Here in Loudoun county the unenlightened charge for metal and battery recycling. They also put cooking oil and fluorescent bulbs in the landfill rather than recycling.

If you’re going to be closed the day before Thanksgiving, please post it. I went today only to see the gates closed when I arrived.

Asked to many questions about trash I was trying to get rid of and just left because of it

I had to recycle a small sectional couch. We were in and out in about 15 minutes with only a fee of $8 to pay (it is $8 per 100lb). This is calculated by weight of the vehicle upon entrance and exit. We drove up, had the car weighed, they asked what we were recycling, told where to go and what to do, drove back over the weight scale, charged for the lack of weight in the vehicle and that was it. The staff were friendly, quick and polite. The dumpsters were easily accessible with many others discarding their bulk trash/recycling. The other positive note is that there was no odor in the air to indicate this was a county landfill/dump. You couldn't smell anything. It was a pleasant experience from begining to end. They also offer free compost and manure for gardening purposes. Check the county website for for pricing and what they do and don't accept before you go. They also have a email/phone number you can contact for clarification on things that your unsure of.

This was my first time visiting the Landfill and it was a positive experience! I didn’t know what I was doing, but had called ahead and they said if you have latex paint you need to go through the Scales and not the fast trash lane. I showed up on a Thursday at 2:30pm, the 1st week in August. There were several cars ahead of me, but I would say I waited about 15 min to get to the scales. The employee at the Scales was very helpful! When you’re talking to the employee at the Scales, they are in the middle, kind of like a drive through window and they are weighing your vehicle. Once my vehicle got weighed, I drove straight to the blue sign that says, “Convenience Center”. This is where the green Giant Trash Bins are, and other disposal areas. So, to dispose of your latex or water-based paint, there is a paint disposal area on the left side of the lot (see photos). The paint disposal area has several square bins to place your paint in (place the paint cans upright). The staff was very helpful, kind and friendly on this visit. When I exited, they weighed my vehicle for the 2nd time. The fee was $8.00. If the weight of your trash is under 200 lbs, the fee is $8.00. See signs (in photo) or website for other pricing info. The Fast Trash Lane was closed but I didn’t need that lane for this visit. There is an area as you’re driving in that has free compost and free mulch on the right side of the road. There’s also a “Compost Recycling Center” that’s free to use. It’s on the right, just past the 1st stop sign, see photos.

I had a disappointing experience at Loudoun County Solid Waste Management. When I arrived to drop off some items, the employee at the initial weigh station asked whether the trash was coming from my home, then requested to see my ID to verify I lived in the area. While I complied, I noticed that others who came through after me were not asked the same questions. The inconsistency in how residents are treated raises concerns, especially when it appears to be applied selectively. I left feeling singled out and disrespected. If ID checks are required, they should be enforced uniformly. Otherwise, it leaves room for discriminatory treatment—intentional or not. I hope the county reviews its training and protocols to ensure all residents are treated equally and respectfully.

Our kids' co-op had a field trip here today. The tour guide drove the bus patiently and answered so many of our questions amidst all the kids' chaos. We learnt so much! Inside the bus, it didn't smell bad at all. We even saw a small pile of trash catching a fire (probably someone didn't recycle their lithium battery!) and the construction vehicle threw soil on it to put it out. A water truck also arrived promptly to spray water on the already extinguished fire, just in case. It was a fun field trip! We will be back when kids are a bit older and have more questions.

Of the local landfills, the Loudoun one is our favorite. Recycling is easy to get in and out and the solid waste process is easy

Tony Hayes took my daughter and I on a tour of the landfill and we both loved it! He was so friendly and shared a lot of interesting information. He shared that they feed the stray cats and even capture them to get them fixed ?

Very crowded 11:00 on a Tuesday in July. Mulch & compost are free. Their scales are wrong. We had mostly cut up wood pallets and we were over charged est 100 lbs. Also, $8 is minimum charge now.

Greatly appreciate the hard work that gets done here. The sweet and sour nature of the recycling guy in his little golf cart keeps me on my toes.

Fast trash wasn't an option my previous visit, so I used it this time. The process was different. I made a mistake driving through. Admittedly dumb on my part, I guess I missed a sign the man in the lane very loudly and rudely informed me was there when I circled back to pay. I understand customer service is frustrating, but people make mistakes dude. I was ACTIVELY driving back, making the turn, to come get clarification and pay the fee. Very clearly not trying to just leave. I was friendly until he insinuated I was stupid. Acting like I robbed their safe and was speeding off. There's no need to talk to people like that when they're trying to rectify the mistake. Idk what kinda day this dude had before me but his anger and attitude was not warranted or appropriate.

Its the only game in town, but man, are they slow moving the cars in. There's a fast trash line, but they only accept cash and bagged household trash. So if you have some yard waste, you're stuck in the super long, slow line. They should just convert the fast trash line to a non-scale line for regular sized vehicles. Would be way more efficient. And it should take credit cards. Edit: have been back multiple times. Agonizingly slow. There's no excuse.

I have been taking my used motor oil every 6 months and I aways find they are helpful and never had to wait. I have gone thru their weighing machine couple of other times to dispose household waste and I see always the line moving quickly and efficiently. I am glad we have one reliable place to take the stuffs to dispose off.

Just doing my part to recycle. They have done a good job and make recycling clean an easy. They take the normal stuff like cardboard, paper and plastic jugs. They also have separate containers for glass. That way they can have a separate stream of just uncontaminated glass. Which is better for recycling. They also take use engine oil, batteries, and antifreeze for free. I wish they had a free container for steel. Mufflers, brake disks, shocks and stuff like that. Unfortunately you need to go into the fee area for that and it will cost you $7 . I am sure alot of recyclable steel just ends up in the trash because of that. In the area of the landfill that you must pay to use they have separate areas for different stuff. Overall a great facility.

The line was long but it moved super quick. I went on a Saturday around 1pm. I had several broken furniture pieces and paid only $18. One of their employees was super friendly and offered to help toss my items. Great service, quick and easy

Staff is friendly and helpful. Waits are rarely long to get in and they keep the pavement free of nails and such so you don't have to worry about tire punctures. Would dump again.

Took my girl scout troop on a tour of the landfill - was a very educational experience with a professional and knowledgeable guide. Impressive how hard the organization works to keep as much garbage out the the landfill as possible through recycling/reclamation programs.

The place permeated a pungent, exotic stench. It was hot and filthy, but logically organized. Bees and wasps were flying around. It was Saturday and quite popular, but the line moved fairly quickly. The operators were friendly and assisted us in getting our garbage where it needed to go. :-)

I use this place about once a month, the guys at the entry both have always been cool, except for today. I entered the booth and said I had some scrape metal, wood and plastic. I had forgotten I had a tire. And the guy said well what about the tire, as if I was trying to get one over on them, he says it’s 26 dollars for tires. So I said, I’ll decline. I’ll keep the tire. So went about with my disposal process, as I’m leaving. It’s the same guy. The first question out of his mouth. You didnt dump those tires did you. I kinda got the feeling that me trying to lie and dump the tires, would have made his day. I didn’t dump the tires, they were actually very visible in the back seat, so I was very surprised he even asked, what a drama queen. he was just a really creepy guy. Really creepy.

It was an easy process, however, make sure to look out for the extra fee if you take things where they're not supposed to be dumped. Got charged $35 for putting an appliance in the wrong spot and was not notified by the guy manning the booth.

Best smelling landfill I've ever used. Transfer stations and landfills in other areas of the state never smell this nice. A must visit if you're touring landfills of Virginia during quarantine.

A great group of professionals doing a difficult job. You get your tires washed on the way out, and the line is so smooth. Easy peasy.

Just moved into our home and didn't have trash service set up yet. For $6 we were able to bring all the trash in our van and dump it. Super quick and easy, and if it were closer to home I'd consider canceling my street pickup. Brought my kids the next time we used it just to show them where their garbage goes and really fun for them to see all the scavenger birds everywhere, I think vultures.

Busy.... ALWAYS BUSY. Clean and well organized-- not the usual descriptors for a landfill. FREE mulch is a GREAT feature. Well placed signage. Fair fee for use...pay by ton...most trips are 6$ for home owners with small loads or brush disposal. The wait time to get out is the MOST FRUSTRATING part. We could visually see the booth from our place in line...5 cars ahead of us...took 17 minutes to reach it. ?

The staff is always super friendly and helpful. Good place to drop off your excess boxes for recycling. Larger items like washing machines and refrigerators can be left as well as yard clippings.

A little confusing to navigate - would definitely recommend asking staff directions if it’s your first time (I had a hard time finding the “fast cash” path my first visit). But very nice & helpful staff. I took our dogs on my 2nd visit, who were barking at the staff member, but he made friends with them by pulling out treats and said, “we love our dogs.” :) overall, not too bad to navigate after the 2nd or 3rd time! **Fast cash ($6 ready in cash) is the way to go.

The most economical way to get rid of your bulky items that the trash company charges you big dollars to take. My understanding is that they will take almost anything and charge a very affordable rate by the weight. They do charge a little extra for just a few specific items, tires being one of them. You can even get free mulch when available.
