We were told at the dealer that my daughter’s car needed some immediate work. It was quit pricey so we took it to Jim and he did the same work for hundreds less. They were very friendly and helpful and we will be using Jim for our future automotive repair needs.
These guys are true mechanics and on top of that honest AND reasonable. I had a bent tie rod on a Saturday and my go-to shops were all closed. After a corporate tire shop on the corner told me they normally do tie rods but their computer says my car would require 2.7 hours of labor and they don’t have the tools anyways, I found Ulmerton & Starkey with a Google search of who is open on Saturday. Jim and his tech had me totally fixed up in 30 minutes and at a very fair rate too—on a Saturday. I almost don’t want to leave this review because I want this shop to be a little secret for family and close friends.

Extremely nice and HONEST guys! I had the parts I thought I needed to get my car fixed. Turns out, I didn’t need the parts at all and it was a rather simple fix of unsticking a bracket. They did recommend new brake pads soon, but they didn’t pressure or try to upsell me. They didn’t install the new parts (which would have cost way more) because it wasn’t necessary. They were honest and as a woman, that is so important! HIGHLY recommend Ulmerton and Starkey Automotive!
I called everywhere in the area for help with my car in hopes someone could give me a better quote than my original mechanic (who understandably had certain set prices and rules). Jim and his other mechanic immediately went to work on a quote that would save me money because my car was nearly un-drivable due to a bad clutch. He gave me a price that was nearly $500-$700 less than my original mechanic. What I specifically like about this place is that they will allow you to supply your own parts (obviously at your own risk) but he will tell you if a part is not good. But he was more than willing to get the parts for me and called around for the best price.
Other larger companies will charge more for labor if you supply your own parts. Long story short, my car is working wonderfully and I was able to get great quality service! Thank you so much !
Went here this morning with a power steering leak. He said it was my rack and pinion which I had replaced in June at another shop. Jim told me to bring it back to the place that replaced it. I’m getting a new one with no charge.
I’m very happy to have found Ulmerton and Starkey shop. I will continue to use them for all my older cars needs!!!

Good people, and my service was fast, affordable, and pleasant. Jim is a really good person and saved me so much money and time had I gone elsewhere. It’s really hard to find a good decent mechanic these days, but look no further if that’s what you want.
Jim at Starkey Automotive is the real deal, neighborhood car repair. I took my car in, recently and had fast, helpful service. This is the only place my Family will go for repairs, which is how I made the decision to take my car there too.

Jim is the best mechanic I have ever met! He is reliable and will give you a fair price. As a women it can be scary going to a mechanic but, Jim will take care of you. If you need any work done on any type of car this is the place to go. I cannot recommend this shop enough!
I have been going to Jim For 20 years now. I am well educated in the workings of cars and trucks, but I choose to let Jim and the guys do my work. Jim is s honest as can be He would never lie to anyone, nor would he rip anyone off. The shop is nothing fancy, but that is how he keeps the costs down. I put my family in cars that Jim fixes and I love my family.
Update. Jim just did my breaks and did great job as always. Reasonable prices great service. Don’t let the shop fool you. They do great work.
I'm going to start this by saying that my trusted mechanic for YEARS recently moved out of state, so I was already worrying about future car repairs when my engine decided to overheat & my car shut off. My father in law has been coming to Ulmerton & Starkey Automotive for a long time, so he referred us, but I was still nervous just because of previous bad experiences with other mechanics. Once I actually met Jim & Scott, I was completely put at ease. Not only did they fix my car for a really good price, but they also got it done in a timely manner & had no issues addressing any of my concerns. Jim even called after I had left to confirm the car wasn't having anymore issues with the temperature. I will most definitely be bringing my car back for any maintenance it needs, & I highly recommend anyone else looking for a mechanic to do the same.

Had moved here a few years ago and was hesitant finding an honest car repair shop. I couldn’t recommend Jim enough. He’s honest, prices are more than fair and has a great mechanic Abraham who works along side him. Had something happen over the weekend and had to leave town on Monday and he was even able to fit my car in and get it done on a Saturday. I would only use this shop and I recommend highly to anyone living in the area.
Amazing owner and mechanic!! Jim, the owner took us same day to change out a alternator. We have to leave town and he did the work in one day on a Saturday!!! His labor cost is great and below chain companies. His mechanic Abraham was east to work with and did a great job!!!

I have a 2010 Hyundai and my AC went out in the middle of the summer heat in Florida. He took 30min to diagnose the problem accurately, first checked the fuses and freeon level which would have been a simple fix. He then told me the compressor is out and needs to be replaced. I was expecting that to be the case given the age if the car and was worried I would have to pay more to get it fixed than my car is worth . However he was able to give me the option to pay for the compressor part without upcharge directly from his supplier and allowed me to buy the freeon needed at walmart down the road without upcharge - I have never seen this being offered to me at any carshop before.
Best part, the car’s AC was fixed the same day for much less than what I would have paid for elswhere! The labor price I paid for was very reasonable. Jim is a very honest person and car mechanic and I am back 1 week later to get more work done on my car (replacing a broken door handle).
Overall excellent customer service and best prices in the area! I highly recommend Ulmerton&Starkey automotive which is one of few remaining good old car mechanic shops that are getting harder to find in the area. Their quality of work for the price paid is exceptional
Jim is a total gem! My friends took me to have him check out an issue I had with my car, on the highway coming into town. Thankfully, it wasn't a major issue. Jim's attention to detail, professionalsim and assistance were greatly appreciated. Despite being extremely busy he took the time to quickly address the issue. I would highly recommend this business for your auto repair/ maintenance needs.
Jim and his team have been my lifesavers. They are reliable, knowledgeable and honest. They repaired my SUV after I was ripped off by another mechanic. Jim and his team were very detailed, and explained what was wrong with my SUV. They did an amazing job. I have not had any issues. My SUV is running even better than before. I want to say thanks to Mike & Jim. They worked on my car over the weekend just so I could I have it back for work on Monday. They both were very nice and honest. I have several things wrong with my car and I will definitely be going back to them for rest of my work needed. Yesterday, I took my GMC Savana 2500 Cargo Van to Ulmerton and Starkey Automotive to get an issue with the brakes and transmission repaired. They were professional, honest, friendly, very knowledgeable and reasonably priced at a fraction of the cost of dealerships and other mechanic shops. They went over and above to fix my van and got me back on the road the same day. I’m glad I finally found a mechanic shop I can trust. Thank you, Jim and Mike for your excellent service.
