Had an entire truck full of aluminum rims I brought from kasilof because they told me 51 cents per lb for aluminum rims. I have a scale at home for Weighing scrap, so before I make the long trip to anchorage I have a good idea of what I'm going to get paid. They did not let me see the weight on their scale which was odd to me, and they started grabbing my rims and weighing them while i was still unloading. I go inside to get my check and they listed my rims as a lower grade aluminum about 20-25 cents less per pound and underweighed me about 350 lbs from what I weighed on my scale at home. I also had a bucket of brass fittings that weighed about 25 lbs that didn't even show up on my receipt and they claimed to never have seen it. It was the first time I went there, and definitely the last. Very unprofessional and don't care about the customer. Instead of fixing the problem they argued with me about why they were right even tho it's not what they said on then phone when I called them before heading there. Shady operations and scummy tactics by the people who operate this joint. They butter you up and make it sound promising, and once they have your scrap, they kick you to the curb. Stay away from this place if your a metal scrapper
BEWARE THEY ARE CON ARTISTS!
I had some copper coils leftover from a job that were brand new in the box. Each box had 10 lbs of copper tubing in it. I had 2 boxes which was 20 lbs. There was also a few lbs of other #1 copper I threw in with it because they told me to throw it together. When I got my receipt it said 11 lbs of #1 copper. I said something to the guy in the office about it and I even said I have the box they came out of that says the weight on it. I tried to ask for my scrap back because they were dishonest about the weights and category. They said they couldn't do that it's already been processed. While I was gathering the rest of my scrap into totes, they took the copper tubing and weighed it without me being able to see the weight on the scale. They claim the totes they use to weigh are 15 lbs and they don't use an empty tote to tare the scale before Weighing your metals. The totes do not weigh 15 lbs. Maybe 7-8 at most.
I had 4 aluminum radiators with no steel on them and they were not magnetic. One of the radiators was out of an 18 wheeler and was heavy enough to noticeably affect the handling of my 3/4 ton chevy when it in the bed of my truck. It took myself and someone else to put it in my truck.
I had a lot of other high grade insulated wire and brass fittings to add to my total. I have wood racks on the side of my truck, and my 3/4 ton truck was buckling from the weight. The total weight of everything on the receipt they gave me was 113 lbs. I got a total of $85. Not only did they lie about the weight totals, but they categorized every type of metal i brought in as the lowest quality and price for each type. They are dishonest thieves who are taking advantage of the people who bring them business. They claim to offer the best scrap prices in anchorage, and it's true mostly, but that's how they lure in to rip you off. The fraud they perpetuate makes sure you will never get what you deserve.
My good friend had a similar experience with them recently as well, and he weighs everything on his own scale before he brings it in so he knows roughly the payout to expect. They took him for over 300 lbs.
They present themselves as professional, but the only thing they do professionally is decieve honest people out of their hard earned work and profits.
Don't believe you will get a bigger check at Westrock because they offer better prices. You won't. I would've brought all my scrap to the landfill and paid to get rid of it just to know I didn't give them the business they dont deserve, if I had known they were going to insult my time and humility like this. Don't waste your time go somewhere else. You've been warned.
Maybe it’s just the luck of the draw but the last few times I’ve gone to drop off some copper recycling they’ve either closed early or taken extended lunches.
Great facility and makes it easy for those to recycle. It was quite fun going to each specific bin for recyclables and disposing of my collected material! Great job Anchorage. I had been collecting recyclables since traveling from Valdez.
Quick service, in and out with check in hand. Pay a fair amount for the recyclable materials I brought in. I'm satisfied and will continue to use their services as a repeat customer.
It's either hit or miss sometimes you think you're going to make a lot of money and you don't and sometimes you think you're not going to make any money at all and you do, but they always are helpful and informative on what you should do and don't do good job guys! And Nicole
The staff is frequently extremely rude and the layout is terrible. There is also broken glass on the ground in areas where cars need to go. Unfortunately this is the only place in Anchorage to recycle plastic, so we're forced to go here.
Always amazes me how many folks actually do recycle. (And surprises me how MANY still DON'T -- for whatever reasons they lean on.)
This facility is fairly easy to access and to use, which essentially relies upon the courtesy and patience of the users, since it is quite a compact area and layout.
No frills, free, and they accept: cardboard, paper, newspaper, glass, bottles, aluminum products, tin/steel products, and plastics. Glad to have this place to not contribute all that to the landfill.
Place is great. Just show up and drop. Lots of containers for each type of recycling: Glass, newspaper, cardboard. Bring a cutter just in case your box won't fit into the container; it fits boxes up to a foot and a half without breaking down, anything bigger you'll need to cut down.
So many people throw out tons of trash that can be recycled: cardboard, glass, plastic containers, tin cans, aluminum cans, mixed paper and junk mail. PLEASE recycle people. Your trash level will greatly diminish. Anchorage Recycling on Rosewood just off of Dowling has it all mapped out for you. It will do your heart good, and will help to save our future planet Earth. It costs you nothing, and it is so easy. There is no excuse not to at least make an effort. Think about it!!!🔜🔜☮
If you plan to recycle in Anchorage then you'll be here at the WestRock Anchorage Recycling Center often. Located right behind the NAPA Auto Parts building are multiple bins for glass, cardboard, mixed paper, newspaper, tin, aluminum, plastic bags, and plastic containers. For more information on what you can recycle you'll want to read more on the WestRock Anchorage Recycling Center website. Try to park your vehicle close to the containers, but give yourself room to get out. Be aware here, because there is very little space to drive when both sides are full of parked vehicles.

I took a very large mix of copper, brass and aluminum to be recycled. The yard manager was extremely helpful and taught me a lot of tips for the next time I bring in a load. I.E. remove handles from boiler drains, make sure brass and steel are taken off of copper it's soldered onto, etc. I gained a lot of knowledge from this trip. The office staff were kind and helpful as well. Their prices were fair and competitive. I will absolutely return here again and I highly recommend them if you are looking for commerical recycling.
Very pleasant employee's that are very knowlegable, as the metals are what I'm in to recycling! The gentleman outside that does the intake & weighing of my coppers, aluminium & brass was very eager to explain the differences in my grades of coppers when I first started the recycling program. Hats off to all who make this possible. Thank you guys and gals!
Keep up the awesomeness 👍👍
over the top customer service. the two guys in the yard, Lance and David, were considerate and went out of their way to support us as new customers. definitely will send everyone we know here.
This is a class act operation. Matt and Lance at the recycling center make it fun for my kids every time they show up. It's possible that you wouldn't more than a neutral to negative response from personnel at a recycling yard but these guys are the opposite of that stereotype. They remember their customers immediately and treat each one as valuable. If you want to teach your employees what good service looks like, send them to the recycling center. I see this business continuing to grow if not solely for the customer service they show each time.
Thanks Westrock.
Can't say enough about Lance and the gang at WestRock. Their "Can Do Kids" program has been so awesome for my 11yr old kiddo. They pay a higher recycling rate for cans to kids and each delivery enters them for a monthly drawing. Last month he won a 5 man tent and sleeping donated by Tote International.
Business support this program.
Parents help your kids take advantage of it.
Great fun for Dad n son to watch his hard work pay off.
Thanks WestRock!
West Rock recycling center on dowling and rosewood is the best place in town to recycle scrap metals. I took in copper and aluminum which are just a couple of the things they take in. The customer service in the scrap yard was excellent. I would definitely refer the public there to recycle. Thank you guys for keeping the earth clean.
