They took my car 45 minutes across Chicago to the south side then took over a half hour to get me in to get it. Thankfully my Uber driver was willing to let me wait otherwise I would've been stranded at nearly Midnight.
That's not even to mention that the spot they towed it from had a no parking sign facing the opposite direction of where I drove in, so I couldn't even see it until I came back to my car gone
A real plus is that a real person who is very knowledgeable and helpful answered the phone. She knew exactly which trucks and personnel were available and gave me an almost exact time (20 minutes) when they get to me. A professional and efficient service person arrived right on time and had me on my way in 10 minutes. He also gave me excellent advice on how to avoid the problem in the future, which was later confirmed by the service department at my car dealership. Thank you, XL!
My car was towed yesterday it was a very frustrating mix-up. None the less my issue with this place isn’t that they towed my car that’s something that was screwed up by my condo association. The issue was the woman who I dealt with over the phone twice, I think her name was Sheryl. She was rude and talked to me like I was an idiot. I was trying to figure out which gate to go into and she said over the phone “well what did I tell you before?” Worst customer service, I’ll be warning people not to go through them because of her.
Already a messed up situation with. My car being towed due to Hertz’ billing error, I get a call from tow driver that he was at my vehicle and I missed the call. When I called Mike back he said he was already gone but mentioned some items in the car you can’t see unless you were inside. I immediately went to his drop off location he was supposed to be on his way to.
He showed up 5 hours later dropped my car and find the cash taken from my wallet and he left a five dollar bill either from the change he got from spending my money or in exchange for the money he took from me. I watched the car and he was only one that went in it before myself and the police.
Our car was towed about two weeks ago on the day we moved into our new apartment. We were parked in the correct spot, with the vehicle listed on the lease, but hadn’t put the parking sticker on the windshield yet. We had paused to eat lunch and were towed within the hour. Apparently, the towing company doesn't check license plates—they just tow any car without a visible sticker. While I think that’s a poor policy, it’s not the reason for my one-star review.
The real issue was the experience of retrieving my car. The woman at the desk (I believe her name is Sheila, based on other reviews) was extremely rude and hostile. She mocked me for not reading my lease carefully and for not putting the sticker up in time. When I calmly asked whether they check license plates before towing, she raised her voice and became aggressive. I asked if I could just pay and leave.
When she told me the total was $240, I responded with “Awesome." She became even more upset, accusing me of being sarcastic and began yelling again. I handed over my card to pay, and she started yelling once more—this time accusing me of planning to dispute the charge, something I had never said or even considered. I told her I had no intention of doing that, but she kept shouting. I asked her to stop, but she didn’t, so I left the room while another employee completed the transaction.
This was, without a doubt, the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had.
Got a flat tire super late last night and didn’t have a spare tire. Shout out to the dispatcher Lou and the driver Jeff. Driver arrived within 15 minutes and was so helpful. Drove me and my car all the way back to my house at 1am which was incredibly kind. 5 stars!!!
My 2024 Honda Odyssey was towed on June 3, 2025. When I went to pick it up and paid the fees, I immediately noticed visible damage to both the front and rear of the vehicle, including a bent rear metal cover—damage that was not there before the tow.
I brought this up with the staff on-site, and the woman I spoke to said they would check the cameras and follow up if it was their fault. Waiting to hear back from them, despite my efforts to follow up. On top of that, the employee I dealt with became hostile and displayed discriminatory behavior when I mentioned the damage—treating me disrespectfully based on my Asian (Indian) background.
I also contacted the Chicago Police, who advised me to file a complaint with the Illinois Commerce Commission Police, which I have done.
Unprofessional, irresponsible, and unacceptable behavior. I would strongly caution anyone from doing business with this company.
Juan made sure he called to update his eta which is nice because we weren't given the drivers number until arrival. He offered options regarding my situation since it was a difficult one. Payment process was swift and he had a cool personality.
We contacted XL Towing to tow our car. Juan, was prompt, professional and courteous. He arrived an hour after we called in. Our car was towed to the destination and photos were sent of the location and time. Highly recommend Juan and have saved contact information to refer to friends.
Predatory towing comping. They work with companies like SpotHero and tow your car for being a little bit over your reservation (in my case they towed my car 15 minutes after my reservation ended). They also towed my car at 10pm on a Thursday night and did not report it as towed until 11:30am the next day. Absolutely ridiculous I thought my car had been stolen and filed a police report. One of the people at the place was also very rude to me for asking questions about the tow.
Car broke down on the way to work the dispatcher-(didn’t catch his name unfortunately)-was very helpful and understanding. Juan our driver was amazing! Very courteous, quick to respond, welcoming and friendly. He handled my little jeep with care and patience. 10/10 !
Rarely leave reviews, but I have to say this company really is always on point. I stay in a complex where, unfortunately, people wrongfully park in reserved resident parking spots. I’m able to get in touch with this company and they get there literally within 10 minutes sometimes even 5 minutes. Fast response, fast service, good attitudes. Great to have them. It’s really hard to find quality and professional companies like this.
Late night blown tire in freezing temps -- dispatcher and driver were both excellent! Fast, friendly, knowledgeable and a good price. A total lifesaver! Thank you!
My equinox broke down earlier in the year and was referred to XL from JTM auto, I was at rte 30 and Torrance. The operator dragged my car in park without putting it in neutral even tho it still ran and drove after that my transmission started shuttering really bad then started slipping within 1000-1500 miles. Ive had the car parked since. Complete rookie move to drag my car while it’s in park. A simple tow costed me a transmission
BEST in the city! I called 7+ towing companies and was extremely distraught as I wasn't expecting to spend on a tow service but they made it so simple and less stressful for me. So easy and polite / friendly. Spoke with Sheila and she's the sweetest thing. Luis, our driver was very professional and attention to detail.
My car broke down suddenly in the middle of Lincoln Park, and I called XL Towing. They were reassuring and helpful, getting a tow truck out to me within 20 minutes. My driver Luis was wonderful. Would highly recommend!
Although the circumstances were unfortunate, this company made it a lot better. Juan was an excellent help and arrived on the scene within 20 minutes of us calling them. I would recommend them to anyone who is in an unfortunate situation. Thank you again XL Towing!
Dispatcher was very professional and courteous. I've been towing cars for over 10 years and I wish I could have had dispatchers this courteous. Also, tow truck driver Juan was very courteous, patient, and very careful with my vehicle. Was thinking about getting out of the tow game but after having Juan tow my car I plan on getting back into the tow game so that hopefully I can one day be as good as Juan towing. He is a true inspiration in the tow game. Excellent service all the way around the board.
Let me start off with saying that this was the best tow experience I have ever had. I was pretty anxious and honestly scared because I haven’t really had to tow my car before, but Eddie made me feel safe, comfortable, and honestly he was so personable and easy to talk to. The ride was like an hour long and it flew by. Thank you so so so much. You guys really saved me lol. I appreciate Eddie so much. Thanks again guys.
My motorcycle broke down in Chicago and AAA was taking forever called XL came within 30 minutes as promised. Driver called when on the wayLet me ride back with him. very nice and professional!!
I just would like to start off by saying this is so far the best sufficient tow company I’ve used. They were very professional and most of all service was fast, and the driver Luis was the best. His customer service and communication skills was outstanding. He engages with his customers in such a humble manner and guess what he put that car on the truck so fast, in he beat me home with it. I really appreciate what they do and yes will definitely use them again and I do I mean Really do highly recommend them for service you won’t be disappointed.
Had to have my vehicle towed from Navy Pier today. The tow truck driver was very friendly and did an amazing job. I'm from a state away and this entire event was terrible but he made the situation much easier to deal with. The lady on the phone was amazing also. If I am ever in Chicago again and my car breaks down I will call again. ;)
I will be forever grateful for the fast, efficient, and kind service provided by Luis and Louie. My car lost power on N. DuSable Lake Shore Drive shortly before 11:00 pm. This company is the example of wonderful customer service. One of the most professional companies I’ve experienced in ages. The dispatch was just a breath of fresh air. When my Dodge Ram 2500 V10 broke down in the middle of Archer near the Halsted CTA station, I was immediately in a panic. 15 minutes later, I was watching "Screwy" Louie easily and quickly pulling my beast of a truck onto his flatbed. More impressive than their fast response time, very professional work and diligence, was the friendliness from both the dispatcher I spoke to on the phone and especially my driver Louie!
Over the years, any time I've had to call a tow service in an emergency, it's always been unpleasant (or worse).
Now, I have such peace of mind knowing that the next time I have the need, I know I'll be calling XL again. If I end up with Louie again, I'd even say I'd look forward to it. (Never something I thought I'd think about any situation resulting in needing a towing service - that's how great of a driver he is!)
XL towing not only meet my expectations but they exceeded them. My roadside assistance carrier contacted 3 other tow companies all of them gave a 60 minute ETA then canceled at the last minute. XL took the service request and arrived within 30 minutes. The tow truck driver, Andrew "Drew" was professional, courtesy and he gave me a great restaurant recommendation...LOL. Kudos to XL and their fantastic staff.
