Island Woods Auto is the definition of honest, hard‑working, salt‑of‑the‑earth people. A year ago I had a front‑end collision, and another mechanic quoted me $1,800 and told me the car wasn’t drivable. A friend told me to try Island Woods because they were honest, so I called. Mike, the owner, told me to bring it in anytime.
I showed up at the end of the day while they were closing, and they still took the time to look at it. Mike crawled under the car, showed me exactly what was wrong, what needed to be fixed right away, and what could wait, as I was on a budget. He repaired it for $800 — saving me a thousand dollars.
A couple days later I had a loud noise. I showed up ten minutes before closing expecting to drop it off. Instead, Mike came out, greeted me like family, crawled under the car, and fixed the issue by hand in ten minutes. When I tried to pay, he refused. “I can’t charge you for something like that, all I did was reset the wheel well liner," he said!
Since then, my whole family has used Island Woods. The work is five‑star, the service is five‑star, and the people are five‑star. They’re fast, fair, and honest — no games, no long waits, no nonsense.
The best example of who they are: my grandparents were quoted $2,300 by a dealership for a repair. I told them to get a second opinion at Island Woods. Mike and the guys diagnosed the problem and fixed it in the time it took me to drive from Woonsocket to Smithfield. When my grandfather tried to pay, Mike refused again — stating "it took them 15 minutes and they had the part on hand." My grandfather, a tough, stoic man, was genuinely moved by their kindness.

I brought my Volkswagen Tiguan to Mr. Gurney at Island Woods Auto with the impression that I had severe engine damage, and may likely have to sell it to a salvage yard.
After extensively researching the issue, he was able to diagnose the source of the problem, receive the necessary part, and install it, in time for me to be able to pick up the vehicle that same day before he closed.
Now it runs better than it did before it broke down in the first place.

I recently brought my 1989 Toyota Camry AllTrac LE to this shop by a recommendation from a friend, they worked with me every step of the way making sure I was well informed with everything that was going on with my car. When I had an issue with my car after bringing it to them the first time (issue was not caused by any of the work they had done) they were quick to diagnose the issue and were able to fix it and get it back on the road for me. Very fair on pricing as well, will definitely return for any work I need in the future.

I work just around the corner from Island Woods at Bryant University and use them regularly. From brakes to oil changes, I have found Brian to be fair and honest. Most times they drop me off at the school and I just have to walk over at the end of the day to pick up my car.
