Owner is dishonest. As some other posts suggest, he is a smooth talker and manipulative. Definitely hikes up the prices an unreasonable amount. Blatantly lied to me about an antique, luckily caught his lie pretty quick, the item was not at all what he claimed it was. Proceed with caution. Also, stalked us around the store and would not let us browse in peace. He was actively trying to sell us stuff the second we walked in instead of allowing us to walk around. Was initially friendly but quickly became overbearing.
I find it very frustrating when stores aren't open during their posted hours. Got there a little after 4, it's supposed to be open until 5 on Sundays. It says that on Google and on their window.
Store is beautifully done with many interesting pieces. However, found the owner to be rude. We have several antiques in our home that we have carefully bought over the years, from respected art collectors. My partner asked the owner question (not about price) and he said, "You realize this not a thrift shop." Rude.
When we first moved to Connecticut this was the very first Antique store we visited and we couldn't have had a better experience. The owner was very nice, smart, and knowledgeable about every piece we inquired about and we ended up getting a Cedar Chest from him. We always try to go back when we can to see what new and unique things he has at his shop.
My wife and I stopped here on a whim en route back to Brooklyn after celebrating a friend's wedding in CT. The collection of art and antiques at this store is overwhelming, and incredible! My wife spotted this painting from across the room and it immediately felt familiar to her. After closer inspection we confirmed the inspiration was Cartagena, Colombia! The city where we got married! What a find! Akil was as enthusiastic about the piece as we were and he was so very knowledgeable and helpful and he guided my wife and me through some of his favorite pieces in the store. Next time we're back in town, we'll be sure to stop by for some Turkish coffee and more treasure hunting! Thank you!!
The name says it all, this shop is really unique! They have an amazing and really wide variety of options, and browsing through the store is an experience each time. The owners are incredibly friendly, warm and welcoming! And you’ll always be greeted with nice music and hospitality. Shopping at Re-Unique is a must every time I’m in town!
2nd time making the trip out to see this place and no one is there and there voice mail is literal static there’s no sign to explain if there on vaca or something looks interesting but I wouldn’t know
Extremely smooth talking con man. Be warned! Do your research before you buy. Several $500 plus items can be found on eBay for $80 or less. Was very disappointed and DEFINITELY not happy.
The owner is pretty dishonest. I’ve asked about the same item three times in the past year (hoping he’d lower his outrageous asking price), and each time he came up with a different backstory about the item. I guess he didn’t remember me. Sleazy car salesman type - you’ve been warned!
I met Akill this weekend when my husband, son and I stopped by his shop.
What a beautifully displayed shop. Even the smell of the shop was so pleasant, not musty and stuffy like most shops.
My son purchased a metal sign and I some specialty soap. The lemongrass soap and the other green soap. I forget the name. The smell of the soaps was so soothing. I exchanged my connection to the lemongrass one with Akill.
Akill is such a knowledgeable, interesting, and kind man. I did not meet his wife but I read that she designed the layout of the shop. I’m sure she is just as interesting as he is.
The short time we spent chatting he made us laugh, smile and travel the world looking at his collection. He took his time to explain some of his cherished findings and we loved listening to the background and history.
I wish I could have bought more. Maybe another time.
I am so glad we stopped in and believe I should share good experiences. We hear so much bad in the world. I like to highlight the good.
So if you find yourself in the area stop by and walk through his shop and look at all the beautiful pieces he has collected.
This shop definitely had interesting items. I kind of felt like I was in a museum. However, everything in the shop is in the hundreds of dollars range. Nothing is within the standard range thar I've experienced when antiquing all over the country and coasts. I did enjoy the French music that was playing, but all in all I'd skip this stop our next time through as it just wasn't for us.
I did not buy anything here, but the antiques here are definitely unique… some were a little creepy lol The owner was kinda pushy and tried to get me to buy his all-natural soaps so that made me hesitant about exploring the store further. Anyway, seems like a great place for unusual antique finds if you are into that.
The hidden gem of Old Saybrook; perfect place for antique lovers. Everything is so unique, collected from all over the world by the owner. This is my favorite antique shop!

I've bought a bunch of stuff from this place over the years. the gentleman there has always been very polite. He's always very friendly. He seems extremely knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend the place to others.
I was browsing the pictures the shop posted on facebook. I saw a small hutch with upper glass doors. It is exactly what I want to store my colorful fabrics in.
