Sadly never got to see it up close, but nuclear power is slick, and from what i gather, powers no small chunk of New Hampshire, haveing lived there a month and a half, I like functioning lights.
Nuclear power is significantly underrated. It's one of the cheapest, cleanest and most environmentally friendly sources of energy we have at our disposal. Plants like Seabrook Station keep the lights on without the greenhouse gasses and smog produced by burning coal or natural gas. We should continue to keep this plant operational as long as it is safe to do so, lest we need to fall back on fossil fuels if this plant shuts down.
Well run nuclear plants are much better than those awful windmill farms and solar arrays, which kill thousands of birds, cover vast amounts of area, and are extremely unsightly. Electricity has to come from somewhere, and nuclear power plants are the best option.
Wouldn’t recommend it. No doughnuts in the break room. Everyone seems to be glowing green. Manager has 11 fingers. Reception area fish tank has fish with 3 eyes.
Truly fantastic place, went there on a field trip as a kid, and several times on my own. It provides most of NH's energy and is essential to combating climate change.
Clean, well maintained, safe, and efficient. The NextEra Energy nuclear power plant is proof that nuclear energy is both cost effective and safe when properly implemented and regulated.
Its unfortunate humans have such paranoia and fear of this technology. Nuclear power could and should be a bridge during the shift from oil/coal power to green renewables. So much potential. Dangerous, yes, but US government/NRC etc etc have done a great job keeping people safe.
How many people have died from commercial nuclear power? How many people have died from fossil fuels, oil refinery fires, coal mine collapses, have been poisoned, developed asthma and/or cancer? How many people have been hurt by broken regulations and companies cutting corners on safety in the fossil fuel industry? Incredible.
What has the environmental impact been from fossil fuels compared to commercial nuclear power? How many oil spills have there been? Fracking is causing earthquakes and flamable drinking water as i type. Theres been a coal fire burning underground for decades Pennsylvania, the town was abandoned....Centralville or something.....
Fukashima was hit by a historic, record breaking natural disaster, an earthquake and tsunami, the worst nature can dish out. Contamination and meltdowns, yes, but mostly contained. Mayhem, destruction, and mass deaths? Nope. How many people have died as a direct result of the radiation? Compare that to the BP oil spill caused 100% by humans, we did that to ourselves.
Hundreds of thousands, more?, of people killed spread over decades sadly does not evoke the same the emotional and logical response as a hypothetical disaster that has not happened. And if/when the unthinkable occurs it wont even scratch the surface of the damage fossil fuels caused in the past and will continue into the future as long they are in use.
List the pros and cons, put the two on a balance board, draw a ven diagram, pie chart, timeline, etc etc.

Oh yea haha...Seabrooke...... the concrete has some real problems, probably not a good idea for a long term relicensing.....whew, look at all dem letters, im done.
I enjoyed learning the reactors turbine tripped and emergency shutdown coincidentally happened on the same day the nh emergency phone alert system placed a call to all of Rockingham county. I will also be enjoying the third arm on my back.
