I shop here frequently... usually great although if you go at peak times it's a bit of madhouse. So just be mentally prepared for that. Great selection and great prepared food section.

Rosita the cashier wouldn’t give me four quarters in exchange for $1 dollar bill because it had a slit the size of these fonts. That has to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of or experienced in my life. Like Whole Foods is going to deposit this bill in the bank and the federal reserve is going to penalize or freeze their assets because of a 10 size font tear on a one dollar bill. RIDICULOUS! THANKS ROSITA FOR BEING SUCH A PETTY PERSON BUT KARMA WILL RETURN THE FAVOR! Whole Foods Really needs to teach their cashiers especially ROSITA a little bit of customer service.

I had a really uncomfortable experience here. I genuinely thought my card payment went through and walked away with my headphones on. Instead of calmly letting me know the payment hadn’t completed, the shopkeeper chased after me and spoke to me very rudely. It was an honest mistake and I was more than willing to pay. The aggressive approach was unnecessary and upsetting. A more professional attitude would have gone a long way. Treating me like a criminal and being extremely unpleasant for a genuine mistake is good. Even if I left the store, my card details were already in - so tracing it wouldn’t be hard. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly, approaching me by saying you have to pay you have to pay, when it was a mere pin issue and acting like I’m a criminal and stole from the store is not done.

(James - Produce Manager) I am writing this review as a current customer with serious concerns about the conduct of a black male staff member named James, who works as the Produce Manager at the Union Square location.
My interaction with James began during the summer while I was shopping in-store. We had a friendly conversation and later exchanged phone numbers. At first, he presented himself as kind, patient, charismatic, and emotionally attentive. Over time, however, it became clear to me that his behavior was manipulative and self-serving. He appeared to encourage vulnerability while withholding honesty, frequently contradicting himself, and disengaging whenever accountability was required.
After a disagreement, I chose to stop communicating with him and declined multiple requests to meet in person. I also left the country for a period to reset my life. During that time, he continued attempting to contact me despite being blocked. When I later returned to New York, I encountered him in the store on more than one occasion. I deliberately avoided engagement due to how uncomfortable I felt about his prior behavior and the way he had treated me.
Last week, I contacted the store regarding an item. Coincidentally, the call was routed to him. He asked me to return around 7:15 p.m., when he was getting off work, stating he would help locate the items. When I arrived, he offered to purchase the items for me and then immediately asked me to go to his apartment in Brooklyn. Believing this would simply be an opportunity to talk privately and clear the air, I agreed.
During that visit, James openly admitted that he still had romantic interest in me while simultaneously dating other women. I reiterated that I was not comfortable with that dynamic and had been clear from the beginning that I do not engage with people who are emotionally or sexually involved with multiple partners while presenting themselves as interested in something genuine.
Despite this, he continued to pursue physical intimacy and pressured me into situations I would not normally agree to. Later that night, he attempted to send me back to Manhattan alone by train at approximately 1:00 a.m. I refused and insisted on taking an Uber for safety.
The following day, communication was minimal. When I reached out to express how uncomfortable I felt about the dishonesty and manipulation, I asked him—more than once—for a simple apology and accountability. Instead, he deflected, minimized my concerns, and ignored me entirely.
What concerns me most is not just the personal interaction, but the pattern of behavior: charm followed by evasion, emotional pursuit paired with dishonesty, and a complete refusal to take responsibility when confronted. In my experience, James presents himself as sincere while operating in a way that feels deceptive and dismissive of boundaries.
I also find it deeply troubling that someone who engages customers in this manner holds a management position in a customer-facing role. Whole Foods promotes values of integrity, respect, and community. Based on my experience, this behavior does not reflect those standards.
I am sharing this publicly because I believe transparency matters—especially for female customers. I strongly caution women to maintain professional boundaries and avoid personal engagement with this individual.
I attempted multiple times to resolve this privately by asking for a conversation and an apology. Those efforts were ignored. I informed him that I would leave a review if this continued, and here we are.
This is not written out of spite. It is written out of genuine concern and disappointment. Integrity matters. Accountability matters. And customers deserve to feel respected—both in and out of the store.
Whole Foods should take this seriously.
Ladies, please be cautious.Feb 07, 2026 -
Whole Foods at Union Square is exactly what you’d expect from a flagship Manhattan location — big, busy, and packed with options. The selection is massive: fresh produce, specialty and organic items, great bakery section, and one of the better prepared food setups if you’re grabbing lunch or dinner on the go.

Just okay if you like to overspend.
It is good for a quick grab and go, an Emergency stop. Hey if you have that type of money to overpay, go for it. I will see the rest of you at CotscoJan 17, 2026 -
Out of all the whole foods, this location is my favorite.
It's big, spacious, and convenient as far a the train station goes.
I wish they would get a better sushi section.Jan 07, 2026 -
Whole Foods Market is known for its high-quality products, fresh produce, and wide selection of organic and natural foods. The store is clean, well organized, and offers many healthy options you don’t easily find elsewhere. Prices are higher than average, but the quality, variety, and overall shopping experience make it worth it for many customers.

If you're looking for a tasty, healthy, and affordable meal, this is the place for you. The food is served buffet-style: you order whatever you like and pay by the weight at the checkout. There are also tables at the exit, so you can dine in peace. There's something for every taste!

it’s a nice whole foods but the hot bar lacks variety and just lacks in honestly everything. the hot bar is almost never stocked fully and when it is sometimes it’s even cold. their dining area is big and spacious with lots of seating though

Usually, I would stop here on my way home (after work) to buy food. The 2nd floor area has a great selection of pre-made food that it’s tasty & at a great price value. Some recommendations: sushi, curried chicken, vegetables area, wraps, salmon, sautéed green beans, crispy fried chicken, etc. If you are cooking home or snacking, they have good options too. Some favorite are: the cheeses, the nuts (Valencia almonds, caramelized walnuts, etc.), the jalapeño chips, chicken bacon, fresh fruits, the nuts milks (cashew milk, hazelnut milk) & others.

During a very busy Saturday, the stellar team was able to address my questions and provide knowledgeable, dependable, and responsive customer service. A few of the standouts are: Joelle, Anthony, Bryon, and Lissette.

The lentil spinach soup was tasteless. No salt in the condiment section. I asked a woman for some. She disappeared. I next asked a young man who said I have to wait 10 minutes for the salt because he has garbage to throw out! What kind of customer service is this?

I really only go here for the baked goods so I'll just speak on that. I love the people that work at the bakery. They're all always so kind, patient and really good at their jobs. They'll write "Happy Birthday" or really anything on cakes for free and are attentive to many requests. All the goods there are so incredibly delicious, including their large selection of sourdough bread! I've become a huge fan of whole foods sourdough. If you like sourdough I recommend their San Francisco loaf! But all in all I highly recommend getting anything from over there, it's all worth it!
Lastly, whole foods is an expensive store, and that applies to the bakery too but I think a lot of their goods are worth the price. The breads, I'm telling you is a bear kept secret. You can get s whole sliced loaf for less than 6 dollars.Nov 11, 2025 -
My sister and I have been to this place and had that there were many people in this store and that both of us went into the store and bought some produce like vegetables and yogurt. The store sells organic and non-organic produces. The people in there were nice, kind, friendly and helpful.

Whole Foods Union Square is undoubtedly my favourite location in the city. Although it tends to be quite crowded most of the time, I still absolutely love it. The store offers an excellent selection of fresh produce, well-organized aisles. Despite the occasional bustle, shopping there remains an enjoyable experience every single time.

Not a comment on this particular location, but on the brand as a whole. I loved WF growing up, but recent trips to their café feel like seeing a ghost. They used to have chopsticks, metal cutlery, and a whole counter of bottled sauces available for the use of anyone purchasing hot food. Now, only salt packets. No hot sauce, no ketchup, no condiments, not even pepper packets. Hell, even their lemon chicken artichoke soup is now just chicken artichoke soup, and twice as bland for it. I don't know man, it's just...kinda sad. Think this might have been my last visit.

WORST prepared food EVER. I would give a negative star is it were possible. So much great food in the area. I’ve had prepared food from Whole Foods before (not this location) it’s always been good. Definitely not the place to get food in Union Square. Save your time and money, go elsewhere. It’s so dry and tasteless now I have to go spend more money….

Deli service is appalling. Plenty of staff walking around, but none tending to customers, despite making eye contact and noticing there is a line. The singular employee slicing meat even asked them to help and they didn’t.

This is a fantastic place right in the heart of the City ! You have groceries, lunch, cafe with ample seating – all rolled into one. Their coffee is good and actually less expensive than cafes around here. The food is great — fresh ingredients, caloric information, healthy options and I would say hard-to-beat prices ( $14 for an entree and two sides is the best special ). Their cafe offers 90-minute seating with a table for every group — each table seats four, but they are places side-by-side on the Union Sq side, so large groups can sit here too. And of course the views can’t be beat! The restrooms are a bit small, if there’s one negative.

A very large store near subway and opp union square. Three floor store and seating space to have food. Good bakery options. They have escalators in the store. Seating space is at third floor. Veg options also available in entree and sides. We enjoyed our lunch there and carrot chesse cake and berries tart was good.

This bald headed staff seen in the picture on purposely ignored me when I was trying to ask him for help to pull up my Amazon Prime member in-store barcode on the app. He literally walked away from me to another customer at checkout who never asked for help. He has been reported to both in store customer service and corporate.

Very good Whole Foods Market in front of the famous Union Square Park. Well stacked, organized, and has a good salad and hot food section. I had a feeling that some items in this particular store are little bit more expensive than that of Hudson. The security in this store is a bit hiked.

One of my favorite Whole Foods stores. They have a lot of organic varieties. Our family likes them very much. My kids only like the beef and milk here.

The food court area used to be a nice place with a great view.. now it’s full of homeless screaming and sleeping pretty much on 60% of the tables. Sad and unsanitary place. :/

This store has pretty much everything. You pay more here, but you get what you pay for. The meat section is exceptional, with a great selection and quality.

Interesting location. It had everything you expect from whole foods. Fresh bread, hot bar, and personal/ household care items. Just the three floors is inconvenient and the sticking shelves are long and strange. Feels like a discounter or something. But otherwise. It's good.

This location has more space and sufficient seating area for lunch. This store has more cheese selections and better bakery goods.

I love the great food and great service combination. From the variety of good foods, the incredible buffet and the brilliant partnership with Amazon, you guys can now give us even better 'customer services' and that's why I shop there!

What you'd expect from a Whole Foods in terms of offerings and quality. The layout of the store makes for a pleasant shopping experience despite it being constantly crowded. The checkout process is efficient and they have multiple "x items or less lines" which are helpful for when you just need to run in for a couple of things.
