There's really no village as PECO has it gated off. The Schuylkill River Trailhead here is great with an actual built structure for the bathrooms and a pavilion with tables. Nice flat stretch of paved trail here too. Occasional tours of the village are offered but I do not know how to sign up.
Often crowded on weekends but most tail users are courteous.
I've noticed an increase in tours of the village in recent months but didn't know how one takes advantage of that
We went to tour this village today. We didn’t make it to the 10:00 tour,due to traffic. We arrived and no one was around. No open doors or office. We decided to wait for the 11:15 tour. No one showed up. We emailed them and they said yes show up, so we did. Very disappointed! We came all the way from MA to see cool places and this was one of our stops. Don’t bother stopping here. It can’t be that important to the people who do the tours or the historical society.
Nice historical stop. People are informative and nice. Place is very clean. There is plenty of parking and nice flush type restrooms. Tours are guided and are held from spring to fall. SRT goes right beside property.
Fricks Locks Village - please check the East Coventry Township website for tour dates. There are around 10 tours a year during the summer. A family farm that grew as the Schuylkill river canal (Girard canal on 1847 map) came through in the early 1800's. The canal operated for 9 months a year carrying mostly coal. When the railroad opened, Fricks lock became a railroad station with a post office. Fricks lock is a trailhead for the Schuylkill River Trail. The parking lot is gated and is open from dawn to dusk. The village is only open during the tours. Tour dates are from June through October. The tours are free.
My wife and I finally got a chance to bike the new section of the Schuylkill River trail between Parker Ford and Pottstown. And we were pleasantly surprised to come across the new Frick's Lock trailhead in between - with restrooms, covered picnic tables, and plenty of parking. A really nice addition to the trail.
Like everyone else says, it's a nice break on the trail. But what you see in the main photo is all of the village you can access. An Exelon Energy gate seals off the rest. Disappointing for urban spelunkers.
Nice Historic stop on the newly completed Schuylkill River Trail with plenty of car parking, picnic tables, rest rooms and of course the view of the towers!
