It is crazy the amount of damage from Helene. The parkway is still closed just past this overlook. Can't wait for the spring and summer view. The winter view is a little bleek.
The pull-off is right by the road and it’s easily accessible. No long hikes or stairs to climb, just a quick drive from Asheville.
The views are wide, capturing the ridges and peaks (High Swan, High Knob, Lane Pinnacle). This overlook is perfect for sunrise or sunset photos. On a clear morning the sunrise lights up the mountains.
It’s peaceful, especially early or late in the day and a nice escape from crowds while still close by.
A tiny bit crowded but more than worth the trouble to find a parking spot and once you do it is some of the most breathtaking views you will ever see whether it's in the morning when the fog sitting or in the evening when it just looks beautiful You will not be disappointed in a trip up the parkway regardless but especially this place and you can keep on going to craggy gardens and Mount Mitchell State Park so it's a win-win situation!!!
This place gave me an experience that I've never had in my whole life we arrived to see the clouds settling in the value valley in the most beautiful sight that I think I may have ever seen I took some wonderful pictures that I'm going to share here and I highly highly recommend anybody to take chance and head up there on the parkway and check out this overlook because it is absolutely beautiful and you will not regret the trip because the trip up there in and of itself is beautiful So enjoy the pictures and I can't wait to see you at the overlook we can enjoy the view together!
We drove about 30 miles only and stopped on multiple spots. I am sure you can find better spots along the Blueridge Parkway. But even for a three star view, I recommend it. We had to turn around because the road was closed north of Asheville. If you plan to drive a good section of the Blueridge Parkway, do some research to make sure it will be open.
Just a quick stop coming back from TN. A lovely place. The thing about these overlooks is that you always meet someone that has the same joy as you with being out in such a beautiful natural setting. Even if it is 95 degrees!

Beautiful view of the Blue Ridge mountains! Did you know that the blue comes from a gas the trees give off? It mixes with the atmosphere and creates the blue we see. Tree farts! Go figure!!
Beautiful views, and a very nice sunrise location. A relatively short drive from Asheville.
If starting from Asheville, it's nice as a destination or a preliminary stop on a longer drive.

We didn't go all the way to the end, cause we haven't done physical activity in ages. It's mainly a wooded area, but there are some clearings where you can see out. The path follows the road, so you can hear the traffic. There are some steepish areas, and places that are essentially like taking 2 stairsteps at a time, but otherwise pretty easy to traverse.
I would say mildly kid and dog friendly. But the paths are narrow and the drop off is steep so don't let your babies, or fur babies, crowd people cause it'd likely cause them to fall to their death. 100% NOT ok to have your pet off leash here.
Nice overlook to get out and enjoy the view. Personally, I prefer some of the other overlooks nearby but it's hard to beat this view so close to town (Asheville).
