I took my jeep over on a Friday to find out why it no running. They call me with a diagnosis of the fuel pump is gone and quoted me at $865 and said it would be done by tuesday. Tuesday came and I hadn't heard from them. I called and they told me the next day. Wednesday came and I didnt hear from them. I ended uo getting my jeep back 3 days later. Upon picking up my vehicle and riding through the work they did. I found out that they didnt even touch the fuel pump and that they misdiagnosed the problem. They never told me what the issue really was but instead did work that I did not authorize. They changed the up stream and down stream o2 sensors, a temperature control module and battery terminals and then charged me $1000 for parts and labor and charged me $143 and hour for 5 hours of work that I did not authorize them to do. If they would have called and gave me the right diagnoses I wouldn't have had them do the work because it was things I would have fixed myself. But instead they took it upon themselves to do the work without talking to me and charged me over the quote I was given
I have had good experiences with Frost in the past. They were reccomended to me by family who were faithful customers for at least a decade. I had a lot of trust in them and have been recommending them to absolutely everyone for years. I quite literally praised them for how trustworthy I found them to be every time I spoke with the shop.
However, I was really disappointed with my most recent visit. I went in for a coolant system leak. They fixed the leak but they never provided any estimate verbally or otherwise, I remember them always being fair so I didnt question it. I signed the bill without even reading it over because I had the utmost faith in the integrity of this company. However, upon review, I was charged at the highest end, far above average for the job. I'm willing to pay good money for good work but according to their bill it seems like they might not have even done the added services that justify the high bill, to add insult to injury they also charged me for replacing my air filter, something they never asked about and never got approved. The worst part is I had just had it replaced 14 days prior at prompto. There was no way that my air filter required replacement after 14 days and for them to do it without permission and charge me for it is unacceptable. They also tried upselling me a battery over the phone saying that it was needed, I have a battery tester and my battery hasn't had any issues. When I asked questions they dropped the subject of a new battery completely.
The owner is super nice. He even gave me a ride once. His family has owned the business for like 100 years and he has always been great to me. But as he looks towards retirement, it seems like this once trustworthy shop has turned unscrupulous, using predatory upselling practices to make an extra buck on top of premium prices. I also had a thermostat issue immediately after picking it up from the shop and when I called they said the earliest they could check it out was a week out. I ended up just going to another shop. Turns out my coolant system is still having issues. So while I paid top dollar, I'm not even sure they fully fixed the leak.
Frost's Garage is the best. Used them several times. We brought our old Subaru in for an AC issue. They said it might require removing the entire dash and estimated $600+. With a little investigating the mechanic found a workaround and fixed the issue. Total bill was $200. Honest and knowledgeable!
Went in for an inspection, asked for an estimate for the repairs. 1 month and 3 follow up calls later and there’s been no word from them. Gave up and got another shop to address the issues.
These folks really take care of their customers and vehicles. They are very kind, thoughtful, and considerate. We are so very grateful to have Frost's in our neighborhood.
I went to Frost's Garage today for the state inspection and an oil change for my Jeep Cherokee, having made an appointment last week. The service was excellent, they started on my Jeep right away even though I was a few minutes early, and the mechanic who did the work talked with me and told me all the details of the service after the job was finished, and they did it in 45 minutes, less than the hour they quoted. I was pleasantly surprised at the low cost, and they gave me a discount because I paid by check. Everyone was very courteous and friendly. I was very impressed. Great job in all respects!
Based on my experience, I can't imagine Frost's Garage ever receiving less than 5 star reviews. Every bit of the service was outstanding. Jeff was knowledgeable, fair priced, kind and went out of his way to help me. He moved my new truck to Bangor to have my plow attachment installed so I didn't have to drive an hour to do it myself. I could not provide a higher endorsement. Great people, great company and great service. Thank you!
I recently bought a new to me car, a 2008 Impala with 70K miles and in immaculate condition with the exception of a spot on the passenger side rear door that had chipped paint and rust settling in underneath. I spoke with Mr. Frost and explained to him what I wanted done and the garage blew the job OUT OF THE PARK!!! OUTSTANDING JOB!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Will be back to do more business here. I can't say enough good things about Frost's Garage. I've goling to them for over 2years and I have never found a reason to complain. Had my truck there today for some work and once again they gave me great service at a very reasonable price. They are my go to's!
Called the shop and JR answered. I told him I had two things that I wanted to ask. Their garage is listed on repairpal as a registered garage. He got all grumpy saying no and hung up on me. Guess he doesn't want to put an oil filter housing in my truck because that was my second question that I was going to ask. I'll stick with Leo's for all of my mechanical needs...
My father’s Cadillac broke down on our way to Mass for new years on 95 south exit 180 Hampden, ME. with a dead battery and bad alternator. JR allowed me to have the vehicle towed to the shop, and stored it until the soonest available opening, which was only a few days later. Even with a couple men down due to Covid they still resolved my issue in a timely manner.
The guys at this garage are running an honest, do-the-work, business. JR at the front desk is easy to work with, and friendly to anyone, even if you’re new to town and are driving around with Florida plates. They do good work and should be recognized in the community as a premier, family-owned garage.
I was very happy with the service from Frosts. This was my first time going and I called to see if they would accept a unique job on my Volkswagen pickup truck. They did it flawlessly and it was done quickly also. Pleasantly surprised by their hourly rate also. About 50 dollars lower than expected given the extremely good service.
First time customer with Frost's garage and they were great! Inspection showed I needed new tires which I anticipated just from looking at my tires when making the appointment. They were able to get the tires I needed and get me back on the road quickly. JR and Becky were great and incredibly helpful. After having multiple bad experiences at the dealership between my husband and I, I'm glad we found a great local business to take care of us. Thanks!
Went to Frosts to get my car inspected (2016 Ford Escape) they told me all 4 of my tires were worn to the wire (they aren’t. Might have 30,000 miles on them if that and I’d add pictures of them to this review if I could) and they said my rear brakes were shot and I needed new routers. Also not true, I had just had the brakes replaced. They wanted to charge $540 for all new tires as well as $345 for new brakes/routers. Went to another auto shop and it passed with no problems. Save your 12.50 and go somewhere else.
JR and the team were spectacularly economic, efficient, kind, and prompt when they repaired my wife’s Range Rover. I strongly recommend trying frost’s garage.
They are fair and respectable place, honest people right here!!!! If you want a job done right these are you guys and they stand behind their work highly highly highly recommend.
I hate to say anything bad about a small business but unfortunately have had a very bad experience with this garage. Bought an oil truck from them and was told leaks would be fixed prior to picking it up. Looked clean when it was picked up until got almost home and very few if any of the leaks were fixed. Thought maybe honest mistake so we brought it back and had it "fixed". Now it has had issue after issue with it and in good faith brought it back to be repaired. After spending 26k on the truck and another 10-15k in repairs we have to take it elsewhere because it's still not running right. Feel like my husband's trusting nature had him taken advantage of because he always pays up front. He was told each time we have gone to pick it up "it's running great" and it has not once ever seemed to run great. This truck has only been driven less than 300 miles since buying it and it's a business vehicle so we have lost money on a vehicle that is supposedto make money. Supposedly just had fuel lines replaced and got it back with bad gaskets and leaking everywhere. Drove it directly from Frosts to Freightliner because right out of the driveway after the truck was there for 2.5 months and it was still not running right.
These guys are fast and efficient. We had a car inspection here and it was done quickly and professionally. As we're new to Maine, the technician kindly asked where I'd like the tags to be placed on the windshield. Only thing lacking about this place is the waiting room. It's old and shared with the technicians, but it's one of the few left with a large 2nd floor view of the workshop.

I took my 2004 Sierra in to have front end work done knowing I had a bad wheel bearing and front axel seal that were bad, possibly more. They called and told me what I knew plus the upper and lower ball joints on both sides. To fix the wheel bearing, axel seal, and all 4 ball joints was going to be almost $1700$ I paid them 60$ for the estimate not having 1700 to put into my vehicle. I looked the estimate sheet and for the prices they had on just for the parts seemed high. I bought all the parts needed for $278$ .. on every single part the price was much higher than local parts store . They left a bad impression and I will never call again .
They couldn't find the problem with my car after having it for a few days. I wasn't given any details about what they had looked at when I went to pick the car up. A few weeks later, my husband, who isn't a mechanic, replaced my brakes and solved the vibration problem. I feel my money was wasted.
Frosts has serviced my vehicle on short notice before. Honest repairs, good rates, good quality work. If I still lived in the area they'd be my go to garage.
