I called this tow company for a simple job. Nothing complicated. What I got instead was hours of waiting, constant excuses, and zero respect for my time. I was repeatedly told the truck was “on the way” or “almost there,” which was clearly not true. Each update just reset the clock and kept me stuck, unable to do anything else with my day. When JB Smith got involved, I expected the situation to improve. It didn’t. His attitude was dismissive and defensive, like the problem was my fault for expecting the service I was promised. No accountability. No apology. Just irritation that I dared to be frustrated after being strung along for so long. This wasn’t a one-off delay — it was blatant mismanagement and terrible communication. If you can’t meet your own timelines, be honest. Don’t lie to customers and hold them hostage all day with fake ETAs. By the time the tow finally happened, my entire day was already ruined. And for what? Completely average service delivered hours late with an attitude to match. If you value your time, avoid this company. JB Smith runs a business that overpromises, underdelivers, and treats customers like they don’t matter. I wouldn’t call them again under any circumstances.

Guys had my van for a month. They completely lied, said quote "they are finishing up, you can come tonight" and was telling me they was "working hard on it" I came all the way back from a job in Massachusetts to no fuel pressure. I don't think they understood I have cameras on the van connected to the internet. They litteraly only worked on it for 1 hour that month. But continously lied to me about how much time was going into it. Don't trust these guys with anything more then a oil change even then I'd just want for tj auto down the road. It turned out to be a leaking fuel injector took me 30 mins to fix.

I was visiting Marion, my “ole stomping ground,”and somehow backed into a huge, open ditch with a creek running through it. Both my trucks’ two right tires were caught by the asphalt and hanging off the ledge! I wasn’t going anywhere!! A postal worker drove by and suggested that I call Smith’s. I am glad that I did! It was an amazing experience seeing Mr. Smith and his son hooking up, and successfully getting my truck up and back on the road! And without any issues or damage to my vehicle. What a father and son duo! I was blessed.

Great experience with Smith’s. I was near the halfway point of a 10 hour trip with my 3 boys when warning lights appeared on my dash. I am so thankful I found the good reviews about Smith’s. The Smith’s men were polite and helpful on the phone and at the garage. They gave me good advice, fixed one issue, and I highly recommend their services.

These guys are life savers. I was passing by Marion on a road trip when my wheel bearing failed. They got it towed and got right to it the next day. They Also changed my other front bearing and a rotor all for a very fair price.

Absolutely terrible service I ran out of gas on interstate and instead of vdot coming the trooper called smiths auto and didn’t tell me there was gonna be a 110$ service charge which I didn’t have at the moment so I worked something out with him and gave him my last 50$ and he put not even a gallon of gas in my car. Absolutely disgusting

Was heading to Knoxville when my battery light came on. Hopped off 81 and called Smith's Auto Repair. They told me to come by and they'd run a diag for me. Come to find out my water pump wrecked. They were able to get the part in and replace to get me back on the road safely. Quick, friendly, honest work. Highly recommend for anyone in the area with auto repair needs!

Had to make an emergency stop for a hole in my tire when every other repair shop was closed for the night. Met with JB and Tink from Smith's Auto repair; they were able to get me back on the road within 20 minutes. Amazing gentlemen to talk to, very efficient and fair. Couldn't ask for better service.

I had to get my car towed for engine issues on New Year’s Day and could not have asked for a better company to help. They communicated with me to understand what was going on with my engine and did the best to fix it and get the right parts even if it required driving 45 minutes to pick up the part on a cold holiday. Go in with a good attitude and they will do their best to have you back on the road in no time. Only drawback is not having their waiting room open currently. Thanks again to this company especially Daniel!

I was traveling by myself from TN to NC for a funeral on Memorial Day weekend. I had a tire that was going flat on I81. I was able to get off the interstate without any problem. I called Smith garage and the gentleman arrived at where I was parked within minutes. He asked me to follow him to his garage where he could fix my tire. They had be back on the road within 30 minutes. I would recommend this garage 100%. Thank you!!

My gf and I were driving from PA to NC. Along the way, her car shut down to half power and eventually threw out a check engine light. The local auto zone checked it out with a code reader and sent us to Smith's, saying if it's broke, they can fix it. After about 5 minutes of code resetting, and a loose gas cap, our problems were solved! The mechanic even went on a 15min test drive with us up and down I81 to make sure it was good. When we asked how much it was he refused to take any money and told us to have a safe trip and enjoy our vacation. Although no mechanical work was performed, I would definitely feel confident taking a vehicle there for an actual issue or servicing. 10/10

This family owned business is top notch!! My son and I have traveled across the country. The alternator in our truck decided to die 😢 so, the gas station we were at gave us the phone number to the shop. They came within 15 minutes, picked us and the truck up. The truck was fixed few within a few hours and back on the road. The best experience we could have asked for in the situation 😃 Also, the kindest family. Thank you to JB and family at Smiths! Above & Beyond wonderful business who I just so happen to be so lucky to run across after a very bad blown tire & traveling more than 1000 miles total. So after they took care of the tire problem, I unfortunately locked my keys in vehicle & they rescued in that sense also! So grateful for those two brothers & hope they remember the difference they make in people's lives. May you always feel rescued & recovered =) & may you stay safe & joyful, all the best, Tea Lemonds

I had to make an emergency stop on a long drive for Christmas because of an overheating engine. These guys were the only ones available on Saturday. When I pulled up, the person who was leaving said, "they're great guys, they'll take care of you." Don't let the appearance of the place fool you. She was right! They took care of me, explained what they were seeing under the hood, diagnosed the problem and got me back on the road. They are family-run, very friendly and charged a fair price. Wish I could give more stars. Thanks Marion for the Smith family.

I am writing this review with heartfelt thanks to Smith's Auto Repair Towing & Recovery. On Labor Day weekend, returning from Asheville, NC, and heading to Pasadena, MD, we broke down in the small town of Marion, VA. We called AAA and they advised us it would be at least a 5 hour wait before someone could arrive as they were very busy because of the holiday weekend & we should try to get a rental car to return home and come back after our vehicle was repaired. That was not an option, since we were in a tire business parking lot, which was closed, and there were 4 women and my 2 year old grandson, with lots of luggage, surrounded by open fields. Needless to say, we called Smith's, who told us they were closed for the holiday, but what could they do to help!. We explained the situation and they said they would be right out. In about 20 minutes Dan arrived, looked at the vehicle and said that our water-pump broke, causing us to lose all the fluids, as well as the brakes and power steering in our Ford Excursion. Shortly, thereafter, Dan said if he could get the parts he would have us back on the road in about 5 hours. Fortunately in 20 minutes he located all the parts and Jb towed the Excursion to their shop. In the meantime, Dan was kind enough to load 4 women & 1 small child in his vehicle and take us to his garage in the town of Marion. He said we could walk about 2 blocks to a restaurant called Macado's to use the restrooms and get something if we were hungry. They were more than accommodating, as we informed them of our situation and said we would have to stay. Around 6:30 P.M. we walked back to Smith's and the Excursion was running. I paid the bill, with much thanks, as JD was trying to pacify my grandson, who was getting cranky, by turning on the flashing lights of the tow truck and getting him an Orange Crush. By 6:45 we were on our way home. Now at 9:30 P.M, my daughter's cell phone rings and it's Dan calling. He was calling to make sure we were okay and still heading home, as there was heavy rain near WV. Who could ask for better service? The kindness they showed all of us has renewed my faith in the good people of the world. The town of Marion is very lucky to have such kind and caring people as residents. Thank you Smith's Auto Repair Towing & Recovery!!!!!

My daughter's car ran hot due to a broken part. Daniel was quickly to tow her car to remove it off the interstate back to the safety of the shop, evaluate to problem, order the part and complete the repair. Everyone involved in this process was friendly, professional, and honest. The charge was extremely reasonable and better than I anticipated! I would never hesitate to use the services of Smith's Towing and Recovery in Marion, Virginia!

I had a great experience with Smith's Auto Repair Towing & Recovery. My car broke down on I-81, and I was very scared. Smith's Auto Repair sent someone over really quickly and helped me out. I really wanted to be towed to Christiansburg because I am familiar with that area. That was not a problem for them. I also felt very safe riding with them. I am so thankful for their help and I highly recommend their service.

My boyfriend and I were driving through Virginia to Tennessee and a coyote jumped out of nowhere and destroyed our car. Daniel came within minutes to tow us and bring us to the nearest hotel for the night, he was extremely helpful and gave us some tips on where to find transportation the next day. Beyond friendly and helpful!! I would definitely recommend this company if you’re in the area! Great service and available at late hours.

I was traveling through Marion and had a problem with my van. I called my towing insurance and they told me the tow cost would be $175 and my insurance only covered $100 and they asked me if I could pay the other $75. I told them I would try to call another company. I got Smith and Sons to come tow me to their shop and got to visit while the sons repaired my van. These are some of the most honest and friendly people I have ever met. The world would be a much better place if we could all be more like this family. They could have easily taken advantage of me but they didn’t. I highly recommend this family owned business!!!

The guys at Smiths rescued me when a huge rock smashed out my window in a construction zone while I was in the middle of a 16 hour drive. My insurance company was completely useless. They couldn't send a glass company for 2 days & refused to send a tow truck because I needed to leave my vehicle in VA until the glass was repaired. I had glass in my eye and they knew exactly what to do. They flushed my eye out & kept me comfortable until my husband arrived (6 hours later) with a rental car. Great family! I will be forever grateful!

10/10 Recommend!! I was driving alone from NY to TN when I pulled over to a gas station in Marion and out of nowhere my car wouldn't start. It was around 9PM at this time; I looked online for mechanics around the area and ended up calling Smiths because I saw they had 24 hr towing. They were able to tow my car back to the shop- replace my alternator- and have me back on the road by 11PM that same night. All of the guys working there were extremely kind and respectful. So if you're reading this because your car has broke down in Marion all I can say is you're in luck and there's no need to stress- Smith's will help you out and get you back on the road quickly. I had the best experience with them and no doubt you will as well.

My battery had died while I was driving my car and all the lights went off. I had to coast it to the shoulder. I was driving black. They came and towed my car to this shop. There I discover they were a family business. They were very respectable and kind to me. They made me feel at home. After a quick chat they soon diagnosed I had a failed alternator. They were able to do the repairs fairly quickly. Going as far as to move other orders behind me because I was out of town on business. I had been in Oklahoma. They got everything done within 3-4hrs total. All for about $692. Not bad for that turn-around time. I would definitely recommend them over other shops. A+++++

Smiths helped me out when my tire blew while driving through Marion. They took me in, patched the tire up free of charge and made sure it was safe before we got back on the road. Would highly recommend getting any work done here as you know they are very genuine and honest crew. Thanks again

I blew a transmission line just before the Marion VA exit. I pulled into a Ford dealership, but they were closing in 15 minutes (5pm). The lady at the counter told me to call Smith's Auto Repair. I called Smith's and Daniel told me to come down and they would do what they can. I was on a long drive from Knoxville to Pittsburgh. Daniel was very helpful to start working on my truck right away. After a few hours we were able to get the problem taken care of and get me on the road again. I really appreciate Daniels service. He got right to it and took care of my truck. Pretty reasonable price too! So awesome that they are open late and can help out people traveling through the area.

We ran out of gas on 81 north and had to pull along the guardrail which was scary with all the traffic. This was on a Sunday around 5pm. None of the other towing or recovery would answer the phone except this man. He was to our vehicle within ten min of me calling him. He was courteous and respectful. He followed us to the nearest service station to make sure we made it. We had given him 5$ extra and he said we over paid and gave it back. Very honest, reliable, affordable, courteous, and just a good person and very professional. We travel this road many many times a year and he will be our 1st call from now on.

Just left Smiths last night. What a great group of gentlemen! Couldn't have been more pleased. Our fuel pump died on our suburban on I-81. My wife, myself and 6 kids, 2 1/2 hours from home. Roger of Roger's Towing, who was also awesome, gave them a call, they made room for us and had us back on the road in 2 hours. Service was fast, very good, and the guys in the shop were great. This is easily the best experience we've ever had with a shop, without exception. If you're in the area and need your car worked on, there is nowhere else I'd recommend. I'd go out of my way to travel on 81 just in case we might have car trouble and need their help again. Thanks guys! You were awesome!
