What clients say about Whole Foods Market in New York (NY)

Went to get my market plate as usual and I asked for my meat to be sliced and the younger guy working said yes and then immediately put it in the box without cutting it. Then he printed the label out and instead of handing me the box he left it right next to the scale

My sister and I have been to this place and had that there were many people in this store and that both of us went into the store and bought some produce like vegetables and yogurt. The store sells organic and non-organic produces. The people in there were nice, kind, friendly and helpful.

Went into the store to buy soup. There was no soup. An employee told me it would be a 15 minute wait and then they disappeared. Thirty minutes went by another employee came out and told me that the soup I was looking for is not coming out. I asked to speak to a manager. They tried to say something in English but was not understandable so I asked the security guard where the manager is. He said to go to customer service and the prep manager for that department came - a female with the name that rhymes with lice. I could not understand her broken English. She proceeded to chew chips while talking and spitting food in my direction. Very rude unprofessional, and disgusting. Who chews in somebody's face while speaking to them. Unfortunately this location is a reflection of what NYC has become. I've had better service at Walmart. Extremely rude and of you look close, you can see the chips in hand.

Bakery is always empty, bathroom lines are insane. Went in to drop off a package for amazon and the machine was broken and noone was assisting the kiosk for returns

Whole Foods Union Square is undoubtedly my favourite location in the city. Although it tends to be quite crowded most of the time, I still absolutely love it. The store offers an excellent selection of fresh produce, well-organized aisles. Despite the occasional bustle, shopping there remains an enjoyable experience every single time.

Not a comment on this particular location, but on the brand as a whole. I loved WF growing up, but recent trips to their café feel like seeing a ghost. They used to have chopsticks, metal cutlery, and a whole counter of bottled sauces available for the use of anyone purchasing hot food. Now, only salt packets. No hot sauce, no ketchup, no condiments, not even pepper packets. Hell, even their lemon chicken artichoke soup is now just chicken artichoke soup, and twice as bland for it. I don't know man, it's just...kinda sad. Think this might have been my last visit.

WORST prepared food EVER. I would give a negative star is it were possible. So much great food in the area. I’ve had prepared food from Whole Foods before (not this location) it’s always been good. Definitely not the place to get food in Union Square. Save your time and money, go elsewhere. It’s so dry and tasteless now I have to go spend more money….

Whichever lady is working in customer service for the whole foods location at union square today 5th September 2025 at around 1:15pm is not doing her job. First time Whole Foods customer service has been so unhelpful on a call has been with this experience. When I call they answer then put me on hold for a while and never get back. They keep doing this. Please change your staff. Thank you

The black guy who watches the self checkouts next to the food hall harasses customers when they are trying to pay for items. He walked to the wall that overlooks the short tables and proceeded to watch my phone screen over my shoulder. I’m a prime member for 5 years now, teach your employees proper customer service or they’ll get violated the next time I get yelled at. Happened 9/4 18:35 (6:35 pm).

Deli service is appalling. Plenty of staff walking around, but none tending to customers, despite making eye contact and noticing there is a line. The singular employee slicing meat even asked them to help and they didn’t.

This is a fantastic place right in the heart of the City ! You have groceries, lunch, cafe with ample seating – all rolled into one. Their coffee is good and actually less expensive than cafes around here. The food is great — fresh ingredients, caloric information, healthy options and I would say hard-to-beat prices ( $14 for an entree and two sides is the best special ). Their cafe offers 90-minute seating with a table for every group — each table seats four, but they are places side-by-side on the Union Sq side, so large groups can sit here too. And of course the views can’t be beat! The restrooms are a bit small, if there’s one negative.

This Whole Food location is a great place to take a rest during the shopping in the big Apple and go to its 2nd floor. The only thing as needed to improve somehow was its restroom services onsite so why 4 of 5 but in general, a good location for recharging there.

A very large store near subway and opp union square. Three floor store and seating space to have food. Good bakery options. They have escalators in the store. Seating space is at third floor. Veg options also available in entree and sides. We enjoyed our lunch there and carrot chesse cake and berries tart was good.

This bald headed staff seen in the picture on purposely ignored me when I was trying to ask him for help to pull up my Amazon Prime member in-store barcode on the app. He literally walked away from me to another customer at checkout who never asked for help. He has been reported to both in store customer service and corporate.

They need to change all the cooks who are cooking the hot meals. The food is not favorable at all. Most of the hot meal dishes are of mediterranean flavors. All the dishes taste the same, from meat, rice, and even the salad is bland. Whatever happened to good'ol American zesty salad, and good flavored chicken with garlic, parsley, and other American seasoning flavors that we're used to. Please replace these chefs with other who can cook. I'll feel better paying $20 for small handful of meal. Unhappy customer.

The security guards in this place are racist. I had such a bad experience there. This security guard approached me and yelled at me in front of all the customers for not using the store's shopping cart or basket, asking to open and show him my shopping cart. I understand he was doing his job, but he was rude, unprofessional, and racist. Why did he have to embarrass me? Was it necessary to be that loud? All this because I'm Hispanic? I saw him before following me all around the store, making me so uncomfortable, so when he came to me in such a disrespectful way, I asked him his name and he refused to give it to me and his supervisor approached me saying not worry about it that he will handle it. I went upstairs to complain and ask the name of that guy to customer service, and they just apologized, but they refused to give me the name. By the way, the reason why I didn't want to use the store's shopping cart was because I was still afraid for covid19. Yes, I had this experience like a year ago, and I had forgotten to share it here.

I have been shopping here for a decade and never had a problem but on 7/18/2025 a certain security guard made my shopping experience stressful and unpleasant. At around 9:30am I went downstairs to the banana section and while I was picking bananas this security guard just popped up out of nowhere and started standing uncomfortably close to me. It made me feel so uncomfortable that I left and then came back to the banana section after he was gone. The next aisle I went to was the baking products aisle and there he was again just staring down the aisle at me. Finally, at the meat section while I was looking at the chicken this same security guard showed up again and started walking back and forth behind me. I don't know if the large bag I brought with me from CVS had something to do with the behavior of the security guard but I had a receipt to prove I bought those items. Also, this was not the first time I brought a bag with items from another store into Union Square Whole Foods but I never had this happen before. This was the only security guard acting this way. It could be jealousy because I can afford to shop at Whole Foods and I am black. The security guard was also black and some people (from every race) think all blacks are poor and uneducated. When they see an educated, middle-class black person they can't stand it because it exposes their ignorance. On the other hand, if I feel I am being harassed I will report it to the authorities.

Every time I shop here I feel like I've been assaulted financially... I guess that's why they call it whole paycheck. In addition I really don't feel you're getting value for your money as many of the brands they sell that others sell are much more expensive at whole foods. Every time I'm in there and I really don't like to go in there but my wife makes me sometimes or they just have what I'm looking for, I feel like I'm offsetting Jeff Bezos' divorce settlement somehow..

Nice environment and great staff. Clean store and things are easy to find. However I always get the feeling like security profiles me or others and just keep following me around the store or it feels like they are. I go one spot and they are there and I go upstairs and surely enough you see them again. Kinda feels overbearing and makes me uncomfortable.

Very good Whole Foods Market in front of the famous Union Square Park. Well stacked, organized, and has a good salad and hot food section. I had a feeling that some items in this particular store are little bit more expensive than that of Hudson. The security in this store is a bit hiked.

I used to love this Whole Foods, but the location feels a bit run down and honestly a little creepy. The bathrooms are completely disgusting, urine all over the floors, and it seemed like people might be bathing themselves in there. There was also a fight breaking out in the men’s toilet. I understand wanting to have public access bathrooms, but it made me wonder if the store itself is actually clean. I’ve been to this location many times over the last 15-20 years, but I think this was my last visit.

There are seats on the second floor, helpful waiters. The fruit tarts and macarons tasted good

One of my favorite Whole Foods stores. They have a lot of organic varieties. Our family likes them very much. My kids only like the beef and milk here.

Neat clean Whole Foods vibe, cool layout spread over three levels. With escalators to move up and down. Lots for organic and fresh food options. Right across Union Sq park subway exit

The food court area used to be a nice place with a great view.. now it’s full of homeless screaming and sleeping pretty much on 60% of the tables. Sad and unsanitary place. :/

This store has pretty much everything. You pay more here, but you get what you pay for. The meat section is exceptional, with a great selection and quality.

Interesting location. It had everything you expect from whole foods. Fresh bread, hot bar, and personal/ household care items. Just the three floors is inconvenient and the sticking shelves are long and strange. Feels like a discounter or something. But otherwise. It's good.

This location has more space and sufficient seating area for lunch. This store has more cheese selections and better bakery goods.

I love the great food and great service combination. From the variety of good foods, the incredible buffet and the brilliant partnership with Amazon, you guys can now give us even better 'customer services' and that's why I shop there!

What you'd expect from a Whole Foods in terms of offerings and quality. The layout of the store makes for a pleasant shopping experience despite it being constantly crowded. The checkout process is efficient and they have multiple "x items or less lines" which are helpful for when you just need to run in for a couple of things.
