My son and I took our 5th blacksmith class yesterday with Kevin Thompson. I highly recommend it!!! Kevin is a awesome instructor!

Great day with Kevin and Brian in the introduction to Blacksmith class. It was self paced, informative, and alot of fun making a couple of simple hooks. The setting was rustic in period of the times yet modern facilities were near by. Made use of my hooks when I got home.

Great place to learn about old school rock graffiti. Plays a mill to boot. Got some oat flour that made some awesome oatmeal cookies. Store was great and people were outstanding.

We support the mill! Love all the events and the old cabins. That’s my parents fault. That’s what did as a family growing up. We would travel to Tenn and Cherokee and visit old homesteads.

Went for a Viking festival. Festival was great, Mill site itself was also cool and very well kept.

We came here for a field trip and had a wonderful time. They do public demonstrations on the 3rd weekend of every month, have a campground, and host a lot of festivals. They have bathrooms and a store where you can buy their stone ground grits. Definitely recommend.

Very cool historical site, it would be fun to come on the third Saturday of the month to see the mill in operation.

We enjoyed the grounds at the Historic Site. We toured the various buildings on the property and learned a lot about this place. We enjoyed the Mill Jam festival going on at the Heritage Pavillion across the street also. Cool place with camping down by the creek. The gift shop had multiple milled products that were for purchase and we got the Scottish Oats that we cooked later and did not regret! The lady employee inside was full of knowledge about Hagood Mills and wasn't afraid to tell you all about it. Quite the promoter. Definitely worth checking out when in the Upstate of SC.

This review is specifically about the foraging class. I don’t normally write bad reviews when something goes poorly, but considering I drove so long just for it to be… how it was, I am. The foraging class, a fifty dollar class, had about fifteen minutes of actual foraging time and half the plants were “I think this is…” which isn’t good enough when it comes to foraging, particularly because there are deadly lookalikes. Instead of teaching us how to use a field guide or common lookalikes, we were told to Google this stuff and speak aloud. Granted she told us some good field guides to work with, but we were not taught how to navigate them nor were they used during the foraging time, and that was supposed to be our hands on time. Half the class I was listening to stuff like “eating clay cleanses parasites” and “solvents make you sick”. Solvents are anything a solute will dissolve into. WATER is a solvent. Water! I dunno man. All I know is I wish they didn’t have my information and I won’t be coming back. I truly believe there are cases where a holistic approach is great and will help, but I don’t know if I’d listen to the suggestions of someone who says to grow an invasive species. No matter how much you say “harvest before it seeds!”, if you tell people to plant an invasive species that kills local wildlife, there are gonna be people who don’t do it right. And considering we didn’t get very good instruction and were told to use google half the time, I wouldn’t trust anyone who was in that class to grow an invasive species. I truly am in awe of the time I wasted driving to this and back, and I was relieved when I finally got home and got to sleep after a good stress cry after realizing I wasted fifty dollars I could’ve used to buy two field guides and have better instruction.

I have lived in upstate SC for many years yet was not familiar with the Haygood Mill Historic Site. My wife booked a visit there for our camping club and we had a great time. The historic buildings were very interesting, especially the mill and our docent Ron, was very knowledgeable. You can tour everything by yourself but I highly recommend a docent. It was fascinating and a step back in time!

Such a unique way to reuse a vintage mill. The more permanent stores are fantastic, and the shows they have are also great. Plus, there is a putt-putt course.

Peaceful, friendly, extremely well maintained, low key historical exhibits and events. Interesting Petroglyph museum/presentation. Buy real stone ground grits that are ground right there! Good parking. Nice clean rear rooms. Very helpful volunteers. We went for a special event (banjo festival) which was smaller than we thought but will return for other events.

Such a cute place with lots of history! The lady in the gift shop is informative and they have lots of goodies! The ground cornmeal is amazing!

Always good to visit as my Grandparent are from the area. Mauldin, Pace , Porter, Entriken. Although the cabins were locked, it's still neat to see and will be back to visit.

Fascinating history, living pieces of our past. Besides the mill with working wheel, there are 3 cabins that range from late 1700's to early 1800's, a blacksmith shop, moonshine still, and barn. Plaques tell you the history. You can go inside all stories of the mill, and inside two of the cabins. You can see antique mill equipment, blacksmithing tools and anvils, spinning wheels and an old loom, old cast iron cooking utensils, etc. There are in total several miles of hiking trails, free parking and admission, and a store where you can buy souvenirs and grits ground on site. It's also dog friendly! The Native American petroglyphs are cool. You walk into a room built over the large rock where they were found and press a button, and are given an audio tour and light show that highlights the petroglyphs. There are also special events throughout the year, with a fiddle competition up next, as well as days when you can watch a blacksmith at work, and talk with fiber spinners and weavers. Sammy, one of the "mill cats" likes to follow you around! Just a really cool place to visit!

Hey ya'll. The grounds were wonderful. Even with all the rain it really didn't get too muddy. The pavilion area fantastic. The space, lights, staging area, and ability to park right up to it in order to unload makes it perfect for events. The bathroom house was a relief to see and so cozy and clean. 3 private stalls that even include showers, with a small sitting area in the main space. The best part about was the surroundings, it is absolutely stunning here! I would highly recommend this place for any event.

There has been a grist mill operating on the property since 1792. The current mill has been in operation since 1845. Fresh yellow/white grits, yellow and white cornmeal, wheat and rye oats amoung other delectables available in the gift shop. The mill grounds these products during special events held the 3rd Saturday of each month. There are many other attractions to see while here. Historic cabins and the Petroglyph Center are other highlights of the Hagood Mill Historical Site. They also have an 18 hole disc golf course. Hours of operation: 10-4pm Wednesday- Saturday.

This is one of the best historical sites I've ever been to. We will be coming back soon and we'll make sure it's on a date when this mill is open. I think they still make corn mill here. This place is still in very good condition. Hopefully they'll continue to keep it up in such good condition.

This is such a great place to explore. The gift shop is amazing, and the variety of gifts and goods, especially fresh grits and cornmeal, alone is worth the visit. I even learned how to "correctly " spin a top from the shop hostess. Much history, great experience...so much more than is mentioned here. Check it out for yourself!

I have been wanting to visit Hagood Mill for a while. Who doesn't love a good mill? On the site, they have several buildings besides the mill itself. Most of them are accessible and do have some furnishings to give you an idea of the era. The water wheel of the mill does run and inside the building you can see actual parts of the former mill's processes. Additionally, they have a building with a small museum with some history of the area, and the most interesting things of all, the petroglyphs. There is special lighting and a narrated explanation of what you're looking at. It's fascinating and well done. Of course there is a gift shop on the property and the nice folks there are very informative. Things to consider: you're outdoors between the buildings, with dirt and rocks, so wear sturdy shoes and some insect repellant. If it's a hot day, you need sunscreen and maybe some water. We got really hot, really fast. There are restrooms and handicap access.

Edited: Hey, Hagood Mill. I thought I gave you five. Here's the other star. Looking forward to coming back. I came to the Americana Folk Festival. Entry fee for this event was 5 dollars, but I think it depends on the event. This place is great! Can't believe I've been twenty minutes away and haven't visited in the five years I've lived here. I'll be a frequent flyer. There's always something going on.

A great afternoon picnic area with rich culture teachings all around from the plants to the rock art. Also there is a 9 hole disc golf across the road. We went for a field trip. It is a very cool place and they have chickens and one duck as of now.

Great stop with blacksmith, old mill that is still working. Check the gift shop for grits, soap and hot sauce. Say hello to Pamela in the shop, 3 octave range and great attitude, tell her Alex sent you. Have fun

It's nice to visit historic sights especially when they are still in operation. To get a look back to early American ingenuity at putting water to work to make life easier. They still sell fresh ground products here. When your in the area I suggest you stop in and check the mill out. From the large water wheel to the belt driven machinery it is really something to see. There is also early American cabins and Indian artifacts on display.

Visited Fr 5 Aug 2022. An excellent experience. Easy to access. Tremendously informed docents. Some locally made crafts (I bought two pairs of earrings!) Kid friendly; history appreciating adults! Sure: restrooms clean! I hope to visit again in fall when there's a gathering of Native Nations. Come. Walk (easily visited, easy and close in paths.) Learn. Pause and get a few connections of our common history.

This place is awesome. All ages can find something to enjoy about this place. The cooler weather helps out with the walking. The monthly activities allows our family to arrange their schedules so that they can attend these events as well. I'm all about family time and this is a wonderful place to do that. Bring a picnic and sit under the trees and feel the cool breeze blow. Its worth the drive if you're not a local.

What a great spot to visit! We were up in the area to see some of the state parks and kept passing the signs for Hagood Mill and decided to look it up. We love historic sites, and this was great! - an active blacksmith shop, looms and spinning wheels, pottery barn, etc. I especially enjoyed the setup in the mill itself though. Everything looks well taken care of and was a delight to look through. We did the nature trail with kids as young as toddler age. I wasn't sure what to expect with the petroglyph area, but I really thought that was well done also. There is a small museum-type room and in the back is a dark room with the petroglyphs on a large rock with a show done every so often. It is definitely worth watching. Also, I just want to note that entrance is free. I know they do lots of events, so I can't speak to that. I couldn't find any information about the regular daily price, so in case anyone else is wondering, there isn't one. Only donation boxes placed in a few spots. We brought a picnic and had lunch at the tables there. All in all it was a great stop for a long morning excursion and I would recommend it!

This place is one of the best historical sites that I have seen. It has been kept up very well and it is beautiful. This was our first time visiting here and I was told to come on a Saturday because they have several events going on. I would recommend preparing a picnic basket and have some fun!
