I came here as a child and am so happy to be able to share this special place with my own children. The playground is spread out and covered in a lovely canopy of trees which is the perfect place to be outside during the hot summers.

Wonderful local treasure for leisurely nature hikes. Try the north side for hikes next to camping area. Parking and jiffy johns, and potable wate hose at entrance.

Amazing plan. The Halloween version was lovely. My 4 year old girl couldn't have enjoyed it more!!! We also enjoyed a very nice picnic after the train.

This is one of our fave parks in the area. Lots of different play areas spread out for different age groups. It's particularly great in the summer because there is ample shade in most of the play areas. Kids also love the train that runs by - check online for available times to ride. They do i-spy for Halloween and other special holidays too!

Beautiful wooded park with a cute miniature train. They have an Adventure Land park just for little kids with rest rooms nearby.

This is an excellent choice to go with children and pets. The dog park is big and pleasant. The ride on the miniature train is fantastic, surrounded by a beautiful forest. The playground is huge, with a variety of games adapted for different ages. It also has a clean and spacious picnic area.

Visited for a musical event. Ample parking space. Nice place to bring kids on a sunny day. We also tried the train. Tickets can be booked online or onsite ($5). It runs every 30 minutes during specific months.

I love this place. Everything in one place! There are great playgrounds for kids, nice trails, beautiful landscape. There are good mountain bicycle trails too. It's beautiful even if it's winter. Glorious!

It's simply a great park. A large number of rentable pavilions are present, with walking/hiking trails throughout. There's a dog park space separated from the open areas, a miniature train that weaves through the inside of the park, and huge kids play area. And it's only a few minutes from a big mall, but you only see and feel the great outdoors. There's also nearby facilities for sports.

Had a great morning here! Kids played in the playground and then we rode the train. Plenty of shade which is nice just make sure to wear bug spray! Did not go into the restrooms but they are available if needed. Love the huge dog park that is also shaded to keep dogs cool. I recommend getting train tickets early as it gets busy on the weekends! The train tickets as of this post are $3.50 per person. 2 and under free!

Really enjoy hiking the trails here, and sometimes camping over at Robert McDannell campground. Overall a great park to visit!!

Nice park for kids of all ages! The highlight is the small train ($3.50/person). Make sure to check the schedule, as the train only runs certain times of the year. Also, the playground gets busy on weekends, so plan accordingly.

We LOVE Cabin John. The playground has been an oasis of fun for our family for many years. It is a treasured spot for kids to play all year round. Where infants or old kids, it is a place to swing, slide, explore, and imagine. Also lots if fun to ride the train when operating and plan a picnic too! Of course the Starbucks at the nearby mall is a parent favorite on the way, especially Saturday mornings.

Nice park with a lot of picnic shelters. Ideal for gatherings. A nice train ride when you visit with kids. Kids love the train ride.

The little dog dog park here is awesome. It is not always as populated as the large dog side, but the few dogs that do come to the small dog side are usually friendly. They also have easy parking and the place is quite clean, relatively speaking, for a dog park. Worth a visit if you want your pup to have a change of scenery!

Big playground area with plenty to keep toodlers and kids occupied. It has a good size parking lot. The playground is nicely shaded by tall trees. There are public restrooms, picnic tables, some benches. 4 stars because the playground equipment is very worn out.

My husband surprised us on family day today with a trip to this park. What a pleasant surprise! Our grade school and preschool children both had so much fun. It had many different playground structures so kids weren't on top of each other. As we were studying the map we found out that there are walking trails, tennis, camping and so much more! We will definitely visit again as the weather warms up. The only negative things I can say are about the bathrooms and water fountains. The fountains weren't on but they may not turn them on until warmer weather appears steadily. The bathrooms were very dirty as well. At least they had toilet paper but they need a good disinfecting. Overall we liked this place!

This is one of my most favorite parts in the region. It is one of the few parts where all playground equipment is shaded by trees all day long. The playground equipment has a wide range of ages, capable of entertaining the newly walking infant through older kids still not ready to give up tag. There are also plenty of places to sit and either enjoy a book, people watching, or a picnic. The unique attraction is the small gauge scenic train, available to ride for all ages in every half hour, when it is running. This feature is only shared with one other local park in Wheaton.

This is a great "local" Regional Park that is easy to get to and has great activities like the miniature train, dog park, large playgrounds with equipment for all ages, picnic areas and various nature trails.

This is a fabulous park and it worked wonderfully for our Girl Scout bridging ceremony. The bridge to the dog park was perfect and the picnic tables around the area were perfect for our party.
