An amazing spot for birding! It’s just one little “corner” of the whole Meadowlands habitat but it never ceases to amaze. The bird diversity here is incredible, especially when considering being sandwiched between a city and a highway and more city. Every season brings a whole new experience here as the birds are always changing.
Not sure why the reviews are so good. The paths are straight paths on an old landfill. The crabs apparently cause cancer. The facilities aren't well maintained.
Haven’t been to this park I a while. We walked almost the entire trails. Lots of birds. Easy trails. Highly recommend this park. However, disappointed that there aren’t more porta potties. There is only one in the parking lot. Information on the internet said restrooms were open every hour on the hour for 15 minutes. That’s weird plus we didn’t see anything open every hour. Also, there’s a monument dedicated to the military near the North Arlington Scenic Lookout that is in shameful disrepair. Several flags need to be updated. The lights that shine on the flags need to be repaired and the little building next to the memorial is in terrible condition. Really? A Military Memorial? Please do the right thing! Is it a funding issue? Start a GoFundMe page.
I’m amazed this park used to be a landfill for NJ State. I’m hoping it wasn’t a superfund site. Regardless, the state converted this place into a park with fantastic views. Great trail to take a hike or a stroll with your dog(s), or bird watching to reset your mind and relax.
What a fantastic spot for a walk, exercise, and enjoying nature! There are several kid-friendly trails, including a looped boardwalk, and you’ll see plenty of birds along the way. The views, especially at sunset, are absolutely stunning! Can catch a glimpse of NYC skyline. It’s never crowded, making it a truly peaceful escape. I recommend bringing a friend, as you can’t see around the corner on some paths. The buildings are closed as of now.

A great boardwalk for an easy walk through the marsh along with several viewing blinds which are great for close photography of the many birds present. Species vary depending on the season.
We randomly found this place. Has large parking area and very, very nice walk path, around 1.5 miles, if not mistaken. Pretty cozy and green landscape. Far from highways. Recommend to visit sometimes.

Richard W DeKorte Park, named after the late Richard W DeKorte, a former State Assemblyman who helped sponsor legislation to organize and develop the Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission, is a large size - nearly four miles in total length, nature preserve that features numerous walking trails and overlooks for hiking in tranquility and observation of local marshlands wildlife. It also has a pair of nature centers and astronomical observatory, and the home of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. Parking can be limited at times for visitors, so plan your visit either on a weekday, or early on a weekend morning. It is a most pleasurable experience.

Richard Dekorte Park is a quiet wetland park with beautiful views of the Meadowlands and NYC. Most of the trails are thin paths cutting through the marshland and the water that flows into it. There are often many different kinds of birds in the area which makes these trails ideal for bird enthusiasts. Some reviews complain of the smell, but it wasn’t much of a problem for me.
Really 5 stars but the horrid stench that comes from the water makes it lose a Star.. really should be minus 2 stars lol but other than that the scenery is beautiful and the trail is long and chill. Loved the serenity and the nature wildlife etc. Definitely bring ice cold water if it’s hot // sunny out.
What a peaceful and relaxing park to explore nature! It has now been over a year since I have first visited this park. I have now visited this park in every season: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. While the Summer is extremely hot outside, the vegetation is the greatest. I like looking at the lush swamp reeds. I have walked through this entire nature preserve and it is all gorgeous. I enjoy watching the birds and the wildlife (except the insects). I also like seeing the water rush in and out due to the tides. I highly recommend coming here.
Great place for Birdwatching, trail walking/running or just a nice afternoon in nature! The scenery is beautiful with ample parking in different areas. Unfortunately people bringing their dogs are leaving the poop on the trail and had to watch where I was stepping. I wish dog owners could be more considerate of others using public spaces. Pick up after your dog!!!!

This place has multiple trails on water. When I discovered this place I was so excited . You will need at least 3 hours to complete one round of the whole place including multiple interconnected trails . When I first started walking on the trails i was almost blown away by wind ?. Yes the place is completely open and airy or windy . I saw spots in between to seat down and rest . Also nice spots for relaxing and taking a bite or taking a nap . All in all I loved this place and I already visited twice . They have trash cans there . I hope this place does get crowded . I saw people fishing here but you have to catch and release them as these are not edible as mentioned in one of the board there . The memorial place at the left hand side of the entrance is beautifully kept .
Downside - I want to spend mire time there but there is no restroom there our outside nearby and that’s the reason I had to leave so early both the time I visited. I wish they had a restroom.
Stunning park! Highly recommend coming to visit for a walk or to see the wildlife. Find so many incredible birds here- a great spot for birdwatching. Stunning views of the city from the walking paths. Great we'll maintained walkways.
What a hidden gem. This place is great. So much to look while enjoying a nice 2-3 mile walk around the complex. Depending on when you go, you will have to be ready to go through the knats that await in the middle of the boardwalk. I believe if there is a slight wind, they tend to be out in force. The birds will never have a shortage of snacks at this location. But its nature at its best, so just keep pushing through. I will go back.
This park is a hidden gem that offers a needed respite from an otherwise congested area. There are a few trails that offer views of the skyline, landfill, and wildlife. I recommend doing a loop on the Transco/Marsh Discovery trails along with the Saw Mill Creek trail. There are many interpretive signs to help you orient yourself and become more familiar with the local fauna/landscape. You can't really hear the turnpike here despite being so close to it. Not sure if its the pavement or if its just something with how the water handles the acoustics, but it's pretty cool. The park is open until dusk and they usually start closing the entrance gate right before sunset. Beautiful spot and I highly recommend.
Hopefully with more visitation they can justify upgrading the facilities. There are no bathrooms when the center is closed and some of the trails/boardwalks over the wetlands either look sketchy or are partially submerged...
one of the best places to see different species of birds in New Jersey. i would say a nice and quiet place for birding in middle of crowded NJ roads :). around 220 types of bird species can be observed here through out the year including, Seagulls, Swans, Egrets, Herons, wrens, wood ducks, Terns and etc are few among the huge list i could remember from Audubon listings. definitely a good place to go for a walk or bird watching and photographing.
A beautiful park hidden in the middle of nowhere. The place looked very questionable driving in but when I reached this place, I was very pleasantly surprised. Not what I expected in a good way.
There is a very nice marsh trail that loops around the water to look at birds. Maybe a 30 min hike. I haven't not visited the environmental center yet but do plan to.
I went to this park for the first time with my son this past Friday, and we loved it so much we’ve been back every evening since. It’s the perfect quiet place to spend 20-30 min walking and enjoying the sunset. There’s always spots in the parking lot and the layout of the paths and trails, make it easy to do a loop in about 20 min. You could easily spend and hour or more if you take your time really enjoying the peace and quiet or if you’re bird watching. I think that’s the main attraction here because I’ve mostly seen people with giant telephoto lenses here. If you live nearby this park is a must visit.
