I have been coming to American Pride for about 2 years. They take really good care of my car. I got a State Inspection and the Guys up front were very accommodating and friendly. I recommend this place to anyone in the Hampton Roads area.

Your front office staff is top-tier. They made me laugh. They answered my questions in a way that wasn’t patronizing. They were supportive of my decision. The mechanic I did not get to meet but I appreciated the thorough look through on not only my issue that brought me in, but just an overall once over of the car. I love the feminine hygiene products in the restroom. I love the free coffee in the waiting room and I didn’t have to utilize it, but I also love the Uber service.

I took my car in for a state inspection, oil change and tire rotation. The process was seamless- the services were completed in just over an hour. I will take my vehicles back to America Pride for service.

I stopped there on Thursday to make an appointment, they said they could take me then but I was not available to stay then so we made the appointment for the next morning. I went there Friday and they were so very nice, waiting room was clean and spacious. The gentleman working or attentive while I was speaking to them. They gave me a report card of anything that they saw that needed work and they also told me that they donate $5 of the inspection fee to a charity and I saw pictures of people receiving checks in a frame on their wall. I will definitely be returning for my future inspections.

I visited American Pride Automotive for a 2:00 PM state inspection appointment. At around 4:15 While I was waiting, a black lady walked in with her two daughters. As soon as she stepped out of the lobby, one of the employees at the front desk made a comment to a coworker sitting next to him, saying, “Oh my God I hate seeing black people.” At that moment, they realized I was still in the waiting room and could clearly see and hear what he said. When he realized I was there, he appeared visibly shocked and immediately walked away without addressing me since I’m also a black male .The interaction felt extremely uncomfortable, unprofessional, and offensive. As a customer, I expect to be treated with respect and professionalism at all times. Remarks like this are unacceptable and reflect poorly on the business. I hope this feedback encourages better staff training, accountability, and a more welcoming environment for all customers.

I’m really late on writing this review. I’d like to say I am extremely grateful and appreciative for American Pride Automotive and this location specifically. I bought a 2007 corvette and it had some electrical issues and some automotive things that needed to be fixed. As well as it needed a state inspection. They completely diagnosed every issue down to the T and they explained every repair that needed to be done with a descriptive sales breakdown. They were extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful. They fixed every issue they found with the car with my approval, they got it inspected and ready for registration and more importantly they brought it back to life and got it back on the road. Also they installed my aftermarket exhaust for me and did it with great precision. I have been thanking them everyday i drive the car and I will never take the car or my other cars anywhere else. Matt the sales rep who answered my call; kept me informed, and aware of all of my options. I sincerely thank everyone who works there, and who took care of my vehicle. If you want quality work and quality timing on your vehicle, I recommend American Pride Automotive!

Had my state inspection done here. They had next day appointments for 2 vehicles, were incredibly honest, and transparent about cost. They even cleaned the steering wheel after driving my car!

Took my vehicle here for a second opinion after taking to have an inspection done at Firestone. Gianni and his team were honest and pleasant to work with. I will definitely continue to bring my vehicles here and support a local business.

All I needed was a state inspection. Within 45 minutes of entering the establishment my car was being inspected. I was greeted with professionalism and offered drinks and snacks. Didn't take them long at all to do my inspection. Totally enjoyed my experience and will come back and recommend my friends and family to come here as well.

Honestly, I was hardcore freaking out because I was behind on my state inspection. I kept trying to go to another place and struggled to get seen in a time slot that fit my schedule, so I went here because my partner had recommended it and it’s actually close to where she works. Staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and upfront about any repairs associated with my inspection. They were also willing to work around my schedule to repair any infractions. (Thank you Matt (I believe was his name) for answering all my calls🤣) They send a really cool report that breaks down everything that needs fixing and why which is very transparent. I haven’t seen a report exactly like this anywhere else in the area. They include pictures in that report so you can see with your own eyes what they are referring to, where it is located, and why it’s a concern. As someone who is autistic and often nervous in new environments, this put me right at ease. I did not feel talked or swayed into any unnecessary repairs and when I had questions they answered clearly! Thanks to these guys I found out a serpentine belt that was recently replaced is fraying wayyyy too early as well! So they may be helping me save more money in the future. Cannot say enough how awesome these dudes are, I’m certainly coming back.

Complaints about American Pride Automotive include accusations of dishonesty, overcharging, and fabricating repair needs. Some customers report being told their vehicles needed expensive repairs that were not actually necessary, with a second opinion proving the issues were nonexistent or exaggerated. Other complaints mention poor customer service and communication issues. Common complaints Dishonest repair recommendations: Multiple reviews suggest the company recommends unnecessary repairs to inflate the bill. This can include claiming a vehicle won't pass inspection due to a minor issue that is quickly resolved after the customer pays for the unnecessary repair, or finding "problems" that don't exist, notes Yelp. High costs: Customers report being quoted large sums for repairs that are later confirmed to be unnecessary or can be done elsewhere for a fraction of the cost, such as a $1400 quote for a problem that another shop found to be a simple $100 fix, says Yelp. Poor customer service: Some customers report feeling that the staff is condescending or that there are communication problems, with one review calling it "the worst customer service I've ever experienced". What to do if you have a complaint Contact the manager: First, try to resolve the issue directly with the shop's management by first explaining the problem verbally, and then following up with a formal written complaint. Request a response within 14 days, advises The Motor Ombudsman. File a formal complaint: If the shop is unresponsive, you can file a formal complaint with your state's Attorney General or the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Document everything: Keep records of all estimates, invoices, and repair orders. Take photos or videos of any work that was performed or any damage you find in your vehicle. Seek legal advice: If the issue involves significant financial loss or a violation of consumer protection laws, you may wish to consult with a lawyer.

They were very professional and courteous. I believe this was my second vehicle appointment with American Pride Automotive. Both of the gentlemen were very easy to talk to. They understood my concerns with my vehicle and laid out the course of action to repair my vehicle. I didn't live too far from the shop, but they have uber services--free of charge-- that will take you to your place of residence if the vehicle has to stay at the garage. Upon completion of the vehicle service they contacted me to inform me the uber driver was enroute to my home to bring me back to the shop. The waiting area was clean...and they have coffee! Their prices were reasonable. I highly recommend American Pride Automotive!

My last name is Peterson in your system. Failing the inspection wasn’t the issue here. The issue was your business trying to charge 1,600 just to pass an inspection. Instead of paying, we did the work ourselves. Come to find out there is nothing wrong with front wheel bearing. We spent $250 to fix this issue and it wasn’t even an issue to begin with. We brought it back before 15 days were up, and expressed how this part wasn’t an issue and shouldn’t have been. They provided a video of said part making “excessive noise” and “movement” before hand and i immediately saw there was nothing wrong with it. Both front desk and our friends (mechanics) who saw the video said there was nothing in the video and confused as well. All I got was a sorry for this mistake of their inspectors and then back to their computers. I saw in previous reviews after the inspection that they like to do this sort of thing. This was the second vehicle I brought in. The first time it was ok, fixed an issue on my behalf before driving there and brought it back to be re-inspected. Sorry isn’t going to take back $250 but we will not be returning to this business. Also, I do not see my first review. I did see a response but cannot respond back or even find it publicly.

Brought in for state inspection, vehicle failed due to two lights being out. Was charged for $111 to replace said bulbs. They have had the car for the past week and still have not fixed the two lights that are keeping it from passing the inspection.

as someone who’s not very well versed on cars, this is the perfect place to go as the staff are extremely patient & happy to explain anything you may be confused about! when i visited, Gianni & Matt provided great service & walked me through everything very thoroughly as it pertained to my car. i plan on returning for any future services, 10/10!

Will definitely be returning for regular maintenance and any issues going forward!

One of my neighbors recommended this shop to me and I was not disappointed. When I arrived, I was greeted by Gianni and Matt, both of whom were friendly and informative about what I should expect. The mechanics provided quick and detailed attention to the work I requested, and they were able to complete the work ahead of schedule. I plan on using their services if and when I need a mechanic in the future. American Pride is definitely worth looking into if you need work done on your vehicle.

I recently had a headlight installed on my Tesla at American Pride Automotive, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Gianni, the service director, was professional and knowledgeable, ensuring everything was handled quickly and efficiently. The service was fast, cost-effective, and done right the first time. I’m very pleased with the results and will definitely continue doing business with them. Highly recommend!

Honestly I DREAD bringing my car in for anything especially an inspection. I also normally don’t write reviews. BUT I can honestly say this is probably the best shop I have ever come too. Probably will never take it anywhere else. They were so friendly Matt at the front was the sweetest, told me everything recommended but never pressured me to do more than I could. They put air in my tires without me asking which was so sweet to get into because the colder weather they were a little low. Truly a place for the people rather than big shops who only care about money.

I called American Pride Automotive to perform a diagnostic on my son's car. The diagnostic was performed w/great detail. Pictures were taken & quotes were given for the necessary & recommended repairs. What really stood out to me was the courtesy & professionalism of Matt & the team at American Pride Automotive. Matt took his time explaining the recommendations of the quote. I truly appreciate the transparency & integrity of American Pride Automotive. I would definitely recommend American Pride Automotive to anyone looking for a honest Automotive shop.

Excellent service, very friendly staff, and very supportive of the military. I had to have my vehicle towed in because the shifter went out. They checked me in over the phone so I didn't have to go to the shop with the wrecker. They kept me informed, at least twice a day to let me know the status/ progress of the repair. The work was completed in two days, including locating the replacement part. They honestly worked to save me money for the repair. The facility was also very clean and neat. I will be taking my vehicle there for other routine maintenance.

Mechanics here are amazing. hands down, the most honest, reliable, thorough and caring auto repair shop that I have ever used at Newport News area. Price is very reasonable, they are not pushing you to repair anything unless its very necessary. Going forward they will be my first choice for any car repair issues, hopefully they earn others business as well.

Shop recommended by another electronics company I trust to get 360 degree cameras working. Doing some research, I knew corroded connectors could be a problem, and also found that my issues were more than likely caused by the IPMB module, because it didn’t make sense that 2 cameras would go bad at the same time. I stated these things when I took my truck in; yet someone wrote that I stated it could be a fuse. I never mentioned “fuse”. I knew the diagnosis of wiring was going to take time, so there was no time or amount it would cost that was initially discussed - only that I said I couldn’t write a blank check, and they did keep in touch along the way. After 2 full days of diagnosing wiring, they brought the expert in. Yes, I felt that should’ve happened a little sooner – like maybe after the first day. Problem found (IPMB module) and part ordered. Was going to take 4 days to arrive. The part was quoted to me, in my first conversation with the service writer as being $1200. In the meantime, I researched the part and found one online from a Ford dealer for $860 and change. In a second discussion with another service person, I was told the part was actually $1600! Yes it came with a 3 year warranty, but the original part didn’t last but 3 or 4 years. Though I asked about a price adjustment, no change was made to the price. As a matter of fact, I was told that if I bought the part from Ford and it came in a Ford box with bright blue Ford lights on it, they would not warrant the part. I picked up the truck while waiting for the part due to not wanting to be without a vehicle for 4 days. The shop had already ordered the part, so there was no going back at that point. When I returned the truck to the shop for part installation, we went over the service and costs. I was guaranteed there would be no additional charges. After another 2 days, I received a call letting me know they had to “sub the work out to another shop” to get the 360 degree cameras calibrated. The service writer let me know they were going to eat the cost of between $500 to $800 to have the work done. Honestly, I sort of felt it was karma for a 100% markup of the part, and I felt bad thinking that; but I’m pretty sure they’re glad they had marked it up after having to sub the work out. At the end of the third day, I finally got my truck back. It was a total of 6 days I was without a vehicle. So far, so good – I have working cameras. This is a tough review for me. The people are nice. The shop is clean. They communicated with me frequently. They provided rides to and from my home to the shop. They took pictures of things that will need my attention. They even have a decent financing plan available. But for, perhaps, not “calling in the experts” a little sooner, taking 2 days to identify they couldn’t complete the work and the 100% markup on the part (and in this case, the 100% markup was $800), I’d take my truck back to them in an instant. I’d much rather have saved $800 and gone with a standard 1 year part warranty than pay for a warranty that will probably last a shorter time than the part. Unfortunately, if I wanted them to do any further work, I trust their mechanics, but am too afraid of being way overcharged for the parts.

American Pride has been my go-to place of car service for years, so I was thrilled when they opened their newest location right by our house. I went in recently for a quote on brakes, and was even more thrilled to see a former colleague Gianni is now the Service Director at this location. Gianni's standard for quality is only going to make an already great location even better. This team is always super helpful and friendly; I appreciate their transparency when assessing the issue.

I couldn't be more grateful for the warm and welcoming service I received here. From the moment I walked in, everyone was incredibly kind and made me feel genuinely cared for. They kept me informed every step of the way, which was comforting. I had my state inspection, along with my brakes and rotors taken care of, and they also addressed everything that needed updating based on the inspection. The pricing was clear and straightforward once they completed the diagnostics, which I really appreciated. I'm definitely planning to return for any future work on my car. For my first visit, the experience was truly wonderful. They even managed to fit me in on the same day, which was so impressive and convenient. What touched me the most was when I returned to pick up my car. The staff recognized me and greeted me by name, saying, “Ms. Brown, hi!” That personal touch made me feel valued and respected, rather than just another customer. It was an experience that truly stood out to me.
