Working on building a riser for our washer and dryer, walked to the lumber area and so glad Keith L was around. Thought we were going to be there for an hour to figure out exactly what we needed. Keith asked for the dimensions and type of wood and the man got us out of there within 20mins. Thanks Keith!

Bought my washer and dryer here with exceptional service. Was easy and comfortable to sit down and talk through all the options and prices with their appliance specialist. The delivery and installation was seamless and well done! All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely worthwhile to purchase appliances at Hills Flat and stay local to support Grass Valley!

Each time I’ve been to Hills Flat the customer service and friendliness of the staff has been exceptional. Today Keith L helped me gather supplies for a small project. He was extremely knowledgeable, fun, and easy to work with. I’ll be back!

I've had very positive experiences at Hills Flat Lumber. Whenever I walk in the door I know someone there will help me. All I have to do is ask and they are on it. One guy, I think named Chris, spent a lot of time with me going over the washer and dryers. That type of customer service made me want to buy from them. They did the propane conversion on my new dryer and their delivery guys were super nice, and they had everything else to install on hand and very fair prices. I've also purchased lumber from them and it is very high quality. All in all. This is my go to hardware store.

Yesterday I went to Hills Flat in Grass Valley, California. I went to the counter and asked the counter person, Bob Kind, to help me with some electrical questions. Bob did a great job in explaining my options and the reasons for each. Bob has a great knowledge of this subject and loves sharing it with his customers. I really appreciated his help, Johnny Johnson

Extremely rude and unprofessional employees working at the checkout counter. Will not be shopping here anymore, nor recommending anyone.

Well, I just posted a review and the name I cited was incorrect. Sigh..... Jaden O, not Jason O, was the associate that helped me purchase a gorgeous black Tupelo tree. The tree was not listed in inventory so he had t9 jump thru hoops and get everything corrected just so I could purchase it. He is kind, patient, knowledgeable and actually made me feel like I matter!!! So many times we go shopping, spending hard earned money and we don't get to experience appreciation for money spent. We can go where we want but I will choose to return to Hills Flat over other businesses because of Jaden.

Hills Flat Lumber Nursery is truly the best in Grass Valley—at least in my opinion! I’ve visited all the nurseries in town, and this one is by far top-notch. From fountains and planters to garden décor, they really carry the heart of a gardener. Julie, the manager, is the icing on the cake. She is patient, kind, and always takes the time to talk with customers about what plants thrive best in our zone. Her knowledge and passion for plants shine through, and it makes every visit enjoyable. Sometimes, I stop by just to take in the beauty of the nursery itself. The prices are on par with other local nurseries, but I especially love that they often have plants on sale. Thank you, Hills Flat Lumber Nursery, for giving us gardeners a little slice of paradise right here in Grass Valley. You truly keep our hearts inspired and our gardens flourishing.

I'm a local roofing contractor and come in here when I need quality lumber, tools, or odds and ends. Excellent service and I always get what I need. Love Hills Flat!

Hills Flat is great! Deli is one of the best in town/affordable and easier to get lumber/back yard supplies with ease. I'd just like more feet on the floor inside for the one-off items I'm looking for. Couple of great floor resources there but if I don't see them, I get the basics and move on.

Hills Flat has always been a place that I go expecting to help myself. Today I went knowing I needed assistance. I asked an employee for help with a very specific project and was dumbfounded as I was basically told to figure it out myself. I got “advice” from the employee that was so generic I could have gotten from google. The staff member simply couldn’t be bothered to walk out from behind the counter to assist. So I got in my car without a purchase and am heading to B&C. It’s unreal how bad customer service has gotten in this little “hometown”.

Last fall, I visited Hills Flat intending to purchase a gas-powered riding lawn mower. Instead of receiving guidance, I was laughed at by the staff in the back. I had not realized that gas-powered mowers had been phased out in California, and that was apparently hilarious to the employees working that day. I was prepared to spend $3,500 that day, but the interaction left such a negative impression that I chose not to return for several months. At the time, I considered leaving a review but decided, perhaps mistakenly, to let it go. Recently, while in the area, I gave the store another chance. I attempted to purchase supplies for my wife’s business using her company account. For years, I’ve been able to complete purchases simply by providing her phone number, and our company credit card. This time, I was abruptly told the transaction could not be attached to her account because I was not listed. While I respect the existence of policies, what struck me was the complete lack of flexibility, communication, or customer care, particularly given that this process has always been honored in the past. At that point, I returned everything to the shelves and went directly to B&C, where I’ve had a dependable account for decades, and where customer service has never been in question. Sadly, Hills Flat has not only lost two sales, but my long-term business. Checking other reviews, it looks like this is par for the course at Hills Flat. Super disappointing.

I went in to purchase some deer fencing. I couldn't find it, so went to the front where three employees were hanging out by the registers. They told me it was outside so I went outside and still could not find it. I went and asked the second time and they gave me better instructions but still, no one took the time to walk me out to show me where the item was. There was also no one working outside. Turns out, what they sold me is not effective against the deer in Alta Sierra, so I had to drive back and return the item, and order the proper fencing from Home Depot, since HFL does not carry it. I'd rather support a local company, so it was a disappointing experience all around. If a (potential)customer is going to take the time and effort to drive to a local store, and prepared to pay more than a box store, customer service needs to improve.

Just moved to the area, we live off the grid and head into town a couple times a month. We went to Hills Flat in GV the other day and was blown away to see a HF employee come outside, light up a cigarette and proceed to smoke it right in front of the main entrance and completely oblivious to us while we was browsing the nursery plants and pottery... the nursery was closed that day, so I was limited to only the pottery and plants out front. My wife is very sensitive to cigarette smoke and we didn't even make it inside to make our purchases. We went to a different hardware store in Brunswick and found everything we needed, including some plants and pottery my wife impulse purchased. It was the difference between night and day, that place was so helpful, we were in and out in less than 30min. Idk if this is considered normal up here but where we moved from this would never be acceptable. I could understand not being able to enforce the general public about not smoking in front of a main entrance but to see a company employee, in a uniform, smoking so close to a main entrance seems really unprofessional and we have no desire to go back and support a store that would allow their employees to this...

the nursery at the GV location has great prices on pottery and plants and the nursery stock is stocked with a huge variety of awesome and unique plants. I absolutely love shopping the nursery department. but I've been here going on over 2hrs and the poor cashier keeps getting interrupted and not able to finish my transactions. I was able to purchase my pottery and spent over $700 cash on the most amazing salt glazed, frostproof pottery... I've been using this style pottery for years and was so pleased when I found a local vender and now i don't have to go down the hill to pottery world, yay to that! but as Im being wrung up for my soil and plants, I've been awkwardly sitting around, watching my cashier getting pulled in 8 different directions with cash burning a hole in my pocket and having anxiety about how long I've been away from my jobsite. At this point I'm realizing I will be working until dark tonight because I had orginally shopped for an hour or so with my client and we made a massive pile of plants. but paying for the soil and planted needed for my jobsite and getting wrung up has taken so long at this point that I have literally written this whole entire GoogleReview while watching this poor cashier lady simtanisouly ring me up and help another 9 people and then some. with the exception of the nursery staff around here, this place has the WORST customer service I have ever, ever experienced, and I do all lot of shopping! it's hasn't always been like this, but recently the nursery seem to be run by a skeleton crew. and meanwhile...... the whole entire nursery is extremely dry and needs handwatering like an hour ago... the brand new shipment looks soooo sad.. ? ? ?

...it's so frustrating only being able to shop the Nursery Department when Julie is working, I believe she works Tuesday-Saturday... all I know is that it's Monday, I just walked the nursery, as did several other people, and we were not approached, or acknowledged for that matter, by anyone employee, at any point. One by one, we all just kinda walked on through, browsed, and kinda walked on out... ...it's worth mentioning that the outside sales shed was locked up, and when purchasing the amounts of plants I was hoping to purchase, it wouldn't be worth bringing them all to an indoor register. ...btw, Julie is the Nursery Manager & basically the backbone of the whole nursery department at the GV location, including the pottery if I am not mistaken.... ... & on that note: Julie does an absolute PLANTATSTIC job stocking the nursery, and her prices are honestly some the best in town! Julie is very responsive when I am seeking, often hard to find plants. Equally, Julie has introduced me to some very unique and, in some cases, not able to find agia type plants... ...for example, I don't know where she got it, but several years ago Julie brought in 'daphne lilac'. naturally, I purchased one, as I do with any new plant I find, and boy, do I wish I would have bought more! it is absolutely PLANTATSTIC right now in early April, and it has been for weeks! ... anyway, plantrant over... ...but seriously, despite all Julie's hard work and her lifetime of knowledge & experience she has, and does so generously share with anyone she can, this nursery is pathetic when Julie is not here.... and that's the whole problem with Hills Flat Nursery in GV... when Julie is not here, like in today's case, NoOne can or is even here to help you! really? ...Julie is literally the brains of this place, and when she is not here, this place is intolerable!!! ...& just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I have waited well past lunch time, watched even more people walk up to the closed nursery register, and leave as I am doing right now... it's been a long minute here, and nothing has changed... ...I guess I'm heading down the road to Kurt's Garden Nursery... Kurt is equally as talented as Julie, but has created a nursery with structure and, most importantly, is a team... ... I honestly don't even know how Julie does what she does with the shoe string of a support team that she barely has or is lacking all together.... Julie truly does know plants, and it's a pleasure to work with a fellow PlantNerd who shares the same passion as me... ... helping guide people in selecting the right plant for the right spot...

5 stars for Dawn, she's an absolute GEM & a genuinely good hearted Lady! Kelly however... treated my husband like common trash when we came in this past Sunday Evening around 4:30-5 pm . I went straight for the cleaning isles and he went to the mens wear.. off to the right as you walk in.. Not even 5 mintuts later i heard the comotion from Kelly and my husband .. She INSISTED HE bring HER HIS MERCHANDISE IMMEDIATELY (the Carhart Shirts he'd picked out from the men's section) Kelly then walked directly to him and ripped them out of his hands and proceeded to tell him "Its Store Policy for everyone to surrender their items until customers done shopping & are ready for check out." How absolutely absurd a statement and even more abhorrent was her actions and treatment towards my husband WHO IS LAW ENFORCEMENT!! It's not like he was dressed like a hobo or looked scruffy unkempt stepchild that no one loved.... Clean shaven hair slicked back 6ft 5" handsome irishman. This sort of treatment and behavior towards hard working blue collar folks WHOOOOO HAVE.... Over the decades SPENT TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN THAT STORE when we could have just as easily... Bought our supplies online for half the price... but we chose to support our locally owned small businesses. I really hope Management addresses this agreegeously disturbing display of humiliation towards hard working, decades loyal customers!

Hill Flat is the BEST place to buy appliances. Tim Lloyd was Fantastic, so helpful so knowledgeable on all the appliances! I love the appliances I bought. GE Cafe Double oven, induction Monogram cooktop and 2 GE dishwashers. All amazing. We had one small mishap and Tim fixed it RIGHT away. I also bought everything on sale and was not ready to put in the kitchen and needed it all to be delivered to storage. After kitchen was completed Hills Flat came back to my storage and brought it to the house at no charge with great service. Nevada County is so lucky to have such a great appliance center with EXCELLENT service! Thank you Hills Flat!

Hills Flat is an old fashion family hardware store. It doesn't always have everything, and isn't the fastest, but it sure is a cool place. There are tons of friendly staff. Curiosities are around inside and some neat non-mainstream brands. I plan to make many visits in the future.

I arrived in the rain and the shop was pretty slow, and I was excited for the Carhartt threads amply stocked with tons of choices. Unfortunately, the one size I needed was not available in all the styles I desired. No doubt it’s the mask-thing that’s happening that keeps the stocks low here and everywhere, and that’s OK. I do wish the woman I had asked help from was a bit more warm but the rain can do that. I asked another woman for the dressing room key, and she was just lovely and quick to help. I’ll be back I’m sure because this place has so much choice and the atmosphere is bright and welcoming, and there logo is cool, scha-wing. Maybe smiles be there too.
