What might seem like a tidal wave of debris of electronic equipment washes up on the beach of Green Star and is taken apart, reconstructed, restored, reused, recycled and made available at affordable prices to those in search of a computer.
In a state where garbage disposal and recycling is challenging, given the geography of Alaska, Green Star is exemplary: who
knew that some old batteries can be scavenged for gold and lithium. Or that children can be taught to make their own computer.
Last Saturday we visited with a malfunctioning computer and some questions. Ben Hedges of Green Star solved our problem, answered our questions and while we were waiting, showed us around. We met a hive of young people fired with enthusiasm for what they do and while clearly expert, more than willing to explain.
Ben also proved to be an exceptional ambassador for the nonprofit, outlining the connections with community, the support of the borough for this work and the political interest of the mayor in improving and increasing accessibility to recycling for the people of Fairbanks. All with a smile.
Green Star is the kind of organisation that animates the concept of community service and makes Fairbanks special.

100% the best shop I've found in a decade! Nice, knowledgeable crew who got my files off my year-old laptop that lost its screen, THE SAME DAY I WALKED IN! They have a large inventory of newer and older laptops and desktops and components, and do their best to help keep electronics running and out of the dump for reasonable rates. Highly recommended- we'll be back!

My son built his computer with this company, the RebuildIT program, and when it unexpectedly stopped working, they were absolutely amazing! They were so kind, understanding, and quick to help us get everything fixed. It’s rare to find a business that truly cares about their customers the way they do. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of! Highly recommend them for anyone needing computer help, they are super knowledgeable and genuinely nice people!
Greenstar and its employees are incredible!! I have assisted a number of people in applying for the ReUse It program and the computers provided to them have changed their lives, allowing them to work, study, apply for jobs, etc. at home. Whenever issues have come up with these computers, Greenstar staff have been gracious enough to take the time to diagnose and remedy them. I cannot recommend them more highly :)
I got a great affordable used laptop here, and they list really great services for desktop computers like a deep cleaning for good prices! Will be back.
Great place to take your old electronics. Everything gets a second life. They hold great computer building classes and sell refurbished computers for cheap. They sell wonderful refurbished computers at affordable prices!
