?) who is always at the store offering his assistance to the customers in the store to see if the salmon is skinless since it wasn’t stated or printed on the packet. The fishmonger and Jerome kept telling me many times that it is skinless as it is a “filet.” After confirming it many times and I asked about 4 times to make sure it is skinless. To my disappointment, the salmon’s skin was still intact and I was prepping my dinner for the night. I had to pull out the skin on my own with force as I’m not a fishmonger and experience with de-skinning the salmon, a quarter of my fish was ruined. Also, as I don’t know how to take out the skin properly, the fish was still attached with this dark layer which caused it to be extremely fishy. It was such a waste because dinner was ruined and fish was too fishy to be eaten. Today I went back to the store to pick up a fresh baked French baguette and charcuterie. I saw Jerome again and told him my disappointment with the salmon with the skin issue. I showed him the picture and he was apologetic and offered to refund for a store credit. He walked with me to two ladies at Fairway who is some sort of manager and they said there is nothing they could do. The fish does have skin and I need to ask the fishmonger at the seafood counter to take off the skin, although Jerome confirmed and told her that I was told by the store fishmonger that it is “Skinless.” I was so embarrassed and wasted my breath just talking to the useless, incompetent team of Fairway. She didn’t apologize at all and kept pretending that she doesn’t know what her team (Jerome) was talking about. I am utterly disgusted with her and how she managed the entire situation.

I am disappointed with the repeated pricing issues at this supermarket. Several times I have picked up items clearly marked with a discount, but at checkout I was charged the original, higher price. When I brought it to the attention of the employee, I was told that the scanner showed the original price and that if I wanted proof, I should go back to the stand and take a picture of the label myself.
As a customer, I expect the shelf price to match what I’m charged at the register, and it should not be my responsibility to gather evidence. This has happened more than once, and it feels misleading and frustrating. I hope management takes this seriously and ensures that the prices displayed on the shelves are honored at checkout.Sep 06, 2025 -
I visited Fairway Market on 86th Street on August 15, 2025, and had an extremely unprofessional experience. I asked about a particular item, and employees Eddie and Nancy gave dismissive, inconsistent answers. Eddie then escalated the situation by repeatedly harassing me, even shouting across the store while I was speaking to a manager, Shawn. His behavior was aggressive, intimidating, and made me feel unsafe as a customer.
Another manager, Sonia, brushed off my concerns, while only Luisa showed professionalism. The bakery department was chaotic, the environment felt hostile, and the staff clearly lack proper training. I strongly warn others to be cautious when shopping here.Aug 20, 2025 -

The people that work here are rude. It is Wednesday night June 4. I was at Fairway at about 830.The checkout staff, particularly the girls, displayed a rude attitude that is unacceptable. One girl even said, "I told you to wait a second," and I was taken aback by her tone. Customers should never be spoken to in such a disrespectful manner. When another staff member came over to ask what had happened, she was just as dismissive. I took my receipt from her, and then a male employee interjected, telling me how to take the receipt. The behavior I witnessed is unprofessional, and it seems like there are serious issues with the staff. I will never go to the store again, and if I could file a bigger complaint, I totally will. They need to retrain and rehire new staff.

Wow!!! The rudest service (!!!). Prices on the labels are not matching up to the prices at the checkout. No managers are supervising, or seems to care. Incredibly expensive as well, for the same stuff you can get cheaper even at Whole foods. Wow. So disappointed

I dropped by to buy gluten-free pie crusts, as Key Food and Whole Foods don’t stock them. They’re a bit pricey at $6.89 each, but they have them, along with a lot of other gluten-free grocery items.
Grocery prices look a bit higher here. Self checkout is fast and convenient.Mar 12, 2025 -
Overpriced and engineered to make you spend money on things you don't need. I used to come for their coffee only. It was a miserable experience because more often than not, you have to beg another employee to find the person running the machine and this can take about 20 minutes of awkwardly standing around and hoping and praying. Sadly the other employees are usually not understanding about needing assistance at the coffee machine. I was willing to put up with that for their prices (despite the coffee being much better at Starbucks) but when I was one day told that it's my job to grind the coffee beans in the coffee machine myself, that's when I decided to pay more to get better coffee at Starbucks on 90th and 1st, where they are happy to grind the beans for you every time.

Ummmm the purpose of self checkout is to let me check myself out. I came in to make a late night purchase and I im cashing out. I walks up to the scanner and an older associate pulls my cart . she pulled out the scanning gun and was about to scan my items . I stopped her and told her I could scan my own stuff.
So I start off to scan my mozzarella pearls that I thought was 8.99 under the tag but it was 12.99. So I told this older associate that I’m going to get something else. I run back and she emptied my cart. I continue to scan and an assistance needed sign pops up. She returns and a recording of me scanning pops up. So she’s counting the items I scanned and nothing is missing so she puts her code in. I felt like she was doing too much hovering and next time I will have an associate at the regular register scan my stuff because she was moving like an associate/ security guard when it came to a certain race of people.Jan 30, 2025 -
Prepared to be disappointed. Fairway used to be a great store, but they are not equipped for the modern age. I’ve ordered multiple times from Instacart and every time I place an order item shows in stock on the Instacart site and are canceled by shoppers stating that there is no inventory available. Inventory accuracy is a major issue at Fairway and they’re not doing anything about it so if you like spending money on delivery fees, only to have the majority of your items canceled then this is the place for you.

Overall it's not bad and I visit it quite often. However, I found a pasta which was expired 6 months ago on a shelf, I took them out, and informed one of the employees. She apologized, promised to inform the responsible person and remove them from the store. The next day the expired product was on the shelf again.

A huge selection of snacks, baked goods, and other groceries at this supermarket. You can find the intensity of Takis delivered here every week!

As a local resident, ive been here a billion times. I dont love the layout, it feels a bit maze-y, especially the bottom floor. I like the upper west side location much better, but admittedly that location does use their upstairs space very well (quite difficult to get to) and the lines are longer and block customer traffic. But i like that butcher better, and i know where everything is. This UES location has a huge produce section, but whole foods is so close by and ive noticed has better prices. Which is just wild to say.
