Went to Pepboys to have my brakes examined and fixed. Upon dropping my car off, an employee pointed out a slew of appointments before me and said it might be a while. I said it was okay as I had a ride and didn't have anywhere urgent to be. Over 24 hours go by until my car is seen and I had to call them to get a price. I was told the estimate but the technician was going to call back with a more accurate estimate. And that my car may be ready the next day. Hours go by and I hear nothing. I call back and they inform me they were waiting on the parts to come in and that my car is being worked on. I did not agree to have any service done on my car as I was waiting for the technician to call me back to explain what else was needed. The customer service rep gave me a hard time when I told them that I had dropped my car off Saturday morning and would not have it back until Monday at the earliest, which I needed it back by then. They attempted to add services on that I never agreed to, have a tough time with time management with overbooking, and bad customer service. I will not be returning to Pepboys after this experience.

Gave you another shot at my business and you failed miserably. Online appointment was made a week prior to today (3-6-3026). I stop in on Wednesday, 3-4-2026 to make sure they can order my tire and have it by Friday, 3-6-2026. It was a female employee who helped me order the tire. I show up at my 4pm scheduled appointment only to be told they don’t have me on the list. I show the man my email and text verification from Pep Boys that says otherwise. He shows me the computer and says they are slammed with work. Nothing but attitude. Then he checks stock on my tire and says it’s not in stock. I tell him I was there earlier in the week and ordered the tire with the help of a female employee. His attitude and response suggested I was lying. No apologies or let’s see what we can do. So congratulations, you lost a customer for the second time. Such a waste.

This PepBoys location is definitely above the rest. I have been going there for more than 10 years and in the last 5 years, it seemed to become even better than before. They have a very highly knowledgeable Delaware certified technician that never disappoints. The service desk and the other mechanics are also very good.

Do not visit this place. They always seem to find something new wrong with your car just to make sure you keep coming back. My Experience: I initially went in for a simple oil change. At that time, my brakes were completely fine — no noise, no performance issues. I also requested a general inspection. After inspecting the vehicle, they suggested replacing my brake pads, even though they were still in good condition. Immediately after the oil change, my right front brake started making a strange screeching noise. This sound was never there before the service. It would screech for a while and then stop after driving a bit. Over the next couple of months, the noise gradually became worse. When I returned, they insisted that I replace both the brakes and the discs. I agreed, and they gave me a quote of $2,000. A few days later, they called and informed me that the front right caliper was broken — the exact same side that started making noise only after my oil change. At that point, I strongly suspected something wasn’t right. However, to avoid further issues, I proceeded with replacing the brakes and discs on all four wheels to ensure I wouldn’t have problems for at least the next year. Shockingly, just two days after the repair, the front left side began making the same screeching noise. This pattern is too suspicious to ignore. Do they really think customers won’t notice? It genuinely feels like issues are being created to bring customers back and generate more charges. I’m currently in a different state, so I couldn’t return to confront them directly. I’m writing this review to warn others. Please be extremely careful before taking your vehicle here. Do not blindly trust or hand over your car without questioning the recommendations. Honestly, I wish there were a negative rating option available.

I only brought my car in for an alignment and tire rotation, and I left with a stripped bolt. When I brought it back to get it fixed, it was even worse. I spent an extra $255 because I don't know what else they found, and I left with a bunch of warning lights on my dashboard that weren't there before. I don't know if I should go back and pay even more for what they've broken.

Set of new tires installed, improperly balanced. Had to return same day. Took another 2 hours and tires still weren’t properly balanced. Taking vehicle to another location to finish the job properly. Don’t recommend the Bear,De location at all!

Pep boys. Said it would be an hour. I was in the store from 1230 until 630pm. So yeah , horrible experience . I would recommend taking them off your list of tire installers..

Absolutely awful experience. Took my car in today at 10:00am. I was early for my 10:30 appointment I made online for an alignment check, tire rotation, and oil change. Spoke to Zee. Alignment would be done if the check deemed necessary, rotation and oil change will be done, total will be $107. Went about my day until 3pm when I still haven’t heard anything about the car. Called pepboys. Was told again by Zee that the car hasn’t been started and there are still 2 cars ahead of me. Ridiculous but whatever. 6pm I receive a text my car is ready for pickup. I go get the car. Was told only the oil change was performed since they didn’t deem it necessary based on the tread to do the rotation this time… No. I didn’t ask your opinion I took it in for a service. 8 hours for an oil change. Absolutely absurd. This is on management. Mechanics were very helpful and nice and completely apologetic. No manager was present at time of pickup.

Scheduled an oil change appointment at 10, got here at 9:45. Came back at 2 and they told me my car was next to go back. It is now almost 4pm and still have not gotten any word about my car. This place is awful, do not go here.

My son had snow and ice on his tires/brakes, made car shake. So I thought let’s get brakes and rotors checked. Not knowing it was weather related. Dropped off for 830am appt. They didn’t call until after 1pm. Good thing we didn’t sit and wait (as I’ve now read others reviews). She was suppose to call me back in 20min with more info. Never did. I called 4/5 times for hours. NO ONE ANSWERED. The call center lady couldn’t even get them on the phone. I showed up at 445pm to get the car with no word. The entire staff appeared to be hanging out at the counter. She said she just now has my work up done. Ultimately told me nothing is wrong with the brakes/rotors (relieved temporarily), however there’s an oil leak and this and that. Named a couple things including a suggestion to replacing something we had fixed last year somewhere else… weird. Are they adding BS to scam? Messing up cars? New estimate was like $1200+. I’m gonna take it somewhere else to verify for sure.

I had a 12:30 PM appointment and was told it would take about 2 hours. By 1:30 PM, no one had even checked the car, and I was then told they might look at it around 3:30 PM. If the service actually starts hours later, what is the point of having an appointment? Very poor time management and little respect for customers’ time.

I was a hundred miles from home visiting a friend in Christiana Hospital in Wilmington DE when my ‘04 Ford Explorer blew a head gasket on Route 1. It was 10:00 PM. The good people at Green Taxi Service in Wilmington came to the rescue and brought me to a Best Western on Pulaski Highway. A local friend told me about a local tow service and your Pep Boys shop nearby. Through the app, the technician informed me of all the things that had been been damaged. And I approved each one. The whole thing was done in a day. Honestly the whole experience gave me renewed faith in everything from late night rescues to honest, efficient service. Thanks, Manny, Mo & Jack!

Great front desk customer service, just really slow on actual execution of the vehicle service. I had an appointment for a flat repair, it took 2.5 hours after the appointment time before my vehicle was in the bay for service. Only updates were from me walking to the counter and asking. Overall the repair was done well, just took about two hours longer than expected for an appointment. Only other thing that was annoying is the service tech’s hands were black with grease when he drove my vehicle, I had to clean grease stains off the grey steering wheel and door handle when I got back home.

Very Poor Scheduling and Time Management I scheduled an oil change at Pep Boys in Bear, DE and was told it would take about 1.5 hours. After waiting the full hour and a half, I noticed my car hadn’t even been touched. When I asked the front desk, they casually told me there was another car ahead of mine. If that’s the case, then what’s the point of scheduling an appointment at all? This shows poor time management, lack of communication, and zero professionalism. If you don’t know when a service will actually start, be honest upfront instead of wasting customers’ time. Very disappointing experience. I won’t be returning.

I called Monday for an appt Tuesday. On that call my number was confirmed. I was told to hold. Held for 6 mins and had to call back. On appt day, installing a new tire took 2 hours!!!

This Pep Boys is a nightmare. I had an 8:30 AM appointment and still waited all day because they only had one tech — and he came in late. They also overpriced me, and the worst part is I had to come back the very next day because that same tech didn’t even tighten the hoses he worked on. That mistake caused my check engine light to come right back on, and he even wrote it in the report. Poor communication, pointless appointments, and sloppy work. I’m never coming back to this location.

Made a 10am appointment for free courtesy maintenance check and repair a head light. Didn't leave until 1230pm. The service is always reliable. The associates are always great. However, make sure you block out at least 2+ hours or the whole day to wait for any service.

Scheduled an appointment to get my wheels balanced for 9am. I get there and the lady says they cant get to my car for 2 hours. Why schedule me for 9am then? Anyway, i leave my car there b/c my friend was there to take me home. The lady at the front said she would call/email me regarding the status of my car. 6hours pass (making it 3pm) and no updates, so i call them myself. The lady says the mechanic drove my car a bit and is about to diagnose it further. She assured me that my cart would be done by the end of the day. 3 hours later (6pm, they close at 7pm) and i call for another update. This lady (who claims to be different than the one i spoke to earlier) said that actually nothing was done with my car and the mechanic went home. So i took off for work for absolutely nothing. If they were swamped with work and couldn't get to my car, that's fine. Could you at least tell me so i can go somewhere else???

If I was you I would not go here. My fiancé took his car here to this pep boys to get a diagnostic because his check engine light is on. They said he needed new catalytic converter, new roters ,new break pads, and new rear tires. They said that was everything that’s wrong. It came to a total of $1900 that we don’t have so we got the credit card and maxed it out. A week later, the engine light is on again. We brought it back and they said now there’s a hole in the flex pipe. I asked them isn’t that connected to catalytic converter and they said yes but we didn’t see it because it was covered up. They claim it was already rotting out before and didn’t notice it, but now has a hole and needs to be replaced. We find it highly suspicious that they didn’t notice before when it’s connected to the part they just replaced. It cost another $600. Then as he left he noticed that his tire pressure light was on and wasn’t reading and we went promptly inside and they said that was another hundred…. We said we wanted the flex pipe they took off cause we were really not feeling good about this place and then with a worried look the guy said he didn’t know where it was but we would be contacted ( we never were…) I suggest being highly cautious going to this Pep Boys location. Take pictures ahead of time and get a diagnostic somewhere else first, but don’t tell them about it, so you have proof of they purposely break something. We need the car for work. Everyone is hurting right now and no one wants places trying to drum up extra business instead of doing their job which is supposed to be having integrity and helping people fix their cars, not break them. They could’ve made it right and they would continue to get business from us.

Advisor was polite but service took over 5 hours to replace my battery under warranty. Not a reasonable about of time especially when i made an appointment at 9:30AM but didnt get my car back until after 3PM while i waited in their waiting room the entire time and lost my Sunday. In the end I’m happy it only cost me $20 to replace my battery under warranty, but does it really take 5+ hours to do this work?

The staff is always fast, friendly, and professional. They continuously have the best deals on tires, give me honest assessments about what punctures can be repaired, and never try to oversell me. They are my go-to source for tires & alignments !

They don’t seem to value customers’ time. I was told the oil change service would be completed within an hour, but it actually took 2 hours and 40 minutes. When I asked about the delay, I was informed that the technicians were on their lunch break. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you plan to drop off your vehicle instead of waiting for the service. I would like to give zero start but there is no options to choose.

I have had pretty good service here but the appointment scheduling really needs to be fixed. I had a 12pm appointment for a tire change, even got there 5 minutes early, and was told there was one car ahead of me. I sat and ended up waiting 4 hours for them to be finished with my tire and when I asked they said another car was getting all 4 tires changed. But I thought I was next..? I really don't think you need an appointment scheduling option if you're not going to honor appointment times of when people get there. I'm quite literally stranded without my car and waiting 4 hours on something that should've taken 30 to an hour is ridiculous. Everytime I come my appointment isn't honored and I ended up waiting 2-3 hours past my appointment time. I might stick to lunchbox garage after this because they're usually pretty speedy with their services.

I had a 11am appointment and I am just leaving at 3:10pm. I also waited the whole time and they did not communicate with me until about 2:45 when they tried to tell me the where waiting on a approval for a filter which they didn’t replace or mention again. In the end just to finished the oil change in 15 minutes. They So very disrespectful in regards to other peoples time and lives!!!! Will NEVER return or recommend 🤦🏻♀️ and didn’t even reset to oil light.

The two young ladies in the front were very pleasant and professional. She let me know everything that was wrong with my car, even though I was getting my brakes fixed to ensure that I was safe while driving. My brakes were done fast the wait wasn't long at all. And I am very pleased with there work. I plan to get everything that needs to get fixed at that Pep Boys.

Dropped my car off a little after 10am for the appointment I had scheduled. They first forget two parts of my service that I was supposed to be getting done, therefore I had to remind them and was told it was only going to take TWO HOURS. I left and came back almost three hours later to notice my car in the same parking spot I had left it in at 10am. Was then told it was only going to take ONE MORE HOUR, now I’m here having to again check on the status of my car passed the hour I was told was left. Please do better with giving paying customers an accurate time of service. No way I should have to wait three more hours when I was told my car would be ready in two post drop off.

I have an appointment for an oil change at 9:30. But my car was taken from the parking lot for the change process in 55 minutes. Why make an appointment and I'm sitting here waiting. And my car is parked. I can arrive at 9:30, but by 9:35 my car should be on the lift. That's what an appointment is for! after the car was done they forgot about me and I waited another 1 hour to pick it up. everyone goes to relax. and the work that took 10 minutes. was done in 2 hours.

From bad to worse! i've been coming to this place only because it is near my house, but the service has gotten worse. Had an appointment for a flat tire repair, left it there at 1 o'clock came back at 3 PM and the tire was still in the same place I left it at 1PM. They hadn't even touched it. No phone call, no service update on website, nothing. I wish there were -5 ratings for reviews, they have earned them. Update: as suspected, there was no work done on my tire. I have to pick it up and take it to another place. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. they are understaffed and the management apparently don't care. Stay away!

I haven't been to this place in awhile.... Seems like it's really clutter towards the rear of the store. I was searching for a certain item and Was not able to find it. So I approached 3 workers that were standing around just talking near the Tires section. I told them that I needed some help finding this certain item.... and They all had a puzzled look on their faces. Luckily the Manager "George" knew what I was talking about and Showed me exactly where it was. Thanks for the Help. Those other 3 employees need to be retrained on where the items in the store are Located.
