I would never recommend this place. I had a horrible experience here. Dean called with a $2300 quote which I accepted only for him to call me a week later saying they had completed the work but that it’ll be $3000. They did some other work and added 30% onto the estimate without any communication. I would’ve declined the extra work and done the simpler things myself but dean himself decided to make the decision for me and expected me to pay for whatever they wanted to do. Please take your vehicle elsewhere.
I wanted to come here but when i tried to make an appointment the man on the phone just kept being sarcastic about the times i could come in. They aren't open on the weekends and they aren't open during lunch. They close at 5. You have to leave your car there. They don't have loaner cars. I just needed an oil change. But the guy kind of made fun of me for not wanting to spend the whole day at the shop waiting around or being able to drop the car off all day just for that. So i did end up going to jiffy lube but i have other things that i need to have done on the car. But the guy didn't seem interested in trying to make an appointment with me. I guess they don't need the business
I will say this about Dean’s Automotive. Know what you want done and they will do it well! They are honest and get right to it. I purchased a shuttle bus and took it to them! They took care of only what was needed, everything else checked out well. I can appreciate the way they do business.
I have also purchased a commercial passenger van from them. Here we are almost 5 years later and it still runs strong. They sell and do quality work!
When I say that Dean saved my a$$, I mean it. I ferried up from Cordova to ship my car with a company based in Anchorage- there were specific rules about shipping and one was that the tank had to be at or below 1/4 tank- I assumed that the drive from Whittier Ferry terminal to Anchorage would deplete the tank more than it did.. but it didn't.. so, here I am, with MULTIPLE plans hanging on the verge of this car being accepted for shipment today and literally stuck. The shipping company suggested Dean's and even though it was my error and he never once judged or made me feel inferior-- instead, just the opposite, he had all his members ready for me on my drive there, had the garage ready and kindly and patiently calmed me down while they emptied the tank.
If I wasn't moving to the Lower 48, I would be back for EVERYTHING I ever needed - do me a favor and support him for me. Thank you, Dean. I will never forget your kindness.
Needed a new starter on my truck. They took me in the same day and had me out before close. The guys here were easy to deal with and very knowledgeable. Considering the labour prices in Alaska they definitely have a better rate and I would say they do better work then places that cost substantially more per hour. If you need car repairs I would deal with Dean's.
The owner of this place didn't have any respect for his customers. Told them how they need smile while talking with him and have complete eye contact. We didn't show any signs of disrespect. What the hell kind of place tells their customers to act a certain way and if they don't the owner won't even help them. This place has absolutely terrible customer service. I would rate no stars if it were possible
Super great place. 32 ft RV, fit me in for tire replacement and alignment. One of the few places that can take large RV,'s. They allowed me to add an oil change and at a great price. Had me in and out in one day. Friendly and courteous staff. Highly recommend!
Thank you Dean and your mechanic Jesse for changing the starter on our RV. The starter was on borrowed time and Dean made sure we got on the road safe back to Alberta Canada.

We had a problem with one of the wheel studs on our 5th wheel RV that looked serious and possibly difficult to repair. I showed up at Dean's shop when they opened on Monday morning. Despite having a lot of work on the go they agreed to look into our problem. It turned out to be less serious than I thought and we were back on the road before lunchtime.

Another Auto Shop recommended me to Dean’s since they were so far booked out. I called and they were able to get me in the next morning. Very grateful for the quick turnaround. My car had been out of service for a week, but they were able to repair my power steering leak at a reasonable price. Called and asked about getting My car serviced, I'm a Woman who knows little about cars, the first Guy that answered the phone was Polite, then He transfered Me over to SERVICE "DEAN or Whatever His name was" asked Thinking He would help, Didn't let Me finish what I was trynna say, YELLED at Me over the Phone "WHAT DO YOU NEED CHANGED OR DONE!!!!!" He was SUPER RUDE Over the Phone like Literally, Luckily I didn't have My Husband here cause a Brother Would've SLEPT PERIOD, Talk to Your Wife or Cat like that but not Me UFA, K Bye
We brought our vehicle here for a tire rotation and they got grease all over the interior. When confronting the owner, he got hostile and refused to offer any sort of remedy. I would not recommend this business to anybody.
Dean works hard to provide a quality service and is in high demand. They guarantee their work. You may not be able to get same day service due to high demand but it is well worth the wait and his pricing is fair and competitive.
Incredibly nice conversation but abruptly denied business. Ultimately Dean turned down a simple oil change and transmission fluid/filter change on a 2016 GMC Truck based on what seemed like the course of two questions asked (oil and filter brand options) by the owner. This should be a simple step in selecting a business to perform work of any type for any customer: answer questions about the products and services offered. A real life concern was given when an example of transmission fluid was used that "did not agree" with the sub zero temperatures this vehicle will see in interior Alaska. Dean explained their first choice was Napa products, which is completely understandable and my top aftermarket choice as well (but had asked about genuine factory parts availability). Again, all pertinent questions that SHOULD be asked, and tolerated. He listened, but said, "Hey, I'm going to pass on your vehicle; have a nice day, bye" and hung up abruptly before I could as why. Why?
We took the vehicle in for gas fuel smell. We were told it needed a new gas tank. They kept the vehicle for 3 weeks Because they said the wrong fuel tank was sent. They replaced the tank and we still had a fuel smell. Then fuel was pouring out. Took the vehicle back and they say we must clipped the fuel line. 2 days later they called and said we have to replace all the fuel lines. Afterwards we asked if they even did a presure test the first time and they would not answer. They had the vehicle a total of 4 weeks and the first 3 weeks they never inspected the fuel lines and let us drive off with leaking fuel. After 4 weeks of nonsense they were rude and unapologetic. And could have kill my 4 children because the original leak was not even addressed.
Had a coolant leak on my Chevy Sonic. Brought it in to the shop in the morning, about an hour later I got a call from Dean. He was very nice, explained the problem and gave me a very reasonable estimate. In two hours my car was all ready to pick up and they charged me way less than the estimate! I’m very satisfied with the shop and will be bringing my vehicle back for any issues I might have! Thank you!
I brought my late 90's Chevrolet Astro to Dean for a much-needed tune-up, and also asked him to take a look at an issue I was having with the climate control system. The local GM dealer wanted a $500 deposit just to look at it, which was ridiculous, especially since I already had an idea of what was probably wrong. Dean listened to me explain the problem and told me his guys would try and fix it. The shop worked promptly and got me back on the road within a reasonable time, but the repair to the climate control system (there were some dry-rotted vacuum lines in the engine compartment) soon failed, because additional hoses needed replacement. Dean told me to bring the vehicle back and his guys replaced the additional hoses free of charge. Now, my vehicle runs like new. Dean's price for all the work was reasonable and comparable to what other local shops seem to charge. I would highly recommend this place, both for the quality of the work and the quality of the service. Thanks!
Wonderful automotive service! The owner actually talks to you as if you are an old friend which is a welcoming feeling. Dean and his crew managed to squeeze my car in the day I needed it. They're truly a blessing
I am thoroughly impressed. Over the past 40 years, I have taken my vehicles to various mechanics. My daughter mentioned Dean's to me. The quote was approximately $200.00 less than where I usually take my Subaru. The crew is very nice and friendly. They got my car in and out by lunchtime. My Subaru has a new home. Thank you
Dean is very good and funny guy, he will provide you with very good and professional service. My vehicle has some major issues and they got it fixed up like brand new and for the right price. They will take care of you and not rip you off like other shops around anchorage. Thanks a lot Dean!
Did good work on a previous job that was paid through insurance, however the owner refused service because we asked too many questions about how the process worked and what possible charges could be. Apparently it is unacceptable and too much of a hassle for people to ask questions to plan their budget and schedule. It's unfortunate that Dean is unwilling to work with people who simply try to understand his processes and is clearly looking to work only with people that have money to throw around without asking questions. He did apologize for his rudeness (he had been very rude in front of my child) but said we were too much of a hassle because he had to repeat himself.
Due to the customer service I wouldn't recommend Dean's Automotive unless the work is going through insurance and they will pay whatever he asks with no questions.
Dean, the owner, is behind the desk everyday backing up all the work done at his shop. This shop is always very honest and professional about what my car needs. They explain what needs to be done and They back up their work. I would highly recommend Deans Automotive. Thank you Dean for keeping my car in tip top shape!!
Mr. Dean used God's Holy Name in vain during our conversation with him, insulting God by breaking His 2nd Commandment. Our experience sucked. Two thumbs down. We will tell everyone how we got ripped off, cussed out, and insulted by Mr Dean, and suggest they find somewhere else to do their business. He refused to call us with an estimate, which he said he would, but did the work without our okay on the price. An oil change, radiator flush, heater core flush, and supposedly fixed the heater, cost an exorbitant $450.00. The heater WAS NOT fixed as he said. When we returned to tell him, the first words out of his mouth were an insult about our camper and then after I questioned him further he became irate and starts basically cussing me out, telling me to "Get the F*** out" several times. A rude, arrogant, cocky rip-off. We may seek damages in small claims court. We rate him him ZERO stars but this will not allow us to submit until we choose a star. Never Dean's again!
I'll always return to Deans Auto for service. It's exactly 2 hours 58 minutes from my location and worth the trip! Honest, reliable, fast service without the long list rhetoric that most places try to push on you. They will do exactly as requested and you don't have to worry when you leave the shop if the work was done properly or even at all, some shops are shady and greedy, absolutely not at Deans! I'll be driving up very soon for brand new snow tires, all four of em at wholesale price! I personally request Joseph W.A. Smith as the mechanic to do my work, he's ASE certified and knows his stuff! Friendly trustworthy service with a smile! He'll talk to you...not AT you. I highly recommend Deans Automotive for all you vehicle needs! I trust sending my daughters there and my daughter's are my treasures!
